Hey everybody. Rob [email protected]. And today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster 60 inch coiled safety cables with a single hook. Now to help us with our installation, we're also going to be using the Roadmaster eight inch safety cable extensions with a quick disconnect on. And whenever you're towing, your CRV is very important to have safety cables, not only to make sure that we're being nice and safe, but also to be within the law. We don't want to get a ticket and we also don't want to do anything unsafe.
Because our safety cables are going to be our last line of defense in case a catastrophic disconnect we're to happen with our tow bar. Now I really like the coil design because when we need the length that cable can stretch but when we don't, it's now retracted in a nice little package and keep that cable from dragging on the ground, causing any damage. Each one of our cables are going to be made out of an aircraft type galvanized steel. It's going to be high strength and low weight, so you can make it a lot easier to work with, but also very strong. They're also going to have a nice vinyl coating on them. So don't have to worry about scratching or chipping our tow bar.
On one end, we'll have a drop forged steel hook that is going to be spring loaded. So it's going to be easy to hook them up and unhook them. And they have a little bit more security and strength than the standard S hooks. Now our safety cables are going to be rated at 6,000 pounds for the pair. We're going to be right in line with our tow bar, as well as how much our CRV weighs.
You just want to double check your owner's manual to make sure that you are within that limit. So keep in mind, that's only going to be one component of a safe, complete flat tow setup. There's really five major components that every car is going to need. The first one is going to be the base plate. That's what's going to be the connection points that we can hook up to our motor home and use our tow bar. Now the next one is going to be your tow bar and that's, what's going to hook to the base plate and to your motor home.
So you can safely pull your car down the road. After that, we're going to need safety cables, which are going to be your secondary line of defense in case our tow bar fails. And there's an accidental disconnection. Next we're going to need wiring. Now there's going to be several different kinds of wiring, but I always suggest diodes if your car can use it, because then we don't have anything extra to set up and it's going to use the car's tail lights to get the signals. And finally, we're going to have our braking system. Now braking system is going to you're required in almost every state and for good reason, we're putting a lot of weight behind our motor home. And we're asking a lot when we slow down because not only does it need to slow itself down, but now we added a couple thousand pounds behind it. So braking system is going to allow our CRV to slow itself down. So we're not putting so much strain and stress on our motor home. That's specifically for our CRV I do recommend the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass because if you look in your owner's manual, you're going to be required to pull a fuse. And it's just a lot easier to hit a switch rather than having to pull the fuse thrown into the dash, put it in the cup holder, remember to put it back. It's just a lot easier flip a switch and you could be on your way.One last component that I do recommend is going to be the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay. And what that's going to do is that's going to prevent our CRV from overriding the turn signals that we're coming from our motor home. For going down the road, going down the highway when it change lanes but at the same time, we may need to slow down a little bit. If we hit our brakes on our motor home and have a supplemental braking system, our CRV, that brake signal is going to cut our blinker out and it'll go salad in the back, which means it's going to be really unsafe driving around. But that brake light relay will allow us to not have that happen. But when we're driving, normally our brake lights will work just fine. Now we've seen what our cables look like and gone over some of the features. Let's show you easy to hook everything up. So I like to do that. I like to take the spring loaded in with the hook. I'm going to attach that directly to my CG connection point on my base plate. We'll do the same thing on the other side with our other safety cable. Now we can take the other end of our cable. We'll start routing it towards our motor home. Now, once we get underneath the center section of our tow bar here or close to the motor home, I like to cross my cables over. So I'm going to go from the passenger side of my car, to the driver's side on my hitch, on the motor home. Then on the other end by our motor home loosen up the quick link and you can see, we do have enough room to reach and actually get it hooked on there. However, our tow bar is not extended to the full length right now. We're going to lose a little bit. Instead of having our safety cables so tight and stretched so far, I'm going to disconnect them here and we're going to be using some safety cable extensions. Now these are going to be the same kind of material and the vinyl coating on them. They're going to have a short eight inch extension with a quick link on it. I'll attach my quick link to my hitch, make sure to tighten the knob up.And then I can just attach my safety cables to the other end using the quick link that's on the end of the safety cable itself. Now that gives us plenty of slack so that we can reach everything and have everything hooked up. And we're not pulling so tight on the safety cables, but at the same time that coiled cable is going to keep it off the ground. So we'll go ahead and hook up the other side, the exact same way. And the main reason why we even needed these extensions to begin with is really because we have this high low adapter here, because if it was not here, our safety cables and everything would actually be moved a lot closer to the hitch. And you can see that our cables are almost the same length as the high low adapter. So it just makes it so we don't have to worry about getting longer cables or if we just need that just a little bit of extra room to reach our connection point. Now our safety cable extensions are going to have a lot of the same features as our regular safety cables, the vinyl coating around the steel cable and everything else. However, these are actually going to be rated higher than the safety cables. Our extensions are only rates at 8,000 pounds, which is a good thing, cause we can always go higher than the rating, but we never want to go lower than the reading of our cables, our tow bar, or any other component in our setup. With all that being said, I'm Rob [email protected] and that'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster 68 inch coiled safety cables, as well as the Roadmaster safety cable extensions on our 2013 Honda CRV.

Get the strength of steel and the security of spring-loaded clasps with this pair of vinyl-coated safety cables. Each cable features a spring hook on one end and a quick-link on the other.Well, this is my 3rd review. These safety cables were part of my flat tow kit, all bought through etrailer. As I have said before, etrailer provides video installation guides that save you on Installations. Also their staff can help too. I have bought other items in the past and each self installation has saved a considerable sum of money overtime. You can't go wrong with etrailer
Replacement coiled safety cables. Excel ent
Solid and reliable cord. Mounting the connectors was straight forward and not difficult.
The main reason for the five stars, is I did have a problem with a piece of one of the products and when I called, there was very little questions asked they just handled the problem which I really appreciated. I would for sure do business here again!
Great heavy duty product and it works g reat.
The cables are exactly what I wanted. Good quality!
We have used these for about a year, several trips from GA to NH and MI towing our Jeep it works well with our tow set-up. We use these as secondary protection in case the jeep comes loose from the tow bar.
the safety cables are coiled and so much better than the straight cables I had previously. Well worth the price.
It does what it is designed to do. No more, no less. For this it gets a gold star.
3rd Road master tow bar I have installed on my toads (Miata, Honda Fit and Kia Soul). All are well built but not all interference issues are in instructions and video. On the Kia Soul, wasted 3 hours figuring out bolt was too short for blind assembly inside a pocket. Also radiator air guides needed trimming. Just plan for more time and be patient.
Held up well over the last year under heavy use.
They do the job as designed
Dealing with eTrailer to purchase and install my own base plate made me feel like I had a team of experts at my disposal. The installation is not easy and not for everyone, but with the help of chat sessions and videos, I believe that most people with some good working knowledge of tools can get it done.
I haven't installed anything yet, but shipping is very fast and the etrailer people are right on top of everything. Up to this point it seems like a great company to do business with!
Thank you

Good quality, easy to use. Would prefer snap hooks on both ends, but minor detail!
Timely receipt. Very pleased with the guidance received from everyone at e-trailer.
I purchased a Blue Ox base plate, Air Force One braking system, and a light kit for my 2013 Durango. I could have not asked for an easier process with selecting and ordering, also the tutorials and videos were a great help in determining what was the best system for me . Everything arrived as planned and in great condition. This is not my first time using etrailer.com and my prior experience was equally good.

After using the items I reviewed, about 6,000 miles, I am more than satisfied. The towing setup is easy to hook up and unhook and the braking system is second to none. All of the installation was completed by myself and a friend, both of us have a technical background him more than me and we found the videos of the installation extremely helpful.Thank you for following up and providing excellent products as well as support services.
I needed safety cables to go with a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain towbar that I purchased aftermarket. These work perfectly with my setup. The folks at etrailer.com are all knowledgeable and provide top advice when I need assistance. They are competitive on price and shipping is very prompt. They are my go-to source for all my towing needs.

Used a lot for the last year, and still work perfectly.
I bought a face plate safety chains and a tow bar spent all this money and I thought maybe you guys would throw in a cover for my tow bar
I wont replace them anytime soon, but I wont get the same thing again. Having to pull against the coils in the to hook up the cables negates the fact that the tension keeps them off of the ground. It is at least as easy to put a few twists in a traditional chain and get the same results without the tug of war and extra expense. Beside that, my tow bar has channels on each arm that I could run a none coiled cable through if I wanted to go that route. With just a little more than 1,000 miles on them, there is already abrasion on the plastic coating. As I write this, I am thinking maybe I will return them - better check into the policy.

Havent replaced them yet, but I regret getting the coiled cables every hookup and disconnect
Perfect! Exactly what I expected
Many thanks
Does the job.
After an unsuccessful and inaccurate description ended with me receiving the wrong product from Amazon, I order these cables from eTrailer. Perfect. Just what I wanted and for the right price. This completes my towing package for my "toad."

Ive made several trips with these cables and they still meet all my expectations. They connect and disconnect easily and store conveniently due to the fact they coil compactly. Theyve been a wise choice over time. More than worth the price.
Working well as coils better than cable quicker rig up and rig down.
