Adding 7-Way/4-Pole Vehicle Socket to 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup with 4-Pole Connector
Question:
I have a 2005 dodge ram 3500 and the trailer plug in broke and I need to replace it. The harness on the truck has a 4 way hanging from the harness behind the bumper. I want to know if I can extend the 4 way and use the Hopkins 7blade/4way unit you have for the dodge. It has the oem rectangular plug with the Pollack socket. Thanks.

If your 2005 Dodge Ram 3500's existing 4-pole trailer connector works and you want to convert that to a combination 7-Way/4-pole format you can plug in part # 37185 from Hopkins. This item has both connector formats (7-way RV style and 4-pole flat) and simply plugs in to your existing 4-pole wiring. The lighting signals will then appear on both the 4-pole and 7-way contacts.
The Hopkins part also includes pigtail leads to make the additional circuit connections for trailer brakes, 12V power and a reverse light signal.
As an option, if you have factory wiring you can test the OEM rectangular connector on the truck (where the 4-pole plugs in) to see if there are 7 pins and that all are active. If so, you could use # 20135 to get both connector formats. You may need to install a fuse to activate the 12V power feed.
