There are basically 6 steps to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36407, on your 2007 Chevy Impala. First, the exhaust must be lowered. Next, install the carriage bolts and blocks through access holes in the vehicle frame on both sides. Then, install carriage bolts and blocks through access holes in the vehicle cross member.
Next is to raise the hitch into position and use the washers and nuts to secure the hitch. Then, tighten the nuts to the torque rating specified in the instructions (linked below). Last, re-hang the exhaust.
The instructions provide a little more detail and images that show where the access holes and mounting points are. With the right tools and possibly an assistant I am confident that not only your husband could install this hitch, but you could do it yourself! I have also included a video installation on a similar vehicle.
The recommended drawbar for this hitch is # 36061, and it must be used in the rise position only. I also recommend Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # e98879 to deter theft. You can use hitch ball # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter) depending on your towing needs. The recommended trailer wiring is T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118417. I have included a link to the installation details and an installation video below.
