Why Store the Trailer Wiring of a 2016 Subaru Forester on the Inside of It
Updated 12/15/2015 | Published 12/14/2015 >
Question:
Im surprised that no one else has asked this question. All the wiring harnesses you sell for the Forester have a long pigtail that you stick out the lift gate when you want to use the hitch. That seems incredibly hokey to me. All other vehicles I have owned with a hitch had a way to mount the electrical connector underneath the vehicle so it was a permanent installation. Isnt there a way to get the connector to the underneath of the vehicle where it could be mounted permanently?

We actually do get this question pretty regularly. Honestly it's better to store the trailer wiring on the interior of the vehicle when possible as it prevents corrosion from forming on the connector due to the elements and prevents the chance of damage from flying debris to either the wire or the connector itself.
The Curt harness part # C56040 has been confirmed as a fit for your 2016 Subaru Forester though. I attached an install video.
