These HD shackles are wonderful. About 1” longer than the old nylon bushing set and twice as thick. The camper jounce & rebound is slower and longer when going over an overpass bridge at highway speed (because of longer stroke). I use them with Sumo Springs which gives a smooth stable ride with little sway from trucks zooming by me on the highway. Had to add 1/2” spacer to the Sumo Springs after installing the wet bolt shackle kit since the longer shackle arms gave me 1/2” more ride height. (A good thing).
A great suspension upgrade! Thanks :o)

by:

EXCELLENT QUALITY but price is way too high. This was the only distributor that I found that carries the true HD Dexter kit.

by:

Great upgrade for my Dexter axle. My old hangers were toast and of much lesser quality. I have about 40,000 miles on the old set.

by:

One of the shackle assembly is bent, and the opposite shackle strap does not fit on the bolt. The shackle assembly with the two bolts attached to the shackle strap have to be at a right angle so the opposing shackle strap can be slid onto the ends of the bolt. The bolt is not at a right angle and the opposing shackle strap does not fit.

by:

My small travel trailer had an awful suspension system creak. It was embarassing to drive through a campground. Not only that, that noise must have indicated things were experiencing unusual wear. Since the suspension upgrade, the creak is gone. I had my upgrade installed by a mechanic, but someone reasonably handy could likely do the job themselves.

After a year and a number of outings with the trailer, the suspension is still creak- free. Very happy to have made the upgrade.

@Henry We're glad your Dexter # K71-358-00 Suspension Upgrade Kit is working well for you!

by:

The package was majorly damaged, but thankfully, nothing inside was damaged. I'm unable to upload the picture, but I don't know why. I tried 4 different formats.
the other problem is the shackles. The shackle straps didn't fit together, so I had to pry them apart to get them lined up.
I was going to give a 3 star review, but since I can't even upload pictures of the destroyed box, 2 stars it is.

I apologize for the issues uploading a photo. If you send the photo to me, I can upload it for you.

by:

One of the brackets in the kit was the wrong size. Not etrailers fault but they took care of it right away. Brackets are well made. I did strip one of the nuts so be careful not to over-torque them.

by:

This was THE addition I was looking for on our used camper we just bought. Turns out the shackle straps had NOT been serviced every 25k miles and 2 out of the 4 sets had completely sheared through, others all compromised and ready too. This was missed at time of purchase and I towed it home without knowing, NOT SAFE.

I wont worry again about them AND I can now service the through bolt and provide lubricant to each pivot connection. I highly recommend!

It would of been a a 5 star for be, but out of box on 2 sets I had to manually bend and align all 4 pre anchored posts that were aready installed on one strap to match the pre-drilled holes of the other to align properly. It was as if they weren't dry fit before packing and shipping.

by:

Another great product from Etrailer by Dexter. The shear size difference between the old shackles is huge. These are definitely Heavy Duty and will last a long time over the small stock ones. I like that all the bolts have grease fittings for easy maintenance. These shackles are Amazing and I will be installing a set on my Dads trailer this year. Great product and always great Customer Service.

by:

These are certainly an upgrade over the factory shackles that came with my Keystone. The holes on the factory shackle straps were ovalized by the 9/16" bolts, so clearly undersized and/or overloaded. These upgraded shackles appear up to the task, and the ability to grease with the zerk fittings should ensure long term durability. It's handy to have a shop vise to widen or shrink the large shackle with the two bolts already pressed in, as they came slightly bowed in, and I had to stretch them out a bit for the opposing strap to slide over both holes. No special tools were required to insert the bronze bushings into the spring, I simply used the included bronze bushings as a punching tool along with a brass hammer to hammer out the factory nylon bushings inside the leafs.

by:

Very happy with the quality/ thickness of the material.
Installation was easier than I expected.
Over all this is a good upgrade investment.

by:

The Morryde tandem kit and the Genuine Dexter single axle kit appear to be quality material, the shackle straps are massive compared to the 1/8” original mild steel straps, and so far have been easy to install. I did this upgrade on a trailer with a GVWR of only 8500# and 3500#, respectively, but if you have a heavier trailer I think you would be a fool to not buy these kits and have the reassurance that your suspension is not the weakest point on your trailer. You only need basic tools to do it, but if you’re short on time, buy the kit and have a shop install it for you. I also bought the Lippert Road armor and have a Shocker equalizer hitch and now you can’t tell there’s a trailer hooked up to me. If your back hurts like mine did after hours of towing because your wife is stuck on her phone or napping, spend the money on these upgrades.

by:

Great upgrade from what it was these units are pretty well over loaded soon as you take it off the lot 4400 pound spring assemblys and camper is 8600 empty these 5 leaf units should help

by:

These are extremely heavy duty parts.

by:

My original hangers where bent some how. So i decided to get this. When i was swapping out the bushings ona leaf spring that was only a year old, the plastic bushings where destroyed after only one year. Im very happy with the metal bushings that come with this hangers and the fact i can grease them regularly. I very happy with this product.

by:

I just received this product so it's not installed yet. So my high rating is based on:
1- It is exactly as pictured and described.
2- Quick delivery from time of order placement.
3- Price. If there is a better price out there I didn't find it.
I have ordered various items from etrailer before and have only been disappointed once. But that was on the manufacturer of the product, not etrailer. I was able to return the item and was credited in a reasonable amount of time.
I will continue to use etrailer.

by:

If you look at the pictures, you will see why I had to do something. This trailer is only 3 1/2 years old and has less than 3000 miles on it.
I only stumbled upon this when I was looking for something else! These work great! Just do your homework and verify your dimensions.

etrailer has been one of my go to sites for rv parts. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity and pricing to help us doit yourselfers!

Working great a year later

by:

Purchased this product for my 2019 Nitro Z-19 bass boat trailer. These trailers are very well known to be extremely squeaky while going down the road and this product took every squeak away from the trailer. To be honest, I am amazed at how much noise reduction the wet bolts took away from the trailer.

If I had to do it over again, I would make a Before & After YouTube video so you could hear for yourself at how quiet my trailer is now. Installation is a little tricky, but if you know your way around a trailer and have the correct tools, it's really not that bad.

If you are looking to take the squeak away from your trailer, do not hesitate and purchase this right now!

Tony

My trailer is still amazingly quiet! I have to add grease to the grease zerk about once a month, but am still extremely pleased with this product.

Everything was great! Looks like it will do the job.

My rig was going on 5 years old. I knew it was time to upgrade before breaking down beside the road.

by:

Peace of Mind. That is what I think of after upgrading the suspension on the trailer. From the brass bushings to the thicker shackles having a more sturdy and dependable suspension on the trailer gives me peace of mind when traveling around. My family did a big trip cross country last summer and I never had to worry about the suspension because I had upgraded to a more heavy duty set up. The dexter components I used are absolutely perfect with the road armor suspension equalizer that I installed. I definitely recommend upgrading the suspension from what comes standard on most travel trailers.

by:

These should be standard on all new trailers/5th wheels! It borders on criminal that the great majority of new manufacturers use the thin metal straps that wear through to the edge in 25,000 miles or less creating a serious and possibly fatal risk of the axle breaking loose! These thicker, stronger straps with metal bushings - not plastic like on the O.E. insure durability, strenth and reliability. Plus, they can be periodically lubricated - another common sense feature missing from the O.E. units. While it took a few hours to install, it is a relatively simple and worthwhile upgrade that I would encourage others to consider. Plus, the trailer weight shakes less and flows better over rough pavement. Our unit is a 28' fifth wheel... but these are appropirate for any size TT or fifth wheel.

by:

This has been an awsome upgrade from the standard plastic bushing and quarter inch thick shackles. Installed super easy. As most may know, the original plastic bushings that come standard are essentially worthless. And the thin standard shackles cut through the bolts and elongate the holes in a very short time. With this kit, the bronze bushings, along with the wet bolts will extend the life of these components almost indefinitely. All this, together with the half inch thick shackles, insure the shackles remain perfectly vertical with no tendency to lean out of plumb due to the additional contact surface with the bolts. I don't anticipate ever having to change them. Just pump a little grease in the zerk fittings every 5,000 miles or so, as suggested in the instructions. If I had any criticism at all, it would be that these come with straight zerk fittings that make it difficult to get a grease gun on (even with the hose type) because of tight clearance with the tires. Easy fix though, I just replaced the originals to angled zerks. I've already put about 8,000 miles on these in the first year. One of the most cost effective upgrades I've ever done.

by:

These are great. I did not do the install myself. Like the abilty of being able to grease them and keep the wear down. Fit perfectly and the plastic ones even only had 1,000 miles on them showed lots of wear. This really are a must for your suspension. Factory ones are the bear minimum at least on my trailer.

Mike

We have had these for a year now and they work as expected. So nice to be able to grease these.

Installing the U-bolts and plate like that would be fine, but I would recommend putting the plate on the leaf springs and running the U-bolts around the axle instead. The shackle bolts used between the springs and hangers do not require a specific torque rating because tightening the shackle bolts too much will squeeze the shackle straps against the leaf springs, and the whole suspension system will bind and cause problems. The best thing to do when tightening down shackle bolts is to use lock nuts, tighten them until they are snug, then back them off 1/4 turn. Lock nuts should be used because they resist loosening with vibration or torque. The part...
