The controls on the BRAKE-EVN are elegantly simple and user-friendly. Use the clearly-marked push-buttons to change the level of gain or boost. Gain lets you set the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. Typically, the gain (also known as output) is only readjusted when you experience changing road conditions or if the weight of your trailer changes.
The Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN also features a large LED display that's easy to see so you can check on your current gain setting with a glance, as well as diagnostic information.
The boost setting controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the maximum braking level. You can adjust this when you're towing heavy loads and you need more umph to bring your trailer to a stop. Your tow vehicle doesn't need that much power to brake in time, but your heavy trailer does.
Depending on the level of boost, your trailer brakes can start at either 13 percent or 25 percent of the set braking output. What this means is that, instead of starting at 0, the brakes will start at 25 percent and get to 100 percent sooner. This keeps the trailer from pushing your tow vehicle forward.
If your trailer weighs less than your tow vehicle, no boost is needed. But, if you want your trailer to lead the braking, you can select level B1.

*Both B2 and B3 offer a 25-percent boost in initial power. But the braking curve for B3 is more aggressive than that of B2. This means that, even though you will start out with the same intensity when using these boost levels, you will get an overall more aggressive braking experience with the higher level. So if you use B3, you will reach maximum braking sooner than if you use B2.
To adjust the boost, use the blue push-buttons on the top of the BRAKE-EVN.
The self-leveling feature of the BRAKE-EVN ensures that the brake controller continues to function even as you drive up steep hills or through the mountains. You can mount it at any vertical angle, and the controller will level itself automatically. But keep in mind that the BRAKE-EVN must be horizontally level and parallel with the direction of travel to work correctly.
Installation of the BRAKE-EVN requires that you either purchase a custom wiring adapter designed to plug into the controller, or that you hardwire the controller directly into your vehicle. To hardwire the controller, you must remove the plug at the end of the integrated wiring harness.
Installation Accessories
For an even easier installation, a vehicle-specific specific wiring adapter (sold separately) is available for most newer trucks and SUVs. One end of the custom adapter plugs into your vehicle, and the other end plugs into the controller - no hardwiring required.

Note: If a custom brake control wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, one of the following will be required:
20-Amp circuit breaker (9506P - sold separately) for 2- to 4-brake applications
30-Amp circuit breaker (38630 - sold separately) for 6- to 8-brake applications
The Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN brake controller comes equipped with proportional braking to give you the best towing experience. Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.
The BRAKE-EVN uses an internal inertia sensor to detect how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

We used this to pull an 18 foot camper through 3 states and back home again. Then we pulled the camper the following year through 2 states and back home again. Steep hills and mountains and hairpin turns were part of our route and this brake controller worked perfectly. Braking was easy and smoothe. Pulling vehicle was a 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5.
Poor value and customer service. You sold me a brake controller that does not fit the car's plug. You don't have an adapter, so I have a worthless item. You want me to pay the return postage. This will be my last order with e-trailer.

Hey Pam. Some vehicles are equipped with a plug under the dash area. I looked into your vehicle and it looks like your specific vehicle does not have that feature. Since there isn't one available, you would need to get # ETBC7 to complete the install.
Installation was straightforward and worked well. I am a believer in electric brake controllers!
Simple set up and works great. The eTrailer team was super helpful (as always!) in helping me pair this with the connection I already had.

This brake controller works very well. It provides smooth braking and it is easy to adjust. The first unit that we received died as soon as we tested the manual braking lever. etrailer's customer service was incredibly helpful and efficient getting us a replacement in coordination with Tekonsha technical support. That kind of customer service is hard to find. One year after purchase this unit is working well. It was a great value.
Work super good for my trailer. Singe axle 12 footer for a light weight truck
Insulation was easy and the unit looks good installed. I have not used it pulling a trailer, so I can’t speak to the operation, yet.

The wiring adapter connected properly to my truck's factory, wiring adapter for electric trailer brake controller. It also subsequently connected properly to the Tekonsha Brake EVN electric brake controller I also purchased from etrailer. Everything worked properly towing my trailer.
Very easy to install and works well to break trailer in conjunction with my vehicles brakes.
Just installed but nice compact unit.

Works well
During conversion of the 2011 F150 from factory flat-4 to 7-blade, I had already wired for a brake controller, so installation was very simple. I've only towed once since installation, but initial setup was easy and it brakes very smoothly. Great product.
Arrived on time, actually earlier than promised and was a replacement for another controller. Just plugged it in. These controllers work great on an air brake truck
Wasn't too happy with this unit as it went bad with an (ER) code in less than two months.....Return paid was not happy but We have a new replacement from E-trailer now
Have bought several items from etrailer and all have shipped fast and been exactly what I wanted.
Great unit. Was a plug and play on my 99 F250.
Easy to install haven't used it yet will update one we start hauling our equipment

Tekonsha brake controller continues to work perfectly. Easily manually adjusts to breaking needs. Our son pulled a 20 foot enclosed trailer on a moving job with no problems at all. Breaking was smooth.tow vehicle 22 Tacoma SR5
