Gaining Clearance Towing Fifth Wheel Trailer with 1116 Lippert Kingpin and 2013 Ford F-250 Short Bed

Question:

My 5th wheel has a Lippert 1116 pin box. I have a Ford F 250 short bed pickup. According to specs, the 1621 is a long pin box, which would give me about 3 1/4 inch more clearance from the truck cab. I would like top know if the 1621 will bolt into the 1116 supports on the 5th wheel.

The Lippert 1621 Fifth Wheel Pin Box # LC1191151 is considered a long pin box however the bolt holes are not going to line up the same as your Lippert 1116. The 1621 that we carry is a direct replacement to be used on trailers that were originally manufactured with a 1621. It's not intended to be used to add length on a trailer that has a shorter pin box.

One option to gain clearance is to use a sliding hitch, like the Reese # RP30928 with rail adapter # RP30156. Or if you already have a stationary hitch, you may be able to purchase the sliding base and use your existing head.

Another option, if you have a stationary hitch, is to replace your pin box with a Sidewinder. For your Lippert 1116 you'll need the Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pin # RP61412. This will give you an extra 22 inches of turning clearance.
