Today we are going to show you the safety poll and clip for the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer, part number Y08114. One of the accessories that Yakima offers for their Rack and Roll trailers is the safety poll and clip. The safety poll is a 40 inch tall, yellow fiberglass rod that is designed to attach to the trailer so that you can see where the trailer is when you are backing up your vehicle. The safety poll is especially handy with larger vehicles, like full-size trucks and SUVs. Yakima also offers a lifetime warranty on the safety poll. 0:31
There are two methods for installing the safety poll on a Yakima Rack and Roll trailer. The first is to use the track on the left hand or right hand side of the trailer frame. Take the bolt with the square head and it into the track. Then, slide it into position where you want the safety poll. Take the safety poll and set the mounting loop over the bolt. Use the included washer and nylon lock nut to secure the poll to the trailer. The second method for installation is using the cross bar of the trailer. Yakima includes a cross bar clip and a second set of hardware for installing the safety poll on the cross bar. Slip the clip over the cross bar. Drop the bolt through the safety poll and the clip and tighten down with the included wing nut. 1:33

The pole attaches easily to your trailer frame or crossbar with a clip.the mounting spring for the pole is bent at an angle so the pole doesn't stand up straight. Its basically at
a 45 degree angle.
Love this so much I bought 2 and gave one to my friend, who was having trouble backing up his Yakima. It's secure, and you can see it from all angles.

Helps to be aware of where the back of the trailer is. We have a Yakima Rack and Roll.
Attached to my roof rack trailer; helps me find and see the one corner of my trailer. Works as intended - no issues or problems with it.
Product as specified, quality good but mounting tab was bent back on itself. Easy to fix but I am afraid it is much weaker now. Also plastic mount was cracked unable to use. The shipping box was undamaged, so I don't believe that was cause. Great service and shipping from Etrailer.
Excellent quality and really great communication from ET. Wish their was an option for mounting on the trailer frame itself
The spring attachment concentrates
all of the flexing between the bolt attachment and the last spring wind at the bottom of the pole.This leads to fatigue in the spring's metal and failure of the spring wire at this point.This needs redesigned.The safety pole is a good accessory but the attachment is wanting.
after using it for a year, i found it to be of no value, not really useful. will remove it next season as it creates wind resistance cutting back on my gas mileage.

its been off and I dont miss it
I suggest removing them for longer road trips. The first two were lost somewhere on the highway. Eventually the rods become unattached from their mounts. They are very useful when backing and launching.
