7-Way and Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2010 Ford F-150 STX
Question:
2010 F150 STX 4x4 with factory 4-pin Trailer Connector square connector located next to spare tire. Vehicle does not have factory Brake Controller, as I will be installing an aftermarket controller which I am under the impression the connection is present in the dash already. I need to add a 4pin/7pin Trailer Connection. What harness kit do I need? Do I need to run a Brake Controller Wire and 12v wire to the front of the truck? I need to have reverse lights on the trailer I am towing as well. Please send a complete list of required parts. Thanks for any assistance.

Since you have the square trailer wiring connector under the rear of your 2010 Ford F-150 you will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the pins of if for voltage with different taillight circuits activated. If the circuits are activated you would want to use the part # C56110 as a 4-way and the start of your trailer wiring.
If the circuits aren't active you instead would want the # 18252 for a 4-way.
From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
