Why Would Hopkins Insight Brake Controller Not Apply Brakes with Pedal at a Stop

I installed a Hopkins insight brake controller in my 2015 Ram Big Horn. After connecting the cable from the camper to the connector on the hitch, adjusting the brake setting and the sensitivity settings - pressing the brake pedal, the reading on the display will go to what it is set at, and then go to 0. Then it doesnt work with the pedal at all. It will work with the manual controller on the insight brake controller. The camper is a 2008 Wildwood. I used the Dodge Plug-in Simple brake control connector, part number 53056, to connect to the existing connector. Is this normal?

Expert Reply:

The Hopkins Insight is a proportional controller. It has to sense deceleration before it really starts to apply braking power. What you described is totally normal. Try taking the trailer around the block and it should work like normal.
