Notes:

  • This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.
  • Will not fit a spare tire mount with an 8-hole pattern or a hole-pattern diameter greater than 5-1/2".

Yakima SpareRide

The Yakima SpareRide lets you carry 2 bikes on your vehicle's factory spare tire. The rack features folding dual arms and SuperCush anti-sway cradles with ratcheting ZipStrip straps. It installs with a hand knob and universal mounting plate, and it includes locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

SuperCush Anti-Sway Cradles with Ratcheting ZipStrip Straps

SuperCush Anti-Sway Cradles

The Yakima SpareRide has premium cradles to carry and protect your bikes during transport. The anti-sway cradles limit bike movement to help prevent bike-to-bike contact. Premium TPE padding protects your bikes' frames from damage by absorbing road shock and vibration.

Ratcheting ZipStrip Staps

The cradles also include ratcheting ZipStrip straps that make loading and unloading your bikes a breeze. Simply insert the strap into the buckles on the cradle and push it down until it's snug around your bike frame. The ZipStrips can be removed quickly by pressing the release levers on the sides of each anti-sway cradle.

Folding Dual Arms

SpareRide Folding Dual Arms

The SpareRide's dual arms provide excellent stability for your bikes during transport. The quick-release TriggerFinger control lever lets you quickly fold the arms down when you're not carrying any bikes. When you're ready to load the rack up again, simply lift the arms until they lock in place with an audible click.

Easy Installation with Universal Mounting Plate

SpareRide Mounting Plate

The rack installs on your spare tire mount with a plate and shank. The mounting plate fits over the lug nuts of your spare tire mount, and the shank extends from the plate through your spare tire's pilot hole. You can position this plate at 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock, depending on your lug nut pattern.

SpareRide Locking Hand Knob

Once the plate is installed, simply replace your spare tire, slide the rack onto the exposed shank, and tighten the hand knob.

Spare Ride Extensions for Oversized Tires

The system comes with a standard shank and 2 extensions shanks so you can mount the rack on vehicles with oversize tires up to 12-1/2" wide. The shanks swap out easily with the included Allen wrench.

Rubber TireTread Spacers

Rubber TireTread Spacers

The SpareRide features a pair of rubber TireTread spacers on the back of the rack. These spacers stabilize the rack against the spare tire and help protect the rack and your bikes from vibration. These spacers also guard your spare against damage caused by the rack rubbing against the tire.

Complete Security

SpareRide Cable Lock and Locking Knob

The SpareRide includes 2 keyed-alike Same Key System lock cores - one in the cable lock and the other in the hand knob. The cable lock wraps around your bikes, through the built-in anchor point on the front of the mast, and locks to itself. The hand knob tightens the rack to your spare tire. These SKS cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima gear keyed alike.

Integrated Bottle Openers

Integrated Bottle Opener

An integrated bottle opener on the end of each arm allows you to enjoy a cold one after a long ride.

Solid unit at a good price. Breeze to install.

by:

Best product love it greatest bike rack ever, shipped so fast love it .I am telling everyone this is the place to buy a rack .

by:

It's perfect. Sturdy and strong. Low profile when not carting the bikes. I'm a happy guy!

by:

It was easy to install the rack. And, easy to install bicycles. But, I haven't yet drove the vehicle with the bicycles mounted. So, when I do and If I experience any problems, I will advice accordingly. So far, pleased with the product.

It was very easy to attached to my Jeep. It came already assembled. Very strong and sturdy.
I am very pleased with it!!!

Superior quality product. Fits perfectly on my 97 CR-V.
Best price and prompt shipment from etrailer.

Great bike rack and easy to put on Jeep. Etrailer was great e-store to buy from. Easy process and fast shipment.

by:

Attractive unit. Very easy and quick to install. Shipping was extremely fast.
Unit extension bars are a little short for two adult mountain bikes. They fit but are extremely close and tight. If they were 1-2 inches longer it would be perfect.
All together I am pleased with the unit.

by:

Was easy to install. Appears to be very durable. You will likely need tube bars for your bike(s) though, which are an additional $25 / bar. I think it's a great product.

by:

I had a great experience! Great website...easy to find what I needed...tracking of shipment was easy....showed up on time and in great condition

Highly recommend etrailer.com and this product

by:

Great product and service- the only issue is that you need to secure the handlebars/fork- so they don't move during stops/starts (was simple with a bungie tie down) but otherwise a great solid bike rack with unbelievably quick delivery

Pontiac Trans Sport Van

This is a very well made bike rack, easy to install, easy to load. I am now able to transport my bicycles safely. Of course I expect this high quality from a Yakima product. As always the product was shipped immediately from etrailer. I really appreciate the speed in which this order was processed and shipped.

by:
2009 Toyota RAV4

Shipping was super-fast - ordered on a Saturday, received feedback on Sunday, and the rack arrived on Tuesday. I also liked the shipping progress map on the shipping status page. Not sure if it is accurate but it is pretty neat.

We are happy with the rack so far; it was easy to install and is very sturdy. I do have one area of concern that I did not think about before ordering - the rack was installed on a 2009 Rav4 and I wonder about potential structure damage (over time) to the back door due to the addition weight of the rack and bikes.

I would use eTrailer again.

Jeep

The service from etrailer was exceptional! The bike carrier shipped immediately and arrived much quicker than the estimated 11 days.

Easily installed on my 2004 Jeep Rubicon and is an attractive secure spare tire rack. Highly recommended!

by:

A breeze to install. Have one minor complaint, there is slack on the nnterconnect between the main body and the bar that it slides on tol I was able to tighten up the structure, but once the bike was mounted, (centered on the vehicle) there was more bike on one side than the other and the entire main body tilts slightly to the Left. Its not a major problem, just "bugs' me cause I like things straight and level! John

Jeep

The online video was perfect. There was some concern about the product fitting on a Jeep, and the video showed it working. I ordered on a Monday, and received it on Thursday. I opened the box and had it installed in about 10 minutes. The rack is quality and I like that when not in use, it folds up and takes up very little room. I can still use the trailer hitch to pull trailers when the rack is there. I can not pull my boat with the bicycle on it, but I don't ride and fish at the same time any way! Great experience!

2009 Toyota RAV4

Well made and strong. The only caution is installing the adaptor plate. I have a 2009 Toyota RAV4 limited and the instructions simply say "if you have a spare tire support bracket this needs to be removed." Easily said...but you will need a metal cutting disc or sawsall to cut it off. It's tough metal! I don't keep those kind of tools just laying around...Otherwise, it was a simple installation.

2008 Jeep Wrangler

Ordered and it came the very next day, even though I picked standard shipping. Received multiple e-mails from etrailer updating me on the status of my product. Installation would have been really easy except the bolt attached to the short tongue (I needed to use the medium tongue) was screwed in so tight I couldn't get it loose. I ended up taking it to a local hardware store for a very big, burly man to use a bolt-cheater to get it undone after he put in quite an effort (I felt validated that it took him some force to get it off). I called customer service about the tight bolt and they offered to send another if I couldn't get it undone. I have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited soft top and the attachment plate had to go on upside down compared to what the directions say, but that was no problem. Already used it once and it was a tight fit for both of our hybrid bikes, but we managed to get them secured, using additional straps to help cinch the bikes tight during transport. Seems like a great product so far.

2004 Jeep Wrangler

Outstanding product and even better retailer.

I found a lower price for the carrier shortly after I purchased it. eTrailer honored their price guarantee immediately upon notification. The carrier was easy to order with detailed advice to ensure a proper match to my vehicle and delivery was FAST.

The I cannot be happier with the Carrier itself. It successfully carried one bike from SC to AR over some pretty questionable road conditions. When I arrived, the bike had to remain on the carrier while I drove around town for 4 days. I now have the utmost confidence in the carrier.

Note: I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with OEM tires and used the medium post (included).

Jeep Wrangler

Great rack and pretty easy installation. Secures bikes really well. Very easy to use once you find the ideal configuration for bikes. The directions could definitely use some clarification. A WORD OF ADVICE TO 2007-12 JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS: Based on the stock tire size on the Jeep (P255) the instructions will tell you to use the medium-sized tongue. If you do this, the rack WILL NOT tighten down all the way and will jiggle and rotate on the spare. Use the short tongue that comes pre-installed on the rack system. I had the rack assembled according to the instructions and it was way loose. Had to take it all apart and put back on the short tongue. Other than that setback, assembly was a breeze.

The rack is a quality piece of equipment and I'm very impressed with it's workmanship. I installed it on my 2006 Honda CR-V and it went on without any problems. The entire installation may have taken 15 minutes. Two bikes fit very tightly.
Also, I ordered the rack on a Monday and it was delivered on Thursday. It went UPS ground (no shipping charge). I recommend it to anyone with a CR-V!

Jeep Wrangler

After a couple of weeks of researching which type of bike rack I wanted for my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK (hitch mount or spare tire), I decided on the spare tire mount. And after a 4hr (roundtrip) mountain biking weekend escape, I'm very happy with my decision.
What I like about the rack:
well built, very sturdy with bike(s) mounted (no sway or rattle), arms fold down and lock in place when not in use (looks slick), full access to cargo area without needing to remove rack, rack and bike cable locks included, economical, lifetime warranty and of course the dual bottle openers ; )
What I would improve upon or revise in a future model:
arms should be longer (even just an inch because bikes rub slightly so I had to add padding), more use of aluminum rather than plastic (thinking long term durability of the plastic locking teeth and arms)
Thanks eTrailer

The Thule Spare Me Bike rack part # TH963PRO and the Yakima Spare Tire part # Y02599 both do come with locks to secure the rack to your spare tire and cable locks to secure the bikes to the carrier.
