This shank was purchased to pull a 37-foot, 9800-lb. conventional travel trailer. Absolutely no problem for this robust Reese shank.

by:

I purchased this as a replacement for the other Reese shank in the picture. I wanted the longer one but the WD head holes are set back a 1 1/4” vice the more nominal 1”. This slight 1/4” difference kept the Equalizer 12k head from pivoting and the lack of a solid face does not have a place for the adjustment bolt to push on. This one has 9 1/2” distance from the receiver pin to center of the riser arm. Many are only 8” , so the additional 1 1/2” allowed for enough clearance for the tailgate to lie flat and has a solid face. I’m happy with this one.

by:

Lighter weight than my earlier shank, and the height of the hitch is much better. The connection to my Airstream trailer works better, no longer screeching, and the trailer is much more horizontal. The shank no longer is subject to occasional digging into the ground or scratching across a speed bump.

The Reese shank that I bought last year and have been using has been great. This summer I had a new hitch receiver installed on my Ram 1500, which lowered the receiver somewhat. Because of this, I flipped the new shank, so my hitch is better positioned. This shank is much lighter weight than shank I used in the past, and which was unsuitable to flip over because it was too long to use with its vertical part pointing up.

by:

This drop shank does exactly what it's supposed to do. I have a 2015 Nissan Titan and a 2016 Airstream. Airstreams are low profile, modern pickup trucks sit high. I had to replace the shank that came with a Reese hitch in order to level the airstream behind the Titan. This one is JUST long enough. Have had several thousand miles of problem-free towing.

by:

Flipping my shank over in the raised position made my ball too high and having it down made it to low. This shank was perfect as I could raise my ball just one more hole because of how this one is more of a T-shape versus an L, thus it has one more hole that I can raise my ball without flipping the shank over. It has worked out perfectly.

  • Is the Reese Weight Distribution Shank Only For Weight Distribution
The Reese Weight Distribution Shank - 16,000 lbs # RP54998 is typically used for a weight distribution system. It can, however, be used as a ball mount. This shank style would work with the Replacement Hitch Ball Platform for Pro Series Adjustable 3-Ball Mount - 14K # PS63075 which would make it an adjustable ball mount similar to the Pro Series Adjustable 3-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 4-3/4" Drop, 5-11/16" Rise - 14K # 63070.

  • Would Using an Appropriately Rated Weight Distribution System Help With Sway Control
It would be beneficial to have a weight destitution system that can handle the load you are pulling. The Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C69JR you are currently using is only rated for up to 1,000 lbs. of tongue weight, which you are exceding. I would recommend a system like the Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # RP66075 which fits tongue weights between 1,100 and 1,700 lbs. This does not include a shank or ball, which are available separately. -...

  • Can a Different Shank be Used with Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System
You do not need to use the specific shank that is included with the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66561 referenced in your question. Many weight distribution shanks will be interchangeable with the Reese system. You will just want to match the vertical groove style of the included shank such as with the Reese # RP54998. I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of weight distribution shanks as well as an article that will help...

The Pro Series Adjustable Pintle Hook Mounting Plate for 2" Hitches - 14K lbs # 63072 has a measurement from the front of the mounting plate to the center of the hitch pin hole of 9-11/16 inches. It sounds like you are wanting to know the backing of that front plats which will be at about 3/4 inches shorter. If you are seeking the measurement from the hitch pin hole to the back of the shank for clearance used in the rise position, it is 6-3/4 inches. I've attached a video to help with...

Thanks for the picture! That's a large drop you are needing. I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank - 12" Long - 15-3/4" or 16-1/4" Drop - 1,500 lbs TW item # C17125. The Curt shank is compatible with your Reese weight distribution system. I have attached a diagram detailing the dimensions of this shank so you can confirm you need one with this big of a drop.

  • Is Trailer Ball Platform on Fastway FA49-00-5625 Sold Separately
It sounds like you're looking for something like the Pro Series # PS63076. It's designed to be a replacement for the # 63071, but it will work with Reese or Pro Series weight distribution shanks like # RP54998 that have grooves cast into the shank's upright. If the shank you currently have does not have the grooves, unfortunately we don't have a ball platform that would work.

  • Replacement Weight Distribution Shank and Trunnion Bars for Trailer with 1,700 lb Spring Bars
For a Reese shank that has a 1,600 lb tongue weight capacity that should work great you would want the part # RP54998. Since your tongue weight is around 1,500 lbs you would want to go with the 1,700 lb trunnion bars part # 66010. These have the curved ends that will work with the Straitline system you have as well.

  • Weight Distribution Hitch With Sway Control for 1,400 lb Tongue Weight
Adding air bags won't remove tongue weight or stress from the weight distribution system, and since there are no bars rated for nearly 1,500 lbs of tongue weight from Fastway, it does mean you need to upgrade to a more robust weight distribution system. For approximately 1,500 lbs of tongue weight, if you liked your Fastway system you can get one from the same manufacturer, Equal-i-zer. This system is like the Fastway but with 4 points of sway control - at the hitch head and spring bars...

This shank will work with your Reese trunnion head assembly. The grooves in the shank are provided to allow mounting of certain accessories. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball hole on the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66560 is around 13 inches. The shank included with the system is part # RP54998. • Matching Shank With 2 Inch Receiver for Reese Titan Weight Distribution System
The best shank for the Reese Titan Weight Distribution # RP66006 to fit in a 2" receiver is the Reese Weight Distribution Shank # RP54998 because it is the shank with the highest capacity at 16,000 lbs which is the closest you can get to matching the Titan's 17,000 lb capacity. • How to Pick Out New Drop Shank for Weight Distribution With New, Taller Truck
To determine the amount of drop you would need would be pretty easy. You will need to measure from the top of the hitch opening on your 2016 Ram 2500 to the ground and then compare that dimension to the distance from the bottom of the coupler on your trailer to the ground when level. The difference between those two dimensions is the drop you would need. With that in mind, there is one option for an Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch with the needed capacity for trailer: - Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System with 4-Point Sway Control # EQ64FR This system is designed to work with trailers that have a total loaded tongue weight between 1,200...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution with Sway Control for Toy Hauler with 1,465 lb Tongue Weight
The difference between a 2-point and 4-point sway control system has to do with the amount of locations where friction is used on the system to limit and stop trailer sway. A 4-point system like the Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET you referenced uses friction at the ends of each spring bar on the trailer frame as well as where they mount in the head. If your tongue weight is 1,500 lbs you'll want the Strait Line system # RP66075 which has a tongue weight range of 1,000 to 1,700 lbs. Ideally you get your tongue weight to fall as close to the middle of the range of the system. The # RP66075 would work great for 1,500 lb of tongue weight. If you went with a system that had 1,500 lbs as the top of the range you'd be at the max and the system wouldn't be as effective. If you have a 2 inch hitch you'll then need the shank part # RP54998....
