Video Transcript for Tow Ready Wiring TR20141 Review

Today we're going to review part number TR20141. This is the Tow Ready 7 way to 4 way and 5 way adapter LED lamp out bypass adapter for the Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, and Porsche. This adapter was designed to work with the Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche vehicles and any other vehicles that otherwise not compatible when towing a trailer with LED lights. Basically on those vehicles, there's not enough draw from the LED lights on the trailer and the vehicle thinks there's a bulb out and will produce a warning lamp. This adapter actually has load resisters on the inside and that will simulate additional loads so that it does not happen and the lights will work on your trailer. This adapter will plug into your factor 7 way on your tow vehicle and allow you to plug in back here either a 4 way or a 5 way connector on a trailer. You'll notice there is 5 plugs and the 4 way, you just eliminate that end one. You always use the ground one, so when you plug in the 4 way you'll just not be using that end plug right there. That should do it for the review on part number TR20141.

The Tow Ready 7 way to 4 and 5 way adapter LED lamp out bypass adapter for the Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, and Porsche vehicles. .

Driving a '13 Escape, factory trailer tow package, pulling an Aluma tilt trailer w/ LED lights. When initiating signal light, it flashes rapidly w/ dash warning of trailer bulb failure + audible alarm. Also, stop/tail lights flash on/off as if hazard lights were on. I've researched several 'fixes' for a vehicle that is not programmed for pulling a trailer w/ LED lights: 1. connect in load resistors; 2. use wiring harness compatible w/ LED lights; 3. Ford has their own fix TSB-13-1-5 (which rewires the vehicle trailer tow package + adds different module. Not a good fix in my opinion). From etrailer.com, I've ordered p/n: 30717 (Adaptor 4 pole to 7 pole vehicle end trailer connector), AND p/n: TR20141 (7 way to 5 and 4 way trailer adaptor for VW, Audi, Porsche towing trailers w/ LED lights). P/N: 30717 does require you to connect the white wire (ground) to a ground point (frame or metal bracket) on the tow vehicle. I did this with a flat 2 way connector I purchased at the local hardware store (just join both wires, they're going to ground anyway). In conclusion, yes, there are two connectors back there to support, I've just used small/short bungee cords to hold the connectors to the receiver hitch & the trailer tongue. I've also used dielectric grease between the different connectors. All in all, the trailer lights now work as they should, no vehicle dash warnings, no problems! Thanks etrailer for your support. Finally happy towing. 152198

Comments

Ive towed the trailer several times with the two connectors purchased from etrailer and the lights are working perfectly.

This resolved my issues with my 2007 BMW X5 3.0si. My trailer LED lights had just been blinking whenever the 4-pin flat plug was plugged into the round BMW adapter. The brake and turn signal lights still worked, but when nothing else was going on, or even when the lights were turned off, all the trailer lights just flashed constantly. When I first plugged this in, the lights did the same thing. I unplugged it, reseated the 4-pin flat plug, then reseated the round adapter, and the trailer lights were still flashing. I turned on the car lights and tried the brake and signal lights. Trailer lights still flashing. I turned the headlights off, and the trailer lights went off! Brake lights and turn signals worked, and no flashing lights! Turned the headlights back on, clearance lights and tail lamps worked and no flashing! Brake lights and turn signals worked and no flashing! Cycled through everything a couple of times, and all was good - guess it just needed to get used to everything, but now it is working great! This $15 piece saved a $4,000 investment, so I'm quite happy! It also showed up a day faster than expected, which made it even better. Pat was a very big help getting it selected and getting it here faster! 126557

Ive had no problems with the trailer wiring adapter at all since I first started using it. Its rock-solid performance has really made me a happy camper. I just wish Id known about the problem a week before I bought the trailer! Its a great produce!

I have a 2012 Mercedes GL550. Using the standard 7/4 adapter the trailer lights would flash, cancel the blind spot sensors and trip the bulb monitor. After researching this the problem lies all over the place and not with one model either. The blind spot mirror issue is in the owners manual but not trailering section. Using this adapter it stops the flashing trailer lights but the trailer lamp out persists on the dash. This problem is inherent to many late model German automobiles on a hit and miss basis. VW, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche. On my 2011 GL450 this problem was not present, but on my 2012 GL550 it is. Mercedes was on no help at least my servicing dealer was of no help. The selling dealer said he knew of the problem but recommended a trailer shop for further help. The trailer shop says it's the vehicle and not the trailer as they sell to these customers all the time. I've not seen too many of these buyers pulling trailers! They suggested installing resistors in the trailer wiring. I'm not inclined to doing so. The trailer works great on my other two vehicles. The Benz is what the problem is! But like everything in Benz fashion. I'll be dead and gone before they even care there's a problem! 214690

This plug was purchased for my 2010 Porsche Cayenne S and works perfectly with my boat trailer that has LED lights. I originally had a more generic plug and the LED lights on the trailer seemed way too bright. I would also get a momentary warning about the lights system when starting the car. Now that I have this specific plug, I no longer get the warnings and the trailer lights operate at the proper intensity. Exactly what I needed for my set-up! 98630

Your product has worked perfectly for me for the past year. I do not tow very often, but when I do, the connector provides exactly what I need to properly connect the LED lighting system and brake system on the trailer to my 2010 Porsche Cayenne S.

Product arrived promptly and is exactly as described. On my 2009 Mercedes ML550 this is REQUIRED if you want to rent any trailers with LED lights at U-Haul. Beware the dimwits at U-Haul as they have NO CLUE what they are doing. eTrailer.Com has this priced at HALF what U-Haul charges, and they don't even know Mercedes cars need them! 137343

PERFECT. I switched my glider trailer to LED lights, the U-Haul adapter doesnt work, this works perfectly! I even got the wiring right the first time, played Lotto, didnt win squat. :

If you have a European SUV. Audi Porsche BMW Meecedes etc this will work like a charm. I bought a trailer with LED lights and when I connected it to my vehicle the trailer lights would not work. The would flash or not come on at all. It is because of the low current that LED lights produce. The vehicle sensors thing there is a light out and tries to locate it. This adapter bypasses the vehicle current sensor and allows the lights to function correctly. I tried shopping local but nobody had it. This was shipped fast and exactly what I needed. Thanks. 175517

This was the fix for towing a trailer with LED's from my Mercedes ML550, which the dealership knew nothing about and only said the SUV was good so problem must be in the trailer. 145652

Comments

My BMW dealer was the same way. No idea why the LED trailer lights wouldnt work with the standard BMW adapter. Even though this is apparently a well-known problem with German and apparently Swedish, from some of the other reviews cars. When eTrailers solved my problem with this adapter, I talked with my BMW dealers service chief, and he didnt seem interested at all. Oh well.

Works exactly as advertised for our VW Touareg and trailer that now runs LED tails (which I happily bought from etrailer.com). Ignore the wiring diagram on the packaging as it's wrong. etrailer.com has much better wiring diagrams and pin-outs that can be used. 127608

Excellent solution to my problem. Have RV with MB 3500 chassis. I needed to obtain power for an LED lighted license plate holder I added via an attachment to the rear ladder of RV when carrying bikes and bike cover which hid the normal license plate location. I wanted to use the normal trailer hitch plug for the power source. However, it only registered 1 or 2 volts D/C. This adapter fooled the MB electrical system into thinking a trailer was attached which allowed the MB electrical system to release full 12-13 volt power to the trailer hitch plug. Also, the LED lights didn't flicker and they go on and off as I turn the MB lights on and off at the front dashboard. Very cool! Needed to also purchase the four plug adapter to plug into the back of this adapter and then the four plug adapter is wired to the LED license plate holder. 466391

Great product! I got a new boat this year with LEDs on the trailer. I couldn't figure out why the trailer lights wouldn't work with my 2012 MB GL450. I even went to the MB dealer and the parts guy was unaware of the issue. This adapter also works with my other trailer with incandescent lights. 230668

From the start I have had issues with trailer lights on my Porsche Cayenne Turbo and whatever product I tried, it did not fix the problem. The plugs I ordered from www.Etrailer.com plugged right in and fixed the problem between the LED trailer lighting and my Porsche. I hear it is a common issue on German vehicles, so I highly recommend this product to anyone. I couldn't be happier with the product itself AND the customer service from the staff all the way from the order, to confirming delivery. Thanks again! Attached are a few pictures of the towing setup! 102018

You NEED this if you have a Mercedes SUV and plan to pull a trailer with LED lights. It will not work with a straight 7 to 4/5 adapter that does not have the load resistors. Mercedes (and many other makers) have made the vehicles way too smart for their own good. With a standard connector you will get all manner of alarms. Not will you get alarms for bulb failures on the trailer, but also since it uses the presence of a plug in the trailer connector to put the drive train into trailer mode, it will keep dithering between trailer and non trailer mode. This also means that you have to remove the adapter if you are not actively pulling a trailer. This is not a problem with the adapter, it is due to the software in the drive train controls. 248056

Simple solution to an annoying problems - my trailer had LED lights and the turn signals would blink ultra-fast; also, my tow vehicle - 2007 VW Touareg - would constantly tell me the trailer lights were not working properly. My trailer had a flat 4-pin connector and the vehicle had both flat-4 and round 7-pin connectors. I plugged the adapter into the vehicle and the trailer into the adapter and everything worked perfectly. The only alteration I had to make was a simple cut in my trailer's flat-4 connector so it would slide onto the adapter (the adapter is setup for either a 4-pin or 5-pin but the 4th pin on your 4-pin connector must be exposed to fit - a simple cut with a utility knife removed the end on the trailer connector). 183251

A year ago I purchased this adapter to connect a 2006 Mercedes Benz ML 350 to a small tag along trailer that I had recently upgraded by replacing the original trailer light bulbs with LED trailer lights. When I connected the new LED trailer lights to the vehicle, the lights would not illuminate properly. After checking my wiring and doing some research, I discovered that this Mercedes had problems detecting the low current associated with the LED bulbs, essentially causing the vehicle to "think" that bulbs were not illuminating properly. I purchased this adapter from etrailer and the vehicle lights and the LED trailer lights have functioned perfectly ever since. I wish all fixes were this easy! 253742

After buying a 2015 2.7L ecoboost F150 I found that the "Auto start stop" was a bit annoying.... Did a little research and found that if you have a trailer plugged into the trailer wiring it deactivates the feature. So, I bought an LED hitch light and the factory towing control of the truck would inform me that my trailer lights was out. left, right turns, stop etc.... So, after googling i found this website and they had this adapter that was made for foreign vehicles. After reading the reviews i found someone had used this on a newer model ford that had the same problem. So, i bought it and installed it and everything worked GREAT!! GREAT PRODUCT!! 241251

I have a 2012 Navion RV (Sprinter chassis, Mercedes drive train). Becuse the trailer wiring feeds into a dedicated module, it is not possible to connect a trailer with LED lights. The lights on the trailer will not work because the LEDs do not demand enough power to trigger the regulator on the module. I ordered the TR 20141from e-trailer. It converts from a 5 or 6 flat to a 7 round. Built into this plug are resistors that increase the demand on the module as would incandescent lights on a trailer. The TR 20141 solved the problem. It is well made, easy to wire and is reasonably priced. Very satisfied with delivery too. No fear with e-trailer. 141757

I recently purchased a new PWC with a trailer that has LED lights. When we connected the trailer to our ML 350 the trailer lights would not work. The dealer had no idea why. Our other boat trailer worked when connected to the Mercedes. So after many net searches and purchasing three 7 to 4 pin adapters that did not work, I happened upon the etrailer web site. Their info was excellent explaining that Mercedes, Porches, and Volkswagen cars needed a resistive load in order to work with a trailer that has LED lights. The TR20141 worked perfectly. Their customer service is excellent! 209319

If you did swap all your trailed light for led, and you happend to have a very nice expensive car/truck that wont see the trailer anymore because there isn't enough power draw by the led. Then this is exactly what you want, don't start welding resistor into the new system you just installed. Just get that adapter and problem solved! All light are working. Then if you tow another trailer with led you are will equipped as well and if you lend your trailer to someone who doesn't have that expensive trailer sensor, then everything will word as expected! :) Thanks! 514089

I purchased this product because my new 2017 Ford F150 Lariat gave me errors when I used an LED hitch cover light. I read the response by etrailer to another person having the same problem. It corrects the error message that a light was burnt out. My truck still thinks I have my trailer connected but no longer gives me errors. One other thing it does is that because it thinks I have a trailer my truck disables the shut off restart feature that shuts off the motor when your stopped at a traffic light (start/stop) option. 418626

Could not get tow dolly lights (LED) to work correctly from MB Sprinter Chasis RV. Regular 7 way to 4 way flat adapter did not work. No one had a clue...found this adapter on your web sight. Looked like the solution. Trailer shipped immediately, I received in 3 days, plugged it in and now everything works as it should. Wish more people knew about this problem and carried this adapter. There are increasing numbers of trailers with LED lights as well as Mercedes Sprinter Chasis RV's. 261566

I have a 2001 BMW E53 X5 with the factory tow package. It has a 7 blade round connecotr, however my tailer for the jetski and jet boat both have the 4 flat connector. None of the trailers have LED at the moment and I doubt that I will ever convert them to LED. I need an adapter connector so that I can connect the trailer lights to the BMW connector.

On my Touareg (2004 model) with a trailer with LED lights hooked up, I would get "CHECK LIGHTS" flashing on the dash and an annoying DING! from the dash every 15 seconds. That's enough to drive you mad! A Cayenne or Audi Q7 would do the same, fyi. After researching online, this seemed to be the adapter I needed to add the right resistance to prevent the warning from appearing, and it worked! No more warning, no more annoying chime. And the price was great too. Thumbs up! 115646

Worked as advertised, it eliminated the error warnings for lt/rt lights out on trailer using LED lights. However I'm using it on a LED lighted hitch cover vs a trailer, so I still get the annoying trailer connected and blind spot warning off warnings :( I've researched as much as I could but can't find anything available anywhere to handle lighted hitch cover issues specifically for the new ford wiring. If this part covered that it would easily been 5 stars. 486916

Shipment was fast. Received in just under a week from when I ordered! Adaptor corrected my flashing parking lamp problem and everything now works as it should. Only issue was is that I was unable to use the tracking feature on the website to see where my package was or when it would arrive...since I received it pretty quickly, that was really not that big a deal but probably something that could be improved....I would definitely do business here again!!! 114536

I was extremely happy to find this company who created economical solutions for unexpected challenges. A few weeks ago I was unable to rent from UHAUL because my 2010 MB ML was unable to control the new LED trailers. I had to look for a trailer with incandescent lamps. Amazing product, works like a charm. Trips to two different Mercedes dealers who could not figure out why my trailer was giving me trouble after I replaced the lights with etrailer LEDs. All I needed was a $ adapter! 358505

Ask the Experts about this Tow Ready Wiring
Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • Using an Adapter to Tow a Trailer with LED Lights with a 2012 Mercedes GL450
  • Yes. If your trailer with LED lights has a 5-Way or 4-Way flat connector then you would use adapter # TR20141. If the trailer has a 7-Way connector you would need # C57003. These adapters have load resistors in them that provide additional power draw so the vehicle thinks there are incandescent lights on the trailer. The other option is to install load resistors, # P230004A, in line on each circuit on the trailer wiring behind its connector. You can also use this method if the resistors...

  • Troubleshooting Factory Trailer Wiring that has No Power
  • My first thought would be blown fuses, so I would be sure to double check all fuses and relays related to the tow package. This information will be listed in your owners manual. Check to ensure you are getting power at the trailer connector on your vehicle. Using a circuit tester like # 40376, test the vehicle side connector since it's factory trailer wiring. Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector...

  • Trailer Lights Do Not Work with 2014 Chevy Silverado But Do Work with 2008 Chevy Silverado
  • The trailer connector on the 2014 Chevy Silverado will be the same as previous generations because it is an industry standard. Factory integrated trailer brake controllers sometimes will not work with electric over hydraulic braking systems so if that is what is on the trailer then that could be the problem. The solution would be to install an aftermarket brake controller that is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes like the P2, # 90885, using wiring harness # 3016. But since...

  • Mercedes ML350 Does Not Work with a Trailer that Has LED Tail Lights
  • German engineered vehicles such as your Mercedes ML350 do have problems with LED trailer lights. A powered converter could solve the issue but there are also special adapters that create more draw that will allow the affected vehicles to tow a trailer with LED lights and not have that bulb out sensor issue. I would need to know the year of your Mercedes ML350 to make a wiring harness recommendation. You would need to have a 7-Way wiring harness on the vehicle already to use the...

  • Adapter for 2010 Mercedes-Benz GL450 Towing Trailer With LED Lighting to Avoid False Short Indicator
  • The answer is that you are needing the TowReady # TR20141. This adapter is used because LED's draw such low power that a lot of times on German vehicles your lamp out indicator will illuminate giving you the impression that you have an issue, when in reality you do not. With this adapter you will be able to tow your trailer with your 2010 MB GL450 without a problem. The adapter has built in load resistors that create more draw so the sensors think everything is working normally. If...

  • Trailer Lights Not Working Using 4- to 7-Way Adapter on a 2012 Mercedes GL450
  • If the trailer has LED lights then the issue isn't the adapter or the trailer. It is the vehicle. The 2012 Mercedes GL450 and other German vehicles do not work well with trailers that have LED lights. This is because LED lights do not draw enough power for the tow package on the vehicle to recognize them. Usually this is accompanied by a bulb out sensor light in the vehicle. The fix is to use a special adapter such as # TR20141. Or, if this is the adapter you are using then adding load...

  • Left Side Trailer Lights Not Working But All Other Lights are Fine
  • On a 7-Way trailer connector usually the wire functions are green for running lights, black for 12 volt power, yellow for reverse lights, brown for right turn/brake lights, red for left turn/brake lights, blue for electric trailer brakes, and white is ground. With that said it is best to test the connector using a circuit tester such as # 3808 while someone sits in the truck and runs through the lighting functions. On the trailer, the 4-Way will have the one covered pin as the ground....

  • Solution for Newer Ford with Bulb Out Error Message When Using LED Hitch Cover
  • This is a problem we normally see with German vehicles when they try to tow a trailer with LED lights. The issue is that the lower amperage draw of the LED lights is just enough to confuse the vehicle that it is drawing too much and because of that it wants to tell you that you have a bulb out on your vehicle. Normally the fix for this is to use the # TR20141 which has diodes in it that increase the amperage draw to what an incandescent bulb would draw on a trailer which eliminates the...

  • 7-Way to 4-Pole Trailer Connector Adapter for 2013 Porsche Cayenne
  • If your Cayenne has the 7-way connector, you will simply need an adapter to convert it to a 4-pole. Because your Cayenne is equipped with a bulb-out sensor, if your trailer has LED lamps you will need to use an adapter with a resistor in it like part # TR20141. LED lamps draw very little power, and fool the bulb-out sensor into thinking a bulb is burned out. This will make the turn signals hyper-flash. If your trailer uses incandescent lamps, you can use any of the other 7-way to 4-pole...

  • LED Light Bar and Hitch Light Cause Error Warnings and Disable Backup Features on 2015 Ford F-150
  • The issue might be that the LED lights do not draw enough power and it is confusing the computer on your 2015 Ford F-150. If you accessories plug into a 4-Way then you could use adapter # TR20141 which has built in load resistors to add more load to the system so it won't confuse the computer. If they plug into a 7-Way we have a similar adapter, # C57003. There may be other ways to disable those alerts or to have manual control over them but you may need to check with a Ford technician...

  • Solution for Land Rover LR4 that won't Recognize Trailer with LED Taillights
  • We have a similar product as the one you referenced, part # TR20141. This product works on most German vehicles that have a hard time detecting trailers with LED taillights. I would normally recommend this for a situation like yours. But we have had feedback with other Land Rover owners who have reported that this product did not work with their trailer with LED taillights. The best recommendation I could make for you would be to replace the LED taillights of your trailer with incandescent...

  • Will Tow Ready Wiring Adapter # TR20141 Work With Trailers Using LED or Incandescent Lighting
  • The Tow Ready Trailer Wiring Adapter, part # TR20141, you have referenced will work with both incandescent or LED lights on a trailer. This adapter is designed to be used on vehicles with incandescent lights towing a trailer with LED lights. The Lamp Out Warning Module on your BMW X3 is a feature that lets you know of a bulb that is burned out on your vehicle. It also passes through the trailer wiring. When towing with a trailer that has LED lights, which require less power then incandescent...

  • Solution for Backup Sensor Alerts on a 2014 BMW X5 When Carrying a Bike Rack
  • Yes it would, your 2014 BMW X5 will disable the backup alert system when it senses a trailer connected to the trailer wiring. So the load resistors in the 7-Way to 5-Way and 4-Way Trailer Adapter # TR20141 that you referenced would trick the vehicle into thinking a trailer is connected and and the sensors would not activate because of the brake controller. Another trick that people use with your vehicle is to tape over the sensors with masking tape.

  • Trailer Adapter Needed For a 2011 Volkswagen Touareg Towing a Trailer with LED Lights
  • The 7-Way to 5-Way and 4-Way Trailer Adapter, # TR20141, that you have referenced is the part you need. It is specifically designed to work on a 2007 and newer Volkswagen Touareg when towing a trailer that is equipped with LED lights. Your Touareg will need to already have a 7-Way trailer connector and this this adapter will plug into it. The 5-Way trailer connector will then plug into the back of the adapter and that will be all you need.

  • Troubleshooting LED Utility Trailer Lighting on a 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL450
  • Good news, you are correct in that the Tow Ready # TR20141 adapter will fix your 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL450 to work with your LED trailer lights. Some makes of cars are more sensitive to the LEDs and this adapter contains a resister that's needed to accommodate that sensitivity. With the # TR20141 adapter it will end up taking you from a 7-way to a 4-way, but if your trailer is a 7-way plug I'd recommend the # C57003. The Curt adapter has the same resister but allows you to still have...

  • Load Resistors for LED-Light Trailer Towed by 2017 Audi Q7 with Factory 7-Way
  • I cannot speak for Audi in terms of any progress they've made with the compatibility of their OEM wiring with LED-equipped trailers, but we do offer the Tow Ready adapter # TR20141 you referenced. This will carry your lighting and reverse lockout signals in the 5-pole format. If this does not work for you the other option is to wire in load resistors in front of each LED light on the trailer. Load resistors like ceramic # P230004C or aluminum # P230004A can mimic the electrical characteristics...

  • LED Trailer Tail Lights Will Not Work when Connected to a 2009 Mercedes GL550 with Factory 7-Way
  • There is an issue with German vehicles (Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Volkswagen, and so on) and trailers with LED lights. The LED trailer lights do not offer enough draw on the system for the lights to work. On a lot of these vehicles you will also get a bulb-out warning in the vehicle. The solution is to use an adapter that has load resistors in it, # TR20141, to provide enough draw so the lights will work and so you will not get that bulb-out warning. The adapter will go from a 7-Way...

  • Trailer Brake Lights Not Working when Connected to 2004 Porsche Cayenne S with Factory Tow Package

Use a circuit tester such as # 3808 to test the pins in the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions while someone sits in the vehicle and presses the brake pedal. If there is no power on those pins during this test then it could be a fuse or relay related to the tow package wiring. Your Cayenne has a fuse box under the hood and in the cab on each end of the...

  • Towing Trailer With LED Lamps with 2012 VW Tiguan
  • Since you already have the 7-way trailer connector, all you will need is the Tow Ready adapter, part # TR20141. This adapter uses an internal load resistor that will prevent the bulb out sensor from triggering. Without the LED adapter, the very low power draw from the LED trailer lamps will make the bulb out sensor think there is a burned out trailer lamp bulb. Simply plug the adapter into your existing 7-way, and then plug the 4-pole on your trailer into the adapter. There is no...

On the vehicle side, make sure that the main ground is attached to a clean bare metal surface on the frame. On the trailer side connector, again make sure that the main ground is attached to a clean metal surface. Use...

  • Can Load Resistors be Used on a Mercedes with a CANBUS Electrical System
  • Load resistors such as # P230004C-2 just create more current draw on a circuit. The constant draw should be compatible with the CANBUS system on your Mercedes but it is possible that the vehicle computer may consider it a short and throw a warning. They are used primarily to fix hyper flashing on LED lights used in the turn signals. Both ceramic and aluminum load resistors are going to generate heat. Aluminum dissipates the heat a little better. The aluminum set is # P230004A-2. If...

This particular adapter was designed to offer enough resistance when towing a trailer with LED lights so you no longer get those errors. The other option is to install load resistors, like # P230004A-2 for a 2-pack, in line on the trailer wiring for each circuit.

As long as the 7-way on your 4Runner is fully functional, in most cases the adapter will work just fine for you. If your 4Runner has a bulb out sensor that warns you when you have a burned out taillight, and you are towing a trailer that uses LED taillights, you will need to use an adapter that has a load resistor installed in it, like part # TR20141. Either adapter can also be...
