Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Replacement Aeroblade Shim for Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at this replacement part for your Thule Hullavator. Now this goes to the Thule Hullavator that's a little bit earlier style. It's going to be part number 897XT. So you want to make sure that's the Hullavator that you're using. If it's the newer one, this is not the adapter that goes with that.

It's going to look a little bit different for the updated one.Thule usually has a sticker on their products with that part number. So check that, make sure that's the part number that you need, that 897XT. And this should be the one that you need to get it attached to your T-slot on your AeroBlade bars. So let's take a closer look. Talk a little bit more about where this is going to go and how it installs.

So the curve portion is going to go underneath the bracket that attaches it to your bar. There's typically that bracket that goes around and would fit around the square bars, but this adapts it to go into the T-slot on your AeroBlade bars. Now, when that Hullavator was made, there was only the AeroBlade, but now there's the WingBar Evo and other manufacturers make AeroBlades as well.So it should fit in those two. That slide is pretty universal and that's where this is going to fit in. It's just going to kind of slide into that slot and keep it from turning or moving to.

Attach this, you will still need the M6 by 12 bolt to go through and a flat washer underneath the head of that bolt. And it's going to go into the square nuts that fits into that T-slot on your T-slot bar on your AeroBlade style bar. So I hope that helps figuring out where exactly this goes. You do need two of these per load bar. So one for either end of each part of the carrier. So for a complete kit, if you lost all of these, you would need four in total.

This does just come as a single part. So again, if you need more than one or if you lost both, you'll need some additional part numbers. There is an instruction link at our website here at etrailer.com to make sure that you can figure out where this goes. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right replacement part for you. We do have a lot of other replacement parts for all kinds of Thule stuff and other manufacturers, and all kinds of things. So check them out right here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

The shims work fine but working out how they fit was difficult. The video you created was not much help either and the photo contributed by a user is totally in correct
My photos show what I hope is the correct way as the brackets are tight to the aero bar .
1-be sure ther aero bars are mounted with the flat edge forward!
2. The shim is mounted with the curve DOWN and on the forward flat edge above the square nut.square nut in the grove the shim needs to be floating on to of the rail.
3 a 1” barrel bolt is needed that firs the square nut
4 when inserting the

I am happy the product. It did successfully install & make my 879xt's compatible with "Thule wingbar's evo roofrack"! I provided a picture of how the part installed to assist others.

-Things to note:

-The "cradles" do not mount centered over bars with "shims"... they will be either ahead, or behind the bars.

- These are plastic and hold lots of pressure, & I do worry about durability.

- You must use the M6*16 bots that come with the Hullavator 879xt. I assume the person in the video misspoke and meant M6x16 because M6x12 bolts (mentioned in instruction video) DO NOT come with hullavator 879xt.

-"Shim" adaptors did not come with directions and the provided video was not the best guide for the install.

I hope this review and picture helps others find what they need!

This shim will not work for Wing aero EVO as it said. The mounting bracket does not line up with the track as the mounting holes are opposing. The picture shows a possible mounting scenario but only if the holes are on the same side of the Hullavator base.

Not impressed at all, 1st you need four(4 ) of these. 2nd they're plastic, 3rd they're not cheap $[XX] EACH....Plus shipping, I'll be returning these.
I realize of course this product is of no fault of etrailer

I'm waiting for the fit kit for another car to put up my hullavator

Took about 17 days for the Hullavator parts to arrive, but they did arrive. Can't wait to go out and use it.

  • Adapters for Thule Hullavator to Fit Top Channel of Crossbars
For you older version of the Thule Hullavator 897XT the only way to attach it to the top channel of aero bars is with the part # TH56JV. The # TH24BH is the channel adapter for the current version of the Hullavator part # TH898.

  • How to Install the Replacement Aeroblad Shim for Older Thule Hullavators on an Aero Bar
We do not have any photos or visuals on how the Replacement Aeroblade Shim for Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier, part # TH56JV, attaches, but I can explain it for you. The curved portion is meant to attach upward into the bottom of your older Hullavator where the mounting portion of the older adapter would. The two straight edges underneath the adapter are then meant to mount into the T-slot of your aero bars. The M6 bolt will go through the hole with a washer between its head and the top...

  • Will Thule Hullavator Work With Thule ProBar Evo Crossbars
I have a replacement option for you, but I reached out to my contact at Thule and he confirmed that the older Thule Hullavator 897XT you have will unfortunately not fit your new Thule ProBar Evo Crossbars # TH713600. He mentioned that unfortunately the Shim # TH56JV you mentioned will not allow the 897XT to work on your crossbars. Instead I recommend selling your current Hullavators and replacing them with the new Thule Hullavator # TH898 as it will slide into the t-track channels on your...

  • Can The Thule 897xt Hullavator Be Mounted To Yakima HD Crossbars?
Hello Kelley. It is possible to mount the old Thule 897xt Hullavator to the T-channel on the Yakima HD bars. To do this you will need to use the Replacement Aeroblade Shims for Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier # TH56JV. You will need four total.

  • Can the Thule OutWay Platform 2-Bike Rack Be Used with Carbon Fiber Frame Bikes
The Thule OutWay 2-Bike Rack part # TH45JV contains an updated cradling system with road dampening technology which as the name states reduced shocks and vibrations transferred to the bike while traveling down the road therefore is suited for use on bikes with a carbon fiber frame and there will be no issues with paint chipping. To be extra safe, I would suggest adding the Thule Carbon Bike Frame Protector # TH984101 for another layer of protection. In regards to weight, this is 33 lbs...

Hey Fabien! We have a way to mount your older Hullavator TH897xt to your new Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars item # TH711320. It is the Replacement Aeroblade Shim for Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier item # TH56JV. However, you are going to need to source the square nuts somewhere else because we do not have them anymore.

  • Does Thule Shim # TH56JV Fit Thule Hullavator TH898
The shims you referenced are actually for the older version of the Thule Hullavator but for your # TH898 the shims part # TH56JV are not for your version and aren't needed actually.

  • Thule Hullavator 897 And Hullavator 897XT Compatibility Issues
The brackets on the Thule Hullavator 897 and the Thule Hullavator 897XT are not the same. The first generation Hullavator was designed to only work with Thule square bars, so it will not work with your Thule WingBar Evo. The updated model, 897XT, was designed to work with square and elliptical shaped crossbars. If you have the correctly shaped bracket you will be able to mount your Thule Hullavator 897 to your Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars - Aluminum - Silver - 53" Long - Qty 2, part # TH711400....

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Fat Tire Bikes on 2014 Toyota Camry
The Thule OutWay 2-Bike Platform Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # TH65JV is not compatible with your 4 inch wide fat tires. There is not currently an adapter to make it compatible. Because your Salsa Bucksaw full suspension bike has a carbon fiber frame, I recommend adding a trailer hitch receiver like # 36540 and then adding a platform bike rack that mounts to the wheels. I've attached a video of the installation of the Draw-Tite trailer hitch to assist. Then for your bike...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2007 Subaru Outback Wagon
The 2007 Subaru Outback Wagon cannot accept a trunk mount bike rack because of the spoiler. It will interfere with the safe installation of a bike rack. I recommend using a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike rack. For your Outback, you can use trailer hitch # 75560 (excludes Sport models). I have included links to the instructions and a video showing installation. For a bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Trailhead, # S63365. It comes with anti-sway cradles and an integrated cable lock....

  • Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2012 Mercedes C-Class Sedan
I checked with Thule and the Thule OutWay Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier # TH65JV has been confirmed to fit your 2012 Mercedes C-Class Sedan, however this rack is better suited for vehicles with metal bumpers and in the past has left dents on vehicles because of its weight. I would strongly recommend you go with a Thule OutWay 2 Bike Carrier # TH45JV as this rack does not have this reputation at all and is one of the best trunk mounted bike racks on the market because of how easy it is...
