The MORryde Safe-T-Rail open dimensions

Essential Measurements

If you are eying the Safe-T-Rail and think you'd really like to upgrade your trailer with this unique design, the next thing you need to eye is the side of your RV. This will work perfectly on many trailers, but there are some situations that might make it incompatible or require some extra work during installation.

The MORryde Safe-T-Rail bottom bracket detail

The Safe-T-Rail needs to be mounted on a completely flat surface that is free of any obstructions. The bottom bracket will hug the corner of the door frame at the bottom (as shown). So check the following things:

The MORryde Safe-T-Rail install measurements

  1. There should be no trim or obstructions, including around a fold-out step well. The image above shows obstructions, such as trim around the step well, that will prevent installation.
  2. Slide out should be at least 4-1/4" away from the outer edge of the door. This image shows the trim from a slide out is far enough away to allow installation.
  3. Windows and awning arms should be at least 2-1/2" from the door frame. The photo above shows an awning bracket that is too close to the door trim, so the Safe-T-Rail cannot be installed here.
  4. There should be no obstructions within 1-7/8" under the door to fit the bottom bracket. This image shows the step well is far enough away. If the trim along its left side can be removed, it will be OK to install the Safe-T-Rail here.

If you have rubber seals or trim that can be removed, that's OK. Just know you will need to be ready with the tools to cut and seal those areas to prevent any water damage.

When you remove your old grab handle, you're going to need to be ready to repair the screw holes to prevent any water damage. This can be done with some simple silicone caulk or sealant. You'll also need caulk or butyl tape to seal the screw holes when mounting the Safe-T-Rail to keep moisture out.

There are 2 upper mounting brackets included. The longer bracket may be needed to cover up screw holes from your old grab handle. This not only helps to keep out moisture, but it makes sure the outside of your RV still looks nice. If the shorter bracket covers any old screw holes, the longer one is not used.

by:

This rail will work nicely with my new Brophy 4 step just added to my 1999 Lance 1010 truck camper. My wife and I will appreciate the extra safety factor.

by:

My fiance purchased your torklift stairs for our truck camper. I purchased this hand rail to help with balance issues on the stairs. It's works perfectly. I would have given this 5 stars but a nylon washer and a nut were missing. The second washer and bolt we're just loose in the box. It was an easy fix. Altogether though I love the steps and the handrail. Easy to open and close. Sturdy enough to feel safe.

by:

We’d been looking at these since the Tampa RV Show 2 years ago, but I was hesitant to try it because, based upon the installation instructions, I would have to cut a piece of trim beside the door. Finally decided to give it a shot. We couldn’t be more pleased with this product. Installation was far easier than I had expected, and the Safe-T-Rail is far more sturdy than the previous hand/grab rail that we had. Highly recommend the product and eTrailer.

by:

etrailer gets 5 stars

UPS not sure,
package arrived with damages, will not be able to inspect until I get off work this afternoon.

by:

Awesome product. Should come standard on all Rv’s. Easy to install. I put one on both doors to my 5th wheel. Makes the stairs much safer with a rail as long as the stairs are. Super simple deployment. Secure during travel.

by:

Excellent hand rail. Very stable and is easier to enter trailer

by:

Very effective rail, strong, sturdy, and it collapsese conveniently all the way out of the way. I actually attached it to the upper wall at the top of my attic stairs to supplement the lower side handrail, to support seniors walking up the last few steps. I had looked at shorter swing-aside ones, but they were too short. The only problem was that the instructions you provide apply only to attaching to the metal walls of an RV. You should provide them for house walls, use studs, etc. And it would be nice if you had other colors, at least a powder coat white.

by:

Excellent choice for RV handrail. Instructions were provided but you get better guidance from the video.

by:

My wife and her sister did not like the Stromberg-Carlson handrail because it wobbled side-to-side too much. Your handrail had some wobble. So, I added 2 nylon washers (see photo) to cure the issue. I also suggest you offer this handrail in white as black gets too hot to use when it is on the west side in the summer. I intend to paint mine.

by:

Product is fine. Directions included are awful. Watched your video and like the written instructions it skips the part about extending the rail to expose the second whole from the top. Sounds simple but everything starts with exposing that hole and getting that first screw in place. One other comment I would like to add. I wish the textured rail surface was more of a rubberized material to offer a better grip

by:

Absolutely fabulous upgrade to my Cameo 5 th wheel. Very easy to install with the help of the how-to videos as well !!! It is much safer than the old style hand rail. Love it !!!

by:

This hand rail is exactly what I wanted! Fast delivery and excellent communication from Lauren. THANK YOU for a pleasant purchase experience.

by:

As always it is a pleasure to order from etrailer.

by:

Works great and is very sturdy. The clevis pin hole is not correctly drilled making it difficult to impossible to insert.

by:

Very stable. Makes entering the fifth wheel safe and comfortable.

by:

Install was easy, nice to have something to hold onto going in and out of our fifth wheel

by:

Fit on Cedar Creek 34RL2. Did have to remove aluminum trim towards bottom of door.

by:

We bought this handle about a year ago and we love it. It's well made and we've had no issues with it. We do recommend this product that we bought from etrailer.

by:

Installation Instructions somewhat pres umptive.

by:

Very sturdy, well built. Install isn't really hard but directions are weak and could be much clearer. When drilling holes into a trailer clarity is important.

by:

Excellent. We didn't end up using it but gave it to our friend and it fit their trailer and needs much better.

by:

Packaged very well. Took about half an hour to install. Looks great on our 2017 grand design Imagine 2600RB!

by:

The Safe-T-Rail is solid as a rock and a huge improvement for older campers like me

by:

Haven't installed product, but am confident product will perform as advertised.
The 5 stars is for Etrailer's service. Can't be beat

by:

Seasy to install. Had my 3 year old grandson try it and he made it up and down without falling. My wife is more stable on the stairs with them. What I have been waiting for.

  • Can MORryde Fold-Down Step Legs Go Past The Listed Entry Height Range
I spoke with a MORryde tech and found that the 36" measurement would be pretty close to the end of the leg adjustment slots but that you would still have 2-4" of adjustability. The issue that you'll run into though is that the first step will be quite a bit higher than what would feel comfortable walking up and down so If you're going to be over the 36" maximum you'd be better suited with the # MR25HR, which has a 35-1/2" to 44" Entry Height. If you're also looking for a railing I recommend...

  • Recommended Fold Down RV Steps For A 2018 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS
With the dimensions you provided and the possibility of clearance issues due to an interior step being close to the door the MORryde Flip Tread RV Steps # MR42UR would be the best option. You'll just need to ensure that you have at least a minimum of 4.5" of clearance for the mounting bracket. The railing for these steps is thinner and the steps themselves can be flipped to take up even less space and help clear the interior stairs. If you're looking for a nice handrail to go along...

Both ends of the tube for the MORryde RV Door Latch Extender # MR22JR are threaded so you wouldn't be able to cut it shorter to accommodate your trailer's handle. I had this same issue when I first installed this when it came out, but we had also just gotten the MORryde Safe-T-Rail Telescoping RV Hand Rail # MR54BR which eliminates the issue by folding up straight against the wall of the trailer. The directions I received with it when I shot the installation video looked like they left...

This fold down step has 5 steps for a 7-1/2" rise/drop, which is the smallest that we currently offer. It fits a 34-7/8" to 42-3/8" entry height and 28" doorway width. • Can the MORyde Safe-T-Rail be Installed On a Class A Motorhome
I really don't have a good answer on why the MORryde Safe-T-Rail Telescoping RV Hand Rail # MR54BR can't be used on a class A motorhome. Realistically, as long as the surface that this is being installed onto is completely flat, free of obstructions, and is made of fiberglass you're fine. If the wall is curved or has corrugated steel walls I'd steer clear and avoid installing this. I do also recommend checking MORryde's website, and read the "Qualifier" PDF to be sure. Hey Ken, Based on your product code you have a 2nd Gen set of MORryde steps so you'll need the # MR73AR if you're wanting a standard bolt-on handrail. If you have enough space next to the door then I recommend the MORryde Safe-T-Rail Telescoping RV Hand Rail # MR54BR. This handrail extends out 41-1/2" from the trailer wall so that you have more handrail to grip as you climb or descend the steps. The MORryde Safe-T-Rail Telescoping RV Hand Rail # MR54BR can be mounted on either side of the door. You are seeing it on the left in pictures and our videos since that is typically where it is installed due to the way the door opens. The MORryde Pocket Kit handrail was designed just for the larger 3-step and 4-step variations. Since you have the 2-step style we'll have to go with more of a traditional approach, and for that I recommend the MORryde Safe-T-Rail Telescoping RV Hand Rail # MR54BR. I really like this handrail kit because it folds up nice and compact against your RV with a magnet when you aren't using it, but then extends out easily to the 42-1/2" length for assistance entering and exiting your RV.
