Exhaust Will Not Lower on 2009 Subaru Forester to Install Curt Trailer Hitch

I tried to install: 2009 Subaru Forester Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2 Curt Trailer Hitch however the muffler would not drop down out of the way. I even removed the support strap at the Y connection and found the 3rd muffler support rubber boot just past the Y connection. Next I followed the muffler close to the transmission, to where I found one screw holding another bracket. Undoing that screw left the muffler hooked onto J bracket. All with no luck of dropping the muffler out of the way to slip the Hitch into place. Everything up to that point went great, but it does take more than 40 minutes to install. Any ideas on what to do? Sorry no photos taken because the frustration level was way too high. Hopefull

So even after releasing the exhaust from all those mounts it still stayed in place? It must really be unwilling to move? Have you tried a gentle pull downward on the rear of the exhaust system? It could be bound up at a pipe connection somewhere and just needs a little persuasion. Also, make sure that you are releasing the exhaust from the hangers on both the passenger's and driver's side. There should just be 3 that you have to release it from.

It did go pretty smooth when we installed Curt trailer hitch 13147 on a 2009 Subaru Forester, video linked, so I would take a look at the video to see if there is something different between our process or the vehicle and your process/vehicle. If we can pin point any difference that may lead us to the issue.
