hey Im tom. I have a 1997 beaver Monterey . Cat diesel, air over juice brakes. Can I install an electronic brake controller without interfering with the brake system?

Yes you can install an electric brake controller on your vehicle. As long as there is a stop light circuit that you can tap into (there will be) then you can install a brake controller on basically any vehicle. For vehicles like yours this is a very common solution for towing a trailer with electric brakes. Typically controllers that adapt your brake style to electric brakes are pretty expensive and no more effective than a good proportional controller like the P3 part # 90195 that you referenced.

The biggest part of the install will be finding the stoplight circuit. If you use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 you will be able to test the wires going to the brake pedal to find the one that carries voltage only when the brakes are applied. This will run to the red wire of the controller. White is for ground, black is for 12 volt power, and blue runs back to your trailer connector.

I attached a help article on installing brake controllers from scratch for you to check out as well.
