Today on our 2015 Volkswagen GTI, we will be doing a test fit of the Yakima Q Tower roof rack system. For your round bar here, it's going to be part number Y00408. You also have your Q Towers, which is going to be part number Y00124, as well as two sets of foot packs. You will have your Y00664s, which in this case, is going to be for our back bar, and on the vehicle right now, we have our Y00663. Which, the only difference is that your bars are going to be a little bit shorter on the front than they are on the back for the Q clips here. We'll go ahead and go through how to get everything assembled. We will be using a few different tools, as well.
An Allen key, a flat head screwdriver, a soft tape, and a hard tape for when we get our bar measurement. Flip these caps up on your Q Towers, and we're going to go ahead and un-thread this piece here. All right, once that comes out, we're going to set it off to the side and now, we're going to go ahead and get our feet, our Q Towers, onto our bars. Once we got that side on, lets go ahead and put on the other side. So we'll go ahead and from the top part here, this bar over here is going to be 38 inches.
Lets go ahead and try and get these evenly spaced out. Let's go ahead and tighten up our Allen bolts here, and then I'll secure that gripper to the bottom of the bar so that our bar does not move. Come over to the other side and we'll do the same thing. Now that we got those on there, we'll go ahead and close up those plastic caps on the end. We'll go ahead and do this one and put the ends back on. You can slide your pinky in to that side over there and push it out, like so.
We'll just get it lined up and then thread it back in. Once you got that one started, go ahead and move to the other side real quick, because those will need to stay a little bit loose till we get it on the vehicle, then we can get everything straightened around. Let's go ahead and go through how to get your Q clips on. You're going to pull down on the clip. With both fingers, pull that clip out. Then, we'll go ahead and pull this piece out the back side.
From there, we'll go ahead and grab our clip, and it's going to go in facing towards the Q slot. The L facing towards the Q slot. They'll be two grooves, one on each side. This bar will actually sit inside those rails, as you can see there. We'll go ahead and line, or put our key back in there, our key lock. Once we have that back in, we'll go ahead and slide our clip back over. We'll go over to the other side here and do the same thing. There we go. Once we have that, it's time to put the foot pads on. We'll go ahead and push those on. Next, we'll go over to the other side and put it on, like so. Next, it comes with your Q Towers, you also have your two end caps. These will go on after we get it to this point, like so. Now we're ready to get it up on the vehicle and get our last of our measurements and get it all tightened up. Let's go ahead and open up our doors and we'll go ahead and get our rack system. Once you got that, you need to adjust your little turn knob here. That's going to pull this plate up a little bit and once you push down on the lever, you'll turn this. Go ahead and tighten it up as far as you need to. Once you're done, you'll pull down on this and it will pull this bracket up and over with this little hook that's on the backside, as you can see there. Let's go ahead and get the other side on. It should be nice and tight. We're going to go ahead and do ours at the minimum, at 32 inches. Let's just make sure that that's the right spot. From center to center of your bar, it's right at 32 inches. It's right where it needs to be. Let's check the other side and close up this side. This side does need to adjust a little bit, which will be real easy to do. Pick it up, move it to where we need it, then tighten it down. With everything tight and in place, that's going to complete our test fit of the Yakima Q Tower, round bar rack system, on our 2015 Volkswagen GTI.
