Is Weight Distribution Needed When Truck Is Level When Towing Trailer

Question:

Do I need a WDH if my truck rides level with the trailer attached? If I take the weight off the rear axles, does my torque power change ie, better acceleration and or more power up hills?

To determine if you need a weight distribution system there are a few things you want to consider. If the trailer weighs more than 50 percent of your towing vehicle. If you experience trailer sway, or you find it difficult to steer when towing. Other factors would be if the rear of your truck sags when towing, which you said you do not have, or if your headlights point upward.

I have attached a helpful article about weight distribution and sway control you can check out. If you want to let me know the vehicle, trailer weight and tongue weight I can make some recommendations that will work for you.

With the weight removed from the rear axle of your towing vehicle you could experience traction issues or braking issues, but you will not increase the power up hills or on level roads. The acceleration will not change because you are still carrying the same weight regardless of the weight on the axles.
