An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Was able to install these with a 15mm flex head ratchet wrench and lifted the rear of the truck to make it easier. 30 minutes to take off 4 nuts and put em back on. 2 minutes assembling the timbrens with the added spacer. I have a f350 with a salter and plow. Loaded with salt the lights shoot up and in the snow ?? it’s like hitting hyper drive and you’re blinded. These helped big time. Very happy so far.

it has done just what I needed it to do, make the rear not sag when loaded with salt. It also has helped when pulling trailers and using the gooseneck trailer.

@Michael Great to hear! I also enjoy using these on my truck; helps with the squat when pulling my car hauler :)

by:

These are great, put 1500 # of bagged concrete in truck
They just were touching the stop bar, stability was what I expected
Can’t wait to our RV hooked up and hit the road
Took as long to set up the jack as to install these load stabilizer items

2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Haven’t hauled my 5th wheel yet so will have to update once i have.
Package arrived promptly, installed in my garage in about 40 minutes with absolute minimal swearing. Installation would have been quicker if I hadn’t wasted time figuring out that my brand new Ford F250 has metric nuts. Great fit, great follow up from the company. I’ll be doing more business with them.

Very satisfied. So happy that I took the advice of your representative in the live chat feature of your website, I was ready to spend the money on an air bag system.

by:

Works good, as long as you are on smooth roads. Once you hit potholes or cracked/segmented concrete interstates (fully loaded or empty), you will wish you had gotten air bags and a sway bar instead. Installed exactly as directed 1" clearance on axel. Empty: it smacks the axel on potholes or expansion cracks. Loaded: it has just no suspention travel, like riding on bump stops.

2024 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Next to worthless. I have a inquiry in to Timbren. Installed these today. With the spacer installed there is 2 1/2" from bottom of the Timbren to the top of the axle. Didn't have much choice so I tried it out. With a 5k truck camper in the back they are barely engaged. Took about 1/4" squat out of the truck. It did take a little sway out of the back but the claim that it eliminates sag is a joke. Maybe their measurements are not correct yet. Hoping for a better solution than I just burnt $400

by:
2016 Nissan Sentra

They may be a great product but they did not work on my 22 f350. Even with the spacers provided they would not make contact with the trucks axle even with a heavy slide in camper. If I am going to keep them I’ll have to make welding modifications to extend the bracket so it will work on my truck model pictures with and without the camper loaded.

I would like to update my review to say that Timbren came through and made my application work by sending me the right parts so my truck doesn’t squat and it handles my truck camper much better. Timbren has great customer service

I see what youre saying here. From the photos, it looks like you have everything set up the way it should be. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Never mess with airbags again on your truck. These Timbren bump stops are the only way to go. Installation took a total of 10 minutes and they work amazing. No messing with airlines, filling or deflating air bags with complicated installation. I’m towing a 44ft trailer and these Timbren bumps stops are a must. Great product but a little pricey for what they are.

Brandon

After a year of towing some kind of trailer every week, the bump stops are showing some wear from riding on the bump stop pad on the axle. That being said, they are still working as intended and as good as the day I installed them. After a lot of miles, the only draw back is driving around with no trailer. Normal driving the ride isn’t effected but when you hit a bump in the road you really feel it hit the bump stop. You loose a fair amount of rear suspension travel with these but I’m used to it now.

by:

Very simple to remove and install. I took all of 15 minutes without even removing the wheels

by:

It has been great. No bottoming out over rough road when loaded heavy. Also smoother cornering when loaded heavy.

Holding up good, no noticeable wear or damage. Still helps handle heavy loads though canyon roads.

Installed on my 2021 Super Duty Tremor that i use to tow my 11k pound 5er. Used the 1” shims to have the entire assembly 1” from the top of the axle. Truck now squats about an inch when connected to the 5er, squatted about 3” previously. Much firmer and less bouncy while towing; truck rides dead level down the road. 30 minute install - needed a 15mm and 17mm deep socket to get it done. Extremely pleased and highly recommend as a much less expensive alternate to air bags.

by:

It rides like you welded the axle to the frame I would highly recomend air bags instead over this product I have had many air bag sets on my trucks over the years ordered through e trailer and have never been disapointed. Far from like riding on pillows as video states. I just ordered a set of airbags from e trailer to replace these so hopefully I can get a refund.

by:
Ford F-350 Super Duty

I have a 22 F-350 with a slide in truck camper. The Timbrens were easy to install and reduced the sag by two inches, however, the ride was not tolerable. I gave the rating three stars based on this. I replaced the Timbrens after three months of use with airbags which provide better ride tuning capabilities.

by:

The suspension upgrade made a world of difference with regards to stability while traveling with my lance 650 truck camper

2017 Toyota Camry

Got to my house when I was told they would. Put these on a 2017 F350 Dually that I turned into a tow truck. Took about 5 minutes to put them on and the truck is completely different when towing. I towed my 2012 F350 before and after and it’s literally a night and day difference. Before, I felt like I was going to skate across the road and now it’s like there’s a little Toyota Camry on the back. I didn’t put the extra inch spacer because I was worried about ride quality, however I think I will in the future just so I feel better. My truck does still squat, however my application is completely different than pulling a normal trailer being that I do have an entire vehicle added directly to my truck’s suspension.Didn’t get any befores of me lifting the exact same vehicles, but it’s definitely different. I probably will add small helper springs later just being that I do constantly have a load as my lift on my truck weighs 1800lbs. alone.

by:
2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Access on 2020 f350 to remove and install was a breeze.A 15 mm ratchet wrench was all that was needed

by:
2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Both sides in 20 min with air tools. Have 5th wheel (2500 hitch weight) and made the 17 F250 sag a little. This will help. Now my sticking point is price. Feel like I got ripped off seeing these rubber Kong dog toys that I paid Guess no different than paying $50 for under armor $20 sweat pants. OK, complaining over and would I buy them again? Yes with a coupon.

by:

Great product and easy installation. In my use better than air bags.

by:

It is a great upgrade. It rides great. A little stiff empty but I need that was going to be the case. Great product and would recommend it.

by:

2nd set for a 2nd truck. The first was fantastic. Easy to put on, and works great!

by:

Love this product. Very durable and does the job. Our guys love it.

by:

This looks like a very good addition to our truck.

by:

I have had the Timbren jounce bumpers on my truck for a year and have a truck camper on for most of that time and these things are great. I was worried about sway while also towing a boat and the bumpers exceeded my expectations by a bunch. So easy to install and what a stable ride! My fellow truck campers spent $100’s on air suspension and are blown away when I take them for a ride in my rig. They all feel they over spent! Great products from e trailer every time. I also have the frame mounted tie downs and together my rig feels safe and stable even in tight mountain roads. You can’t go wrong with these products!!!

2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I own a F250 super duty. Just purchased a 37’ toy hauler. Empty my truck is 43” to the bottom of the fender well. My new trailer is 2350lbs on the pin which dropped my truck to 40.5”. I installed my new Timbren suspension system now my truck only drops 1”. Extremely easy to install and I have nothing negative to say well worth the money. Thank you

There are two Timbren systems for your 2023 Ford F-350, like you said, with the best definitely being the following part number: - Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # TFR350SDJ The reason for that is the # TFR350SDJ is designed for standard pickups while the other kit, part # TFRTT350J, is designed for service vehicles like a salt spreader, for example. • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2023 Ford F-350 Towing Fifth Wheel
When people are looking for suspension enhancement for their trucks like your 2023 Ford F-350 I generally don't like to recommend Timbrens unless the vehicle is going to be basically towing heavy all of the time as they are known to make the ride quality pretty harsh. • 2024 Ford F-450 Super Duty Timbren Suspension Enhancement Kit Recommendation
I recommend going with the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # TFRSDJ for your 2024 Ford F-450 Super Duty because it's designed better for pickup truck-type applications. The other Timbren kit # TFRTT350J is designed more for Severe Service vehicles like that will have more constant heavy loads in them (like a slide-in camper, salt spreader, or crane) so if your F-450 is only going to be used like a pickup then the first kit is what you want to use. • Height of Timbren SES TFR250SDJ
Hi Dana; the Timbren # TFR250SDJ are 6-7/8" tall including the mounting bracket. I see you went ahead and ordered the # TFRTT350J instead. Just a heads up, this is the severe service kit so it is designed for a constant heavy load like a slide-in camper or salt spreader. If your truck won't be hauling something like that most of the time I recommend switching to the # TFR250SDJ so you don't end up with a super rough ride.
