In order to tow a gooseneck trailer I recommend using a gooseneck trailer hitch in your 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab short bed. The use of a 5th wheel hitch and then an adapter is not as secure as using a gooseneck hitch directly. The ride quality will be better.

If the trailer is the typical gooseneck design with the wedge or V-shape at the front then the short bed will likely not be a problem. But there are ways to get additional clearance if needed.

First, you will need a gooseneck hitch. A popular option that I recommend is the Hide-A-Goose # 9464-35. This is the hitch and the installation kit for you truck. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you.

For additional clearance there are a couple of things you can do. First, you could add offset ball # 19308. This will move the pivot point of the trailer have 5 inches. If 5 inches is not enough additional clearance then I recommend using the regular ball that comes with the hitch and then using an offset coupler such as # BWTEXA4200 which provides 10 inches of offset. I have included a link to a video review of this coupler as well.
