Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System

What's up everybody it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna checking out the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock device. And what this is gonna do is just gonna go on your ball mount or the shank of a bike rag, or even a cargo carrier. And it helps stabilizes it. So you can see right here with this ball mount moves around a whole bunch. Once I install that, that movement's gonna be gone.

Let's check it out. So with just the pin in let see how much movement we have in our ball mount. And so I'm gonna show you how to fix that and then install our device. So you're gonna take the Anti-Rattle plate here the flat part's gonna sit at the bottom of the hitch and the part that's angled up will push up on the ball mount push it in to place once we tighten it down. So let's drop our U-bolt through.

Then we'll put our flat washer, lock washer, and nut at the bottom. And we're gonna do that on both of them. So we're gonna get hand tight to help hold it on there. I'll do the same thing On the other side. Come back with a ratchet.

You continue to tighten it down. Let you do it evenly. Go back and forth. You don't wanna do one. Tighten one way more than the other.

Looks pretty good right there. Now I'm gonna shake the whole vehicle back and forth. You see there's no rattling or movement whatsoever in the ball mount. Now with that installed, that was just an easy way to show you how it takes the movement out of the ball mount with it, the you bolt here pulling down and this pushing up against there at the same time it takes all that movement out of there. Malone says that you can put it upside down if you need to for clearance issues. So we did that here on my hitch, and it actually seems like it got a little bit more behind the hitch. So it seems like it might work better for me this way. So that is an option. If you have clearance issues like I did. So the safety chain loops kind of get away at the bottom. So that full plate can't go all the way back. This one seems a little more sturdy. Now I threw a cargo carrier in the hitch, just to see, this has got a lot of movement up and down so that Anti-Rattle pin's in there. It does not move side to side at all, but that up and down we're gonna try and take care of it by adding that device on there. But first, we're gonna drive around the parking lot and see how bad it looks before we install it. Now we've shown it on a two inch hitch with a two inch cargo carrier and a two inch ball mount, but it can also work with inch and a quarter. So if that's your hitch size and that's accessory you would use it for, you can use it with that too. With installed on the cargo care. It worked out really well. There's not a lot of movement up and down. It really stabilized it. You could definitely see it when we we're going down the bumps. I think it's gonna be nice for any of those accessories. Like the ball mount, , even a bike rack. You just want a little more stability. You don't like that up and down movement. It's gonna help eliminate that. And, it's really easy to install and take back off. It's not a permanent thing. You just make sure to have a ratchet to tighten it down. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. Hope This helped..

Very happy with the Anti -Rattle HitchLock! Can’t believe what a difference without the constant clunking noise!

by:

Works Ok but not great--cannot tighten enough on a 1.25 inch hitch and still allows too much movement and rattle.

by:

Great price, great instructions and the hitch is starting to show some rust.
The anti rattle has worked very well.

by:

My bike rack hitch was rattling and very wobbly before I installed this. A year later, it's working so well that I forgot it was there. Not only recommended, but required to have in my opinion.

by:

Absolutely does what it says. Just bought a 2023 F-150 and my rattling hitch was driving me crazy! This even stopped the ramming when pulling my Z-8 Nitro LOVE IT and the super nice people at Etrailers

by:

Easily took the slack out of a ridiculously heavy anti-sway hitch head on my '24 Canyon.

by:

I've had this on my One-Up swing out rack extension on my Sprinter for about 6 months now and still holding it rock solid. Recommended.

by:

Works perfectly just as advertised! Removed all slop from hitch and provides much more comfortable ride. Wish I would have bought one years ago!

by:

Easy fix for a wobbly bike hitch rack! Perfect heavy duty support! I highly recommend it!!!

by:

Easy install, under 5 minutes, and works as advertised. Delivered within 48 hours. Great customer service.

by:

I put the trailer hitch "tightener" on my distribution hitch that had a lot of movement, the slight 1/16 in movement left/ right /up/ down made a lot of noise and contributed to my trailer swaying. Once I installed it, in under ten minutes, I could not budge the hitch at all making for a nice tight fit, no noise, no added sway. I highly recommend this for anyone hauling heavy trailers for any distance.

It still works great, I never take the hitch off my truck so I do have to check the nuts before towing, but still no shifting of the trailer at all

by:

Love this - it's been a big help stabilizing everything!

by:

Works great, no more rattle.

Working great

by:

Extension required for rockymounts folding bike rack on 2023 Kia Sportage

by:

I used this to secure the hitch for my camper. This hitchlock is super simple to install and defintely eliminated any slop in the hitch/receiver connection.

by:

It works as claimed but because we live rural I found little use for it. Most of my trips are very short. When going into the city I do feel more secure from theft with this clamp bolted in place.

by:

,This did not work because the ball mount is too short away from the hitch receiver.

by:

The anti rattle device pictured has a 1/2" U-bolt and the plate is 5/16" thick which makes it a very stout (meaning "not flimsy") tool for making the ball mount and receiver hitch into a one piece unit eliminating that clunking and rattling normally heard when starting, stopping and going over bumps. It's another example of how something so simple can be so useful. Since installing it, I've used the trailer on several
runs and no longer have that rattling sound telescoping through the tow vehicle. I do consider it's purchase "money well spent for a quality product".

by:

I can’t believe how much quieter it is pulling my boat now! Very easy installation, less than 5 minutes! You guys need to advertise these more, put them on your front page. I never knew they existed, until my fishing buddy ordered one 2 weeks ago.

Still the best thing since sliced bread.

by:

I'm giving 3 stars only because, like all vendor sites, a review was requested before even having a fair evaluation time of the products. It would be nice if sellers delayed their ask for at least 3 months. How am I supposed to know if it's sliced bread or a heaping pile without using it yet.

by:

Great video that not only shows how to install the equipment but also provides other recommendations.

by:

It’s a simple product. Not sure it’s as valuable as the price but it does the job so I’m happy with it. After all these years of towing I’m amazed that I need to buy something because nobody can make receivers and hitches that fit properly. Quality sucks with receivers and hitches so we get to buy stabilizers. Having said that this one is fine.

Still good. Product does what it is supposed to do. Minor complaint is it is too much effort to install for short trips with my utility trailer to the dump so I put up with the banging. Still recommended.

by:

This device makes a huge difference.

by:

I like the way the this anti-rattle device works. The black plate grabs the vehicle hitch well.

by:

My only issue was with shipping. 7 days is not realistic for delivery. Shout out to Kate in customer service. Very personable and helpful!

  • Why Does Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover for 2" Hitch Receivers Door Keep Opening
It sounds like you have the Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover for 2" Hitch Receivers # 63080 as there are other people who have referenced the door having trouble staying closed. The problem is that this is just a lower quality product so it isn't always perfect. I prefer a plug-style hitch cover, like the etrailer Rubber Hitch Cover # 22282, and then pairing that with a clamp-style anti-rattle device like what we see with the Malone # MPG908. This cover does have a 1-Year...

Hey Keith, yes the Malone anti rattle device part # MPG908 does work on a Class 4 2 inch hitch like what you have. The reason it is listed as Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch is because only the Class II hitches have the lip around the end of the hitch opening needed for it to work.

  • Recommended Anti-Rattle Device For 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver
I have another option for you, but Malone does not make an anti-rattle hitch lock for 1-1/4" trailer hitch receivers. Instead I recommend the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches # RM-061-125 which will keep the accessories in your 1-1/4" receiver from rattling while you are driving. I included a video of the # RM-061-125 being installed for you to take a look at.

  • Will The Curve In The Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock Plate Dig Into The Hitch Receiver
The curve in the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System part # MPG908 is designed for extra stability to not allow the shank of the accessory to move up and down. It is what holds the shank of accessory tight. I have attached a photo of how this is supposed to be installed between the hitch collar and the shank of the accessory. The curved portion of the Malone Anti-rattle will not touch the hitch.

  • Anti-Rattle Adapter Recommendation For Curt Hitch When Using Adapter
The anti-rattle adapter I recommend is the No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge, part # MPG908. This will work for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch receivers and is designed to insert into the small gap that may exist on your receiver. You then tighten it up after it has been installed on the hitch pin as the attached photo shows. This should reduce the rattle and movement you have been having.

Yes. You can use the Malone Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock System # MPG908 to help reduce/eliminate rattle between your receiver and ball mount when towing your travel trailer. With that said, my preferred solution for this is the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 because it's a little more sturdy. • Universal Anti-Rattle Device for Hitch Bike Rack
Most often the anti-rattle bolts and locks used on bike racks are unique to the specific brand and sometimes even to the particular rack model. Racks with threaded holes in their shanks are made to accept specific matching threaded bolts to provide the anti-rattle feature. • What Is The Smallest Anti-Rattle Device Currently Available?
The smallest anti-rattle devices we carry will be designed for a 1-1/4" hitch, like the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061-125. We do also have the Curt Trailer Hitch Anti-Rattle Kit for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches # F-315, but this requires a hollow shank to be used and I think the Roadmaster part does a better job of immobilizing the accessory in the hitch. With that said, if I am way off the mark on what you are asking about, let me know and I can try again.

  • Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for a Hitch Adapter Used on a 1-1/4 inch Hitch
When you use a hitch adapter like the part # HTAD you cut the capacity of the hitch in half. The bike rack would not be affected, but the hitch and frame of the vehicle where the hitch attaches would potentially be affected if you were to overload the reduced capacity. For a device that would reduce the movement of the adapter in your hitch you would want the No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge # MPG908. With this the movement would be reduced greatly. Also, the 1-1/4 inch Yakima HoldUp uses a threaded pin, # Y8880129, which acts as an anti-rattle device.
