Dimensions between weldstops both inside and outside

Measurements to Know Before Replacing Your Landing Gear

You should be able to swap out or upgrade your current landing gear a new set--even it's from a different brand name--as long as you get the following 3 measurements right:

  1. Distance between the weld stops, from inside to inside
  2. Distance between the weld stops, from outside to outside
  3. The overall length of the outer tube, including the cap

Each weld stop is usually about 1" wide, so if you get measurement 1), just add 2 inches.

How to Determine the Support Capacity You Need in Your Landing Gear

Landing gear stabilizes about 25% of your trailer's total weight when it's loaded with cargo. For example, a 14,000-lb trailer has a pin weight of about 3,500 lbs. For these legs to work, you'd need a set of landing gear strong enough to lift no less than 3,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have some legs with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's pin weight. In fact, they should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.

Note: Do not use landing gear to lift your trailer or RV during tire changes or service work, because doing so will exceed the capacity of the landing gear.

This was just what I needed. The legs work perfectly. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, there were pieces missing from the shipment and I had to purchase the missing items from a local hardware store. Also one gear box was locked up and I had to take it apart to find a piece of a wire tie inside blocking the gears. Once the piece of plastic was removed works like a charm. The fast delivery makes up for the slight inconvenience. The legs are holding my 5th wheel up with pride.

The shipment arrived in good shape and is working well. I will recommend you.

by:

Had some issues with the mounting brackets that were in the trailer. We didn't use the brackets that came with the kit as that would have involved cutting out the old brackets and welding in the brackets that came with the kit. We were able to get the legs installed with minimal effort and the rest of the installation went without any other issues.

Receved order on time and everything went well during reassembly. Thanks for helpjng me get all the right parts

I received my new landing gear, and it was what I expected. I have not installed it yet, but after putting a temporary fix on my old unit last year, I'm sure this unit will work. The packaging is not great, I actually thought the gear box that came with was used it was so dirty, but it has no installation marks on it, so I believe it's new. The trucking company used drove off my driveway cracking the edge of the asphalt, so I'm not real excited about that either. Other than those two things, it will work...

  • How Much Weight Can Landing Gear Hold
It depends on what 5th wheel landing gear you have. For example; the Lippert Landing Gear part # LC333966 is rated for 6,000 lbs. It can be used with a trailer that weighs more than 6,000 lbs because it is only supporting part of that load - the tires, wheels, and axles should be supporting the bulk of the weight. Keep in mind that the pin weight of a 5th wheel trailer is typically 20% of the loaded trailer weight. As long as you are not going over the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)...

  • Replacing Ultra-Fab Landing Gear With Lippert Landing Gear With High-Powered Motor
Thanks for all that good info, and what you have is the Ultra-Fab Deluxe Electric Landing Gear Set # UF17-943010, which you can replace with a Lippert set with a high speed motor on you RV, though you will need to have new brackets welded on. The issue is that the Ultra-Fab has an uncommon 20-1/4 inch space between the mounting brackets, while Lippert and most others have landing gear with the standard 17-1/2 inches. So if you were okay with having new brackets welded on to meet the spacing...

  • Replacement Landing Gear Set Option for Jayco Eagle 5th Wheel Trailer
I'm not totally sure what the exact issue is but it sounds like something with the gears inside therefore you'd be better off with a full replacement landing gear set for which we have a couple great options. The Lippert Manual Landing Gear Set part # LC333966 is a manual replacement option and the Lippert Electric Landing Gear Set part # LC333964 is a power replacement option. • Will Lippert Universal Landing Gear Fit in Place of a System with No Name
Most landing gear sets fit on the trailer the same way so it is very likely that the Lippert Universal kit # LC333966 will fit your trailer. But regarding if the motor you have will work or not I cannot say without knowing the manufacturer or model. For a little bit more you could get a system that comes with a motor, # LG-1, which is rated for 5,500 pounds. The next size up, # LG-3, is rated for 6,500 pounds.

  • How to Choose 5th Wheel Landing Gear
I can't find any reference to that part number, but there is still a way to choose replacement 5th wheel landing gear. All you will need to do is measure the distance between the mounting brackets, which should have the standard dimensions of 17-1/2 inches. Then just choose the lift and capacity you need; for example if you need 30 inches of lift and a 6,000 lb capacity go with the Lippert Manual Landing Gear Set with Handle # LC333966. • Landing Gear Set to Replace Lippert Landing Gear on a 2008 Keystone Cougar 5th Wheel Trailer
Yes. You can use Stromberg Carlson Manual Landing Gear Set - 34-7/8" Lift - 8,000 lbs Item # LG-183708 in place of the Lippert set that you have now. Or you can use Lippert set # LC333964 for an electric set or # LC333966 for a manual set. Or you could save some money and go with # RVLG-8HDL.
