Troubleshooting Short-Circuit Code on Hayes Genesis Trailer Brake Controller HA81790

On my 3rd Genesis , promt replacement, but rather have one that works always. After a few moths it starts sending SC short circuit signal. Is this a ongoing problem with this controller?

If three identical Hayes Genesis # HA81790 brake controllers have had the same issue with displaying the short-circuit (SC) code after a few months of operation, then I would consider carefully inspecting the trailer and vehicle connectors for signs of corrosion, trapped dirt or moisture that could be causing a short. Corrosion in a connector can cause two circuits to become bridged together; this could easily cause the SC error code.

You can also make sure the brake circuit wire has no damage to its insulation; check especially in areas where that wire has to make sharp bends and where it may come into contact with the trailer's frame. Replace or repair any damaged wire as needed.

We have no history of any ongoing issues with this controller.
