Recommendation for Measuring Tongue Weight of Borrowed Trailers

Question:

I am looking at purchasing either Pro Series Trailer Jack - PS1400300303. I am getting this to adapt to use temporarily on UHaul 6X12 and 5X8 trailers for a number of hauls over the next several month. I am using this as a way to use 5780 - Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale - 2,000-lb Capacity. Is there another relative inexpensive portable solution to easily and quickly measure tongue wt on a loaded uhaul trailer? Is there a way to use the Sherline Tongue Wt Scale on a Uhaul without temporarily attaching a trailer jack. I am in my 60s and dont want to heft a loaded trailer on and off the ball to do weights. Thank you for your help.

I would think the trailers you are planning on towing will already have trailer jacks on them, but if they do not, the Pro Series Round, Snap-Ring Swivel Jack # PS1400300303 that you referenced is a great option. This jack will bolt around trailer frames up to 3 inches x 4 inches. The # PS1400300303 jack will be able to be installed and uninstalled as you need it.

This jack has a footplate that will work well to place the jack on the Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale # 5780. Using a trailer jack will be an easy way to measure tongue weight with the Sherline scale.

I have attached review videos for both of these parts for you.

Another easy way to judge your trailer's tongue weight is a Weigh Safe Ball Mount, like # WS4-2. These ball mounts have a built-in tongue weight scale that will automatically provide you with a measurement every time you couple the trailer. This ball mount is also adjustable, offering a maximum 4 inch drop or maximum 5 inch rise. Two different ball mounts are included in this ball mount kit. I have attached a review video of Weigh Save Ball Mounts for you.

I also attached a help article on measuring trailer tongue weight.
