Video Transcript for Review of TowSmart Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Adjustable Ball Mount - TS74VR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this TowSmart adjustable aluminum tri-ball mount. Has a 12,000 pound maximum capacity. Now this is the ultimate ball mount for your towing journey. It'll offer three different size hitch balls to fit most trailer coupler sizes, and it is an adjustable ball mount, so it'll let you swap out those three different size hitch balls. The ball diameters it comes with is the 1 7/8 inch, the 2 inch, and the 2 5/16 inch diameter balls.

And the way you replace the ball out, it'll hold two of 'em. You can see a 2 inch and a 2 5/16. But if you wanted to swap out the two inch for the smaller 1 7/8 inch, it's pretty simple to do. I wanna demonstrate it. Basically, what you can do is you'll see the two pins right here that have slots in it, like for a screwdriver.

So I have a small screwdriver here. And what you'll do, they're spring-loaded pins. So you'll put your screwdriver in the slot, push it in, and then just twist it and it'll release the pin. It's spring-loaded and the pin comes right out. And then you notice the ball will come out and then you can swap in that ball, or you can swap in whichever size you need.

And then to put the ball back in, you'll just take it with the slot here and put that slot towards the shank. That'll line the hole up. Slide your pin all the way through, and then again, to block it, just push it. It's spring-loaded, and twist it and it locks it into place and you're ready to go. So pretty easy to switch the balls out to whatever size you need.

Now the height of it, you can see it has the holes here. It's an adjustable height to fit different trailer or truck heights. It'll offer a maximum drop is the position I have it in now, five and five eights inches maximum. So from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform, it'll drop the maximum 5 5/8 inches. If you flip this over and put it in the highest position, it'll get you a maximum rise of 6.5 inches. And these adjustable holes on the shank, they are in one inch increments center to center. This is made of a nice, super durable, lightweight and rustproof black anodized aluminum. The balls themselves you can see are a chrome-plated finish. And also, this will come with the two barrel-style 5/8 inch diameter locking pins to protect your setup from theft. I have it set up to where you can lock your ball mount right here to the shank or the channel mount, and then lock your channel mount to the hitch receiver if you prefer. It also comes with such a standard 5/8 inch diameter pin and clip. I mean, you could put the standard pin and clip up here and put the two locks in here, but I thought it'd be nicer to be able to lock this to your hitch receiver and then lock the ball mount to the channel mount. That's all included. Now, this shank on this one is designed to fit a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver. Now on the locks, they do offer a four inch span, in other words, and it comes with two sets of keys for each lock. So if you just remove the cover and then insert your key and then just turn it and you can pull the. Oops, put the key back in there. And then just turn it, pop that off, take your lockout. But basically, what I was saying was this offers a 4 inch span measured from here to here. So this pin will work on 2 inch, 2.5 inch and even 3 inch receivers. But to go to lock it, just slide it back through, put that on there, turn your key. And then remove it, put your cap on and then you're locked into place. The towing capacity. Now that will be determined by the hitch ball size that you use. So if you use the smaller 1 7/8 inch. And they are stamped. The capacity is stamped on the top. 1 7/8 inch is gonna get you a 5,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Two inch is gonna get you a 7,000 pound. or 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. And the larger 2 5/16 ball gets you a 12,000 pound capacity. Now one other thing I do wanna show you, if you notice, let me just zoom back out here. Comes with this nice hard plastic storage case. So instead of trying to carry all these parts around and might be losing them, you can put 'em all. This storage case has a spot for each piece so that it keeps it all in one spot. So what I'm gonna try do here is slide this over and I'm gonna demonstrate. We'll open the latches and you see how it's made for all the parts. Let me see if I can remember where these all go. So the extra ball goes right there. We're gonna go ahead and take out, take off the locks. And once we get our locks off, whoops. Here's our first lock. Go ahead and put it back on. And then we'll go ahead and take off our second lock. We'll go ahead and unlock that one. Slide that lock off. We'll put it back together. Put our locks. And then what we'll do is slide out the pin right here. And once we slide that pin out, we should be able to take this part out. So what we're gonna do. And you can see how lightweight they are. This part here should fit right in there. Our dual ball mount should go right in there. Our extra pin will go right down there and they do clip in to hold them into place. And the clip over here will snap into place. There's a spot for the two sets of keys right over there. And then these two, again, they'll snap right into place. Let's see where this one goes. This way it'll go that way and that way it'll go that way. And you can see they're all held in place so they don't bounce around. Close that up. And just like that, you have everything stored in a nice storage case that you can keep everything together. But that should do it for the review on this TowSmart adjustable aluminum tri-ball amount with the 12,000 pound maximum capacity.

Good quality construction........works great.

by:

Worked great

by:

Exactly what I wanted. Also I like the squared off end rather than the slant cut

by:

Seems solid, but I'm a little annoyed it doesn't come with a hitch pin. I just assumed it would, as that part doesn't really cost anything and is necessary for this to work.

by:

This worked well to get the kayak trailer to trim evenly when towing with my pickup truck. etrailer makes it easy to get what I need for my trailers.
