Recommended Trailer And Bike Racks For 100 Lb Recumbent Electric Bike And Three Additional Bikes

Question:

I have 2014 Toyota Sienna and just has a 2inch class III hitch installed with a 350lbs max tongue weight. I have an Aerobic Crusier, which is a recumbent electric bike with a lithium iron phosphate battery and weighs ~100 lbs. The wheel base center to center is 68inch and the rear tire is 2.75inch wide. Specs are here: http://electricbikereview.com/aerobic-cruiser/innovation/ Im looking for a rack to carry that bike without removing the battery a pain, 2 adult bikes, and 1 childs bike. I know - I want it all : I have looked at the Hollywood HR1450R and the 2 bike add-on HR1475, the Rage Powersports BC-08581-2A+2EXT, the Swagman XTC-4, and even some racks from Lets Go Aero. Obviously, weight limit is my concern. If put the cruiser closest to the van, would I be OK? I wouldnt think the other 3 bikes would total even 100 lbs. So the bikes would total ~200 lbs plus the weight of the rack itself. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

We may have a solution for you, but we do not offer any bike carriers that can handle the weight of the bikes you said you need to carry.

I recommend a Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08107. This trailer can accommodate the bikes you mentioned with no problem and keep your Sienna rear cargo area available. This trailer has a weight capacity of 250 lbs, and the crossbars can be adjusted from a 4 inch to 48 inch spread.

The bike rack I recommend for the recumbent bike is the Thule Tandem Roof Mounted Bike Rack, part # TH558P. This bike rack is designed for recumbent bikes and holds the bike securely with the fork mount design.

For the other three bikes you mentioned I recommend the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier, part # Y02103. This carrier does not require removing the wheel to hold it secure when traveling. The carrier can work with adult bikes and also kid's bikes.

Roof rack bike racks will work fine with the crossbars on the Rack And Roll trailer.

I have attached links to some videos about these items you can check out.
