Determining if Rear Hatch Will Open Fully for 2015 XV Crosstrek with Yakima SkyBox 21 Installed

In your review you mention that the Thule 626 XXL is one of the top picks for the 2015 Crosstrek. It has a minimum front clearance of 58 1/8inch where the Yakima Skybox 21 has a front clearance of 57. When measuring on my Crosstrek it doesnt seem that either will allow the hatch to fully open. My assumption since you have the Thule 626 XXL as a top pick for the Crosstrek is that it will allow the hatch to open and thus the Yakima Skybox 21 should allow the hatch to fully open as well. Can you confirm the Skybox 21 will allow the hatch to fully open?

Measuring the crossbar to rear hatch clearance is the best way to determine if a cargo box will allow you to fully open the rear hatch of your vehicle. If the center of the front crossbar to the nearest point of your Crosstrek's open hatch doesn't measure at least 57 inches, the Yakima SkyBox 21 # Y07337 will interfere with the hatch opening fully. It sounds like when your measured the clearance on your 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek, you found the clearance measurement to be less than 57 inches, indicating the hatch will not fully open when the SkyBox 21 is installed.

If your Crosstrek has adjustable crossbars, you will want to move the front crossbar as far forward as possible before measuring.

When we test fit the Thule Force XXL # TH626 on a 2014 XV Crosstrek, the front crossbar of the Thule AeroBlade Roof Rack # THARB53, # TH450R is all the way forward on the raised side rail. With the crossbar as far forward as possible, the rear hatch was able to fully open. I have attached this test fit video for you.

If you have an aftermarket roof rack that is fit to factory raised side rails, based on the Force XXL test fit, the SkyBox 21 will allow the rear hatch of the Crosstrek to open as long as the front crossbar is all the way forward. However, if your Crosstrek has a factory or aftermarket roof rack that cannot be adjusted, based on your measuring, the SkyBox 21 will interfere with the Crosstrek's rear hatch fully opening.

Our "Most Popular Roof Cargo Carrier for 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek" product list is determined by the products our customers with Crosstreks purchase. This is not a list we put together based on fit, but is based on our customer's choices for their vehicle. Some customers are not concerned with opening the rear hatch fully, but want the largest cargo box available.

If you would like to let me know what you found the hatch clearance to be on your XV Crosstrek, I will be happy to make a cargo box recommendation for you that will allow you to fully open your vehicle's rear hatch.
