Wheel locks, also known as Denver boots, were introduced in the 1950s as a solution for police to immobilize vehicles for ticketing purposes. While they're still used for that purpose in some places, you may want one to make would-be thieves think twice about stealing your trailer. Someone could still break into your trailer if it's not fully secured, but without the key and crank, no one is moving your rig with this wheel lock installed.
If you've never mounted one of these wheel locks before, it may take a little time to get used to the process. This lock weighs 17 pounds, which is lighter than it looks, but some people may have a hard time holding it up while installing. Because this lock can be a bit of a pain to install, it's probably not the kind of thing you want to clamp on every time you stop somewhere along your journeys, but it'll be perfect for slapping on once you're back home and ready to store your trailer.
To mount the wheel lock, unlock the adjustment covers near the handle and on the disc arm. There's a triangular keyhole inside each where the crank tool can be inserted.
Starting with the crank in the hole near the handle, rotate the tool counterclockwise to open the arms. Place the lock around your wheel, then use the crank to tighten the arms down by turning it clockwise. You should only tighten the arms a bit at first, then get the disc situated over your wheel's lug nuts. Insert the crank into the disc arm hole and and turn it clockwise to tighten the disc arm, then finish tightening the lock's arms.
Once you lock the adjustment covers back in place, you're ready to go! Store the crank inside your vehicle or toolbox until you need it to remove the lock.

Ideal for trailer storage, but works with some vehicles too. This is a straight up great product. I use it exclusively on my work trailers. Easy to apply, easy to remove and the high visibility I think is a good deterrent to potential criminals.
I tried to install on the right side of the trailer. Where it was parked there was not enough room between the ground and the trailer. The lug nut cover would contact the hub and not allow the tire clamp to tighten. I then tried the left wheel. The bolt and nut would contact the hub and could damage the dust cover. I replaced the nut that came with the lock with a carriage bolt the head inside the dish and the nut in the clamp. This gave me enough clearance to avoid damage to the dust cover. The lug nuts weren't totally covered but no one could get a wrench in to remove them and the tire. The clamp did secure the trailer
Trailer sent the item to me very quickly. I put this on a overland teailer with 33" wheels and it fit perfectly. I would recommend the Trimax adjustable wheel lock 10"-18". It seems very secure and well built.
So far, so good. I have the guys coming over today. We're going to go ahead and open it up and check the package and everything. But everything was delivered on time. I appreciate it
less than 60 sec to defeat
With all the theft these days I added this product as another deterrent to keep my stuff from being stolen. Only took about 5 minutes to put on and seems pretty solid! Would recommend to others

These Tri-max boots start to show their age after a couple years. The barrel lock mechanism and cam device to open the access door for the specialty key are prone to fail. As these fail we are replacing with something else. PS: At $250 apop these shouldnt ever fail..
