Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit RP56009 Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to take a look at the Reese quick install custom outboard brackets for fifth wheel trailer hitches. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit a 2014 and newer Dodge Ram and Ram 2500 short bed and long bed trucks without the factory rail kit, and on a custom fit part, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year, model, vehicle, and it will show if this will work for your application. Now, these installation brackets will mount beneath your truck bed. They provide you attachment points for your fifth wheel rails. Now, these do use the extended length base rails, part number RP30153, that we do sell separately on our website. The rails are designed to sit in the truck bed, and they allow the installation of your fifth wheel trailer hitch to your truck. Now, these are custom outboard brackets so they mount to existing holes in your vehicle's frame.

This will minimize drilling and measuring, and it cuts down your installation time by more than half compared with the universal bracket systems. The hardware for installing these brackets to the frame is all included with a nice set of detailed instructions, and these are a sturdy, black powder coated steel to help resist corrosion. That should do it for the review on the Reese quick install custom outboard brackets for fifth wheel trailer hitches.

Seems quite robust and able to handle the weight of a 5th wheel. Fits my long bed, crew cab, 2017 Ram 2500 and the 48" hitch rails as promised. Installation was straight forward, although working around the trucks fuel tank and wiring for the front left bracket was a bit of a pain. Was able to access all nuts for the carriage bolts through the wheel well by removing the two screws that attach the wheel well liner to the frame.

I would recommend grinding a notch in the starting threads of the bolts that go into the truck frame to clean out any dirt, debris, or undercoating to make installing them easier.

Only complaint is that the included extra long bolts are hex head rather than carriage bolts that would match the others that are visible from inside the bed.

I love E-trailer. Always have what I need and fast service.

by:

Great product & easy install!

by:

Upgraded my truck to a 2019 F250 Superduty. Received my new rail kit and mounting brackets. Fits perfect!

by:

This did not fit my truck right. Front brackets fit fine. The rear brackets lined up with all the holes but the chassis strap brackets are wrong. The spacers are also too short. Contacted e trailer. They checked inventory said their boxes were all wrong also. They contacted the mfg and i waited a month only to get a box of bolts and spacers and no straps. Had to have some fabbed locally. This is for my 2024 silverado 2500 custom.

by:

Excellent parts and easy to install, had no problem at all mounting everything to my F-250 8' bed.

by:

Instructions not clear enough/descriptive. Took 4 hours for my mechanic to install. would have been much simpler to loosen and lift box instead of taking everything apart as per instructions. Product seems good will know how it works after hitching up trailer.

by:

Five hours to install; which included a half hour searching for the key to the padlock on my spare. E-Trailer linked me to an installation video which really helped. I took my time and measured three times before I drilled the bed. Installation is a lot easier with someone to hold the bolts from the top. I fabricated mounting brackets on my last truck, but these were worth the money and I didn't have to drill the frame! Good design and straight-forward installation. My only issue was the video didn't show one bolt install that secured the driver's side rear bracket to the bottom of the frame. I was going off the video only and wasn't using the written instructions. Make sure you go step by step using both. Also, some parts are clearly for a different application so there will be a few parts left over. My experience with e-trailer was awesome.

We ordered a bracket kit for our new 2017 F350. It was needed to install our Reese fifth wheel. which we use to pull our RV. Product was on back order by manufacturer, however Delisa at Etrailer diligently kept us very informed with updates & shipping status. My husband & son were able to install in a couple of hours. Looks great, outstanding craftsmanship & over exceeded our expectations! We would highly recommend!!!!!

by:

Very happy how soon the product I ordered was at my door step. 3 days after I ordered it. Put the base to my 5th wheel on my 2017 250 diesel sd took me around 5 hrs, would have been faster with 2 people. The base fit my husky 16k prefect when I done torquing all the bolts. Going to use this hitch to pull my 29.5 Durango EZ 1500.

by:

Customer service was excellent she did extensive research on all available products until she found the best fit for my vehicle. They also made sure the package was shipped out right away and I received it 2 days earlier than expected

by:

They fit truck just like they were supposed too. Couple hr install with having to remove spare tire and heat shields to get access to bolt locations. Been supporting fifth wheel through thousands of miles. Thanks for helping me find right product for my truck!

by:

Installing 2017 5th wheel brackets and rails . Thankyou for your service in sending me the right parts for my F250 . Took about 4 hrs to install and all holes were perfect in the side brackets . Just had to drill for the rail. I’d recommend your service...

by:

Used it 3 times so far, does what it’s supposed to, the brackets fit the frame very good. Very happy with the setup.

by:

Installation was good and very happy. Thank you

by:

Very easy to install. Measure twice, drill once. I used every piece of galvanic corrosion tape to protect the aluminum bed in the kit, probably could have used a little more. Even though I painted the edge of the holes after drilling, maybe some sort of insulator could be used there also.

by:

I did not use this item in my institution and was returned because I had the bed replaced with a flat bed and they used the factory placed holes in their insulation. Designed new attachment plates and had them fabricated in a local machine shop, attached using 3 half inch harder bolts each and all is working well.

by:

What an interesting product to install. The mounting to the frame is easy. Getting the bolts through the bed and putting the nuts and washers on the bottom take a lot of patience. There is not a lot of room for your hands to fit between the bed and the frame. I took my spare tire down and I was able to sit under my truck that helped a lot.

The brackets arrived in a timely manner. etrailer had a short video which assured potential customers that the brackets would bolt on to my year Toyota but because I have an 8-ft bed and was reusing my existing hitch and rails, I still needed assurance the brackets would work for me. I corresponded by e-mail with etrailer on this question. The etrailer representative I was in contact with requested additional information about my specific hitch and rails which I provided and etrailer confirmed the brackets would work for me. This all happened in a matter of hours. etrailer gave very prompt, accurate service. I attached the brackets, both front and back, and followed the instructions on where to drill through the bed for the rearward brackets and the drill holes in the bed were aligned perfectly with my old rails. The same held true for the front brackets...although I had not cinched them down as they are somewhat (1/2 inch perhaps) moveable. I installed both rails with the hitch in place and torqued the rails down. then torqued the front brackets down. Clearances due to the frame members prevent getting a torque wrench on the front bracket bolts so I just tightened them as much as possible. One person can install the brackets to the frame. It takes two persons to install and tighten the rail bolts. All in all, service was good and the product was good.

by:

Fits great and works well on my 2005 Sierra 1500 ( 5 1/2 )short bed.

by:

Still waiting for my package that was supposed to be here yesterday. It's been bouncing around 2 states clear on the other end of the country. I'll change my review if it ever shows up at my door.

These Brackets Installed quick and very little trouble.Very Happy

by:

The kit arrived within a few days-very happy about that. very easy to install. the directions were clear and pictures good. I went to the trouble of using a sharpie to mark the part numbers on everything before I started just to keep to all straight.

I would note that on the 2017 F350 diesel the only problem bolt was on the driver side inline with the DEF tank. long skinny arms with flexible wrist is ideal (not what I have). I would also suggest taping the shims onto the outboard frame brackets to save yourself some frustrations. otherwise they are difficult to get and keep in place, especially on the driver side.

the two nuts that go inside the frame tube come on/with a nice handle although a bit light on the wield. here again save yourself and tape the shims on before you try to insert two things into that hole, align and fasten the bolt-by yourself. I used an extension with wobble head and socket to turn the bolt while holding the nut "assembly" in place.

I did remove the rear wheels and fender well liner-a must.

Lastly, great customer service on the phone. Pleasant and patient answering questions.

It was great to be able to adapt the 16K hitch purchased just a couple of years age for my Dodge Ram pickup to my new Ford F250. The brackets used the existing frame mounts and no holes had to be drilled in the frame. It was a bit of work to drill the bed floor holes, but the kit came with accurate instructions and the plastic galvanic corrosion protection and all mounting bolts for the aluminum body. Extra work required because the full plastic bed liner had to be notched so the tracks would bolt directly to the bed.

  • Hardware for 2015 Ram 2500 5th Wheel Rails
The parts you referenced for your 2015 Ram 2500, # RP50054 Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit and # RP58430 Replacement Hardware Kit, are both a fit for the 43 inch Reese rails # RP58058. I contacted the manufacturer and the cylindrical spacers you are referring to are included in the # RP50054 kit. I'd recommend you double-check the base rails and frame brackets to make sure they are the same manufacturer. It is not recommended to mix brands between the base rails and frame brackets.

  • Installing 5th Wheel Hitch Base Rails in 2015 Ram 2500 With and Without Factory Prep Package
If your 2015 Ram 2500 with 6-foot bed has the factory 5th wheel prep package you can install any industry-standard 5th wheel hitch by using the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter # RP30154. This adapter drops into the factory pucks in the bed and provides the equivalent of standard 5th wheel base rails that will accept most industry-standard sliders like Curt # C16560. If the truck does not have the factory puck system and you want to re-use your existing 5th wheel base rails you can use Reese...

  • Base Rail Brackets Needed for Installing Outboard Base Rails on a 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500
I do have custom outboard brackets for your 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500, but the brackets kit # RP56009 that you referenced is not the correct kit. Instead you will want the kit part # RP56011 to use with your Universal Outboard Base Rails # RP30153. The brackets come with hardware, but if you don't have new hardware for your base rails (as hardware is only supposed to be torqued down once) you will need the Replacement Hardware Kit # RP58504 as well. You can get the entire bracket kit for your truck, but it comes as a set with four brackets and front and rear brackets by themselves are not available individually, it does require getting the whole set. • Replacement Brackets and Hardware for Reese Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch
If your rails are Reese rails then the install bracket kit you need is # RP50054 for inboard brackets and kit # RP56009 if you have outboard brackets. The Reese fifth wheel rail kit part # RP56001-53 that you had installed on your 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD would not fit a 2018 Ram 2500 as they are totally different trucks. The brackets, # RP56009, are designed for the new, longer rails # RP30153, so they would not work together but there is something that will work. For your 2016 Ram 2500 short bed the Reese bracket kit part # RP56009 is the correct fit.
