Question:

Do I need to order a specific hitch for an 06 Dodge long bed? If I dont, why do competing brands provide specific units for specific truck brands and models? Thanks.

Yes, each model hitch is designed to fit a certain vehicle make, model, year, and trim. Some hitches will work on a certain make of vehicle for various years, others may only work for a certain make and model for a specific year. The hitches are tested on vehicles for fitment and compatibility and are designed specifically for different brand vehicles.

Each brand has their own unit that they design, and can vary slightly from the competitors model.

If you have the long bed, 1500 series 2006 Dodge Ram, then the Draw-Tite Gooseneck, part # 9464-38, will fit your vehicle. This hitch is mounted under the bed, like the Reese Hide-A-Goose, part # 9460.

If you have the long bed, 2500 or 3500 series 2006 Dodge Ram, then the Draw-Tite Gooseneck, part # 9464-35, will fit your vehicle. This is a below the bed hitch, but designed for the 2500 and 3500 series long bed Dodge Ram.
