Today, we're going to review part number UF48-979020. This is the ultra fab steel roller for RVs with two-inch trailer hitches. This roller will attach beneath your hitch receiver opening on your motor home travel trailer or fifth wheel and will help prevent damage to your trailer hitch. The pinning clip that goes in here unto your hitch is sold separately. This unique roller mount will mount under the rear hitch receiver opening. It will help prevent damage to your hitch that can occur from tail-dragging and digging in while back up.
This attaches with a pin and a clip or a hitch lock which we sell separately. This can also be used at the same time as using a ball mount or other hitch-mounted accessories in your hitch. It is made of a heavy duty steal construction and is extra durable. Again, this fits a two-inch trailer hitch receiver. The hitch pin and clipI have an example herethat is sold separately is a 5/8-inch diameter pin that is used with this. It does come with a one-year warranty.
Basically, this would just be screwed on and you have your roller right here. Actually, on one end, right here, there is a an actual zerk fitting that you can actually grease. Put your grease gun, too, and fill this with grease to help the roller out by lubricating it in the inside. Basically, I just want to show you how it installs on the hitch receiver. I got an example here of what your two-inch hitch receiver end would look like.
Basically, you would just place it underneath, line the holes up. Just take the pin and grip the part. Just put it underneath to your hitch receiver, line the holes up, run the pin or the hitch lock, whichever you prefer to use, through there. Put the clip in. As you can see, that would hold it into place and that actually rotates.
When your hitch receiver gets so low to the ground, it will actually roll with the vehicle so that it doesn't dig in or drag. That should do it for our review on part number UF48-9798020.

Roller attaches beneath your motorhome's hitch receiver opening to help prevent damage to your trailer hitch. Pin and clip sold separately. The roller seems heavy duty. It fits on the bottom of my weight distribution hitch shank. The holes line up perfectly.
This is just what I need so that my bike rack doesn't drag on my driveway.
Etrailer had great service and quick shipping.
The service has been exceptional. The part shipped the same day I ordered it. And, coming by USPS, I was surprised when it got to me within a week.
I added this steel roller to the end of a hitch extension for extra protection against scrapping on the ground. This is in addition to the hitch mounted skid wheels.
I welded them to the rear of my toyhauler that came with metal V bars welded to the frame and one had actually broken. Having the wheels has helped the trailer glide over low spots as opposed to the LOUD screeching we got before when it was dragged over them.
Well made. Great compact wheel.
Quick and easy
I ordered this skid roller to help from dragging my tow bar. I have not used it as of yet, but if I remember right, it was about 1/4 the price of Blue Ox's version and appears to be built strong. Make sure you have a long enough hitch pin/lock.
In my application utilizing the roller on a 2016 Mercedes Sprinter van took a bit of time with a grinder to make it fit a
Standard Torklift hitch
I needed the roller to prevent bottoming out on a one vehicle ferry with an aluminum deck.
I installed the Ultra Fab Steel Roller for RV's on my motorhome hitch.
This product works exactly as advertised. The grease fitting is a great asset.

Its been a year and this product is still as good as new
This is a great product ! I have a 23 foot, 2004 Gulf Stream B-Touring Cruiser. It is a Class C motor home with LT 225/75R16 tires. The trailer hitch is very close to the ground and often scrapes the ground in low spots, even when it does not have the tow dolly attached. Now, when a low spot is encountered, the steel roller contacts the ground, rolls forward, so the bottom of the actual hitch does not come in contact with the ground. No more gouges in my drive way ! I recommend this product to all owners of "low" ground scraping trailer hitches.
After researching many alternatives to protect from minor scraping on the hitch extender I installed on my Jayco Greyhawk Class C motorhome, The wheel protects the safety cables from scraping while I’m four-wheels-down towing my Lincoln MkT. I selected this Ultra-Fab Skid Wheel, and so far I’m very satisfied. It’s doing what I need. Of course, the more useful rating would come after about five years in service. Etrailer has been fair and reliable to me.
Had purchased the larger urethane skid wheels which broke the first time they hit the ground. Really wasn't expecting them to last on a 38' Class A, my driveway transition is steep and irregular surface at street.
These steel rollers have held up great, even when I forget and hit the transition too fast. I added a third steel roller to the bottom of the receiver hitch also.
All three have held up great.
The wheel works perfect on my 40' 5th wheel camper. It fits perfect on the 2in. Hitch receiver on the camper bumper and prevents it from scrubbing on my driveway and doing damage. The hitch can still be utilized to mount a bike rack.
I have a 2009 Winnebago Journey and have an issue with the tow hitch bending and breaking the mud flap support bar everytime I leave my driveway or the back end scraps. I bought the pair of hitch mounted skid rollers but after getting them out of the box and installing one, I found that they interfered with the mud flap. After some discussion with Nicole and Carrie Ann at ETrailer, I returned the roller a and bought the hitch mounted single roller. It installs very easily and so far has performed as expected. The customer service reps at E-Trailer were very professional and helpful during this process.
Excellent Service.
Very easy to install.
Product worked as expected.
Helped with tail dragging issue.
Bought this for the low riding and extra long hitch of my 2015 Tiffin Allegro Diesel Pusher Motorhome with air leveling. This motorhome rides approximately 5 1/2 inches off the ground when in travel mode. Of course, you can "Raise" the coach up with the HWH air system, but in steep incline situations, even that is not enough.
First, this roller unit will come shipped to you "dry", meaning you need to fill the zerk on the bolt that extends through the wheel with some good quality grease to assist this roller turning smoothly. Be careful not to over-grease as the grease will extrude out of the roller assembly itself - it is only blocked by the nylon/plastic washer assemblies between the roller and the U-shaped mount assembly.
Second, you need to make sure you have an extended length hitch pin (at least 3 1/2 inches) as this roller assembly mounts/fastens on the outside of the hitch assembly and the "ears" of the assembly are slightly flared out even more than the width of the hitch itself. The extended length hitch pins are readily available as they are now used in most newer Toyota and Ford pickups (among other models) that have a wider hitch assembly.
The metal of this roller surface is pretty soft, so any type of rolling on concrete will put some dimples or marks in the wheel surface; the few times it has made contact with the concrete aggregate surface of my sloped driveway since install show that to be the case.
It appears to work as advertised and only time will tell how it holds up. You hope you don't need to have this rolling on a surface but it sure beats dragging your hitch on the surface.
Took off one star as the metal of the roller seems softer than it should be for this application especially when you consider there is a 26,000 pound RV riding on top of the roller,
I have a 43 foot Jayco dual axle fifth wheel with a facory installed trailer hitch on the rear. Rear end drags on my driveway and most moderate slopes. This roller has prevented the hitch from ruining my driveway and damaging the trailer. Recommend this roller.
Prompt shipping, and product very good quality and was exactly as it was described and pictured. FYI, I had to fabricate mount because of my application. Be sure to check if your safety chain hooks are not in the way of mounting. My safety chain hooks on the bottom side of the reciever channel, which prevents mounting in that location. A trip to hardware store and under $10 sheet metal took care of this. Works great. Took a picture to give you a peek but having trouble downloading.
Very strong roller wheel that I attached to the back hitch receiver of my motorhome.
In the past I had experienced the back end of a travel trailer I owned that scraped
on the road when I went over some railroad tracks.
I am sure this product will prevent this from happening to my motorhome.
This is my second Steel Roller I have purchased rom E-Trailer. The first one I installed on my Motorhome to prevent hitch dragging while towing a small pickup truck with a tow bar. It works great!
This latest one, I installed under the Mobility Scooter Carrier at my Ford Edge's Hitch connection. It also does a fine job to keep the Carrier from scraping at low drainage or uneven pavement.
I highly recommend this product. {Nov. 2014}.
multi use. I built a motorcycle rack for the back of the RV that has a receiver on each frame rail to hold and support. I have added a drag wheel to each receiver as well as the back of the motorcycle rack. It holds a Honda 750 Nighthawk and has held up very well.
Excellent product to help protect your RV dragging it's rear end. My tow links are welded to the bottom of the hitch blocking it's installation. I have to have them removed and relocated so I can mount the device.
The skid wheel works but I guess I put too much weight on it or some dirt got inside the bearings as it stopped turning after the first few uses. It does still do what I need which is protect my trailer plug. I was surprised to get the email from etrailer a year later to see if I was happy with it. Overall the product works and the etrailer is easy to deal with.
The skid roller looks like the ticket to protect the hitch on the back of my 5th wheel. I am buying a second one for the extra carry when placed in the hitch. It has not been tested yet, 4 stars may go up or down in the future.
Do you have a question about this RV Skid Wheel?
