Recommended Weight Distribution System For 8K Travel Trailer Behind 2012 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I am interested in a WD hitch for towing an 8000 Pound travel trailer with a 2012 Toyota Tundra. Can you tell me why item #C17063 is so much less expensive than the others and if that would be recommended for my application?

When selecting a weight distribution system you want to know the total tongue weight. That is the tongue weight of your fully loaded ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo placed behind the rear axle of your towing vehicle. Choosing a system rated too high will result in a stiff uncomfortable ride and a system that is not big enough would be useless.
For an 8,000-lb trailer the tongue weight can range from 800 to 1,200-lbs. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System, part # C17063 you asked about is rated for total tongue weight between 1,000 and 1,400-lbs. It is also a round bar system that can pose problems with ground clearance for some vehicles that sit lower, which is probably not the case with your Tundra. This system comes with a friction sway control system. A 2-5/16 inch hitch ball is included but if you need a 2-inch ball I recommend part # A-90.
I recommend a weight distribution system like the Steadi-Flex, part # RP66561. This system uses trunnion bars that provide more ground clearance and also has a built-in sway control system that frankly performs better than the add-on sway control arm included with the # C17063. The # RP66561 has a tongue weight capacity between 700 and 1,400-lbs. The hitch ball is not included. If you need a 2-inch ball I recommend part # A-90, and for a 2-5/16 inch ball I recommend part # 19286.
If you find that your total tongue weight is more or less than the range for this system let me know and I will be glad to make some recommendations that will work for you.
