Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we take a look at the portable 30 amp gen two power watchdog surge protector with Bluetooth and WiFi and also the emergency power off. Now this is a 30 amp surge protector. They'll prevent any damage to your RV from power spikes and sustained high or low voltage. The surge protection module, which is on the inside, offers 2300 joules of protection in case of a lightning strike. And what's nice about that module, it's easy to replace.
So if it does wear out, it can be replaced once it wears out. No need to have to replace this whole entire unit. Now we mentioned this watchdog has an emergency power off feature, which will cut connection in the event of an air to protect the electronics and appliances. It'll shut down if your current drops below 104 volts or raises above 132 volts. It will also cut power for an open ground, an open neutral, reverse polarity, open circuit, or misfired connections.
Now this will automatically turn back on once the power is stable for 90 seconds. Now what's nice about this, they offer a free smartphone app for iOS and Android, which will connect via your built-in Bluetooth and WiFi to help monitor your system and turn it on or off. And they make it really easy to pair this to your device by just using this QR code right here. All you have to do is scan this QR code and it'll pair this up to your device. Now this will monitor volts, amps, and watts in real time to keep an eye on your power draw, and it'll even give you push notifications when the voltage is outside of acceptable customizable ranges.
This does offer a four second startup delay that'll get you up and running faster than other brands. The delay makes sure power is safe to use before flowing normally, and the audible click will tell you that the surge protector is on. Right up front here on this face, they use easy to see indicators. It'll show you if there's a problem and what that problem is. Basically this whole watchdog logo will light up in white if the power is steady and if it lights up in red, that's telling you there's an air.
And right down here, this LED display will show an air code. And what's really nice about it is all you have to do is turn this to look to the side, and right here it'll have a legend on the box and it'll show you what the air code shows you. It'll tell you what the problem is. So you just compare it to this legend here. Also, these lights on front here can be dim via the mobile app. This does offer a fault history, which can record up to 10 faults. It has a timestamp to provide detailed information on shutdowns. The housing, it is a nice IP 65 rating for weatherproof protection against dust and rain. And right up here, if you notice around the cord, they offer this metal bracket, which will provide a secure place to attach a cable lock to. Now, one of the unique features on this, it is uses a side entry receptacle and cover to help release stress on your receptacle connection. So when you go to plug your cord in, if you look, this just swings open and there's your receptacle. Just pull off the cover and you can plug it in. So just like that, it doesn't put your cord in any tight bind to put any stress on it. It's a side entry receptacle, so you just plug it in. Now, when you're not using it, all you have to do is take your cover, put that back on there, cover it up, and then drop your cover down just like that. And it'll cover everything up if you notice the holes at the bottom to let your cord go down through. Also, what's nice is this receptacle bay. If you look at the very top right up here, you'll see this little white dot, that's a light. So actually you can turn that on for nighttime visibility. And this clam clamshell style bay door, it'll have a ring on it that when you close it, it lightens up with the ringer right here. And it's big enough to put a padlock through so it gives you even an extra layer of security to prevent any tampering alongside with this metal lock ring up here on the cable. Few specs on this, the amps is 30 amps, maximum watts is 3,600 watts, and the energy dissipation 2300 joules. App on my phone works well on bluetooth when near the unit/rv. WiFi connection lets you check from anywhere as long as the unit sees a WiFi connection and your phone has one to linkup. AKA Hughes Model PWD30EPOW (WatchDog Gen II). Good price for this model.
Looking for something to keep water from getting between connection from surge protector to pig tail and frying like the one I had. This is it!! Protection all around.Great packaging and delivery in two days. Sticking with Watchdog and etrailer.com from now on. Happy all the way.

I got my new Watch Dog surge protector right away, thanks George and the rest of you at trailer. A loose connection maybe to blame for replacing my old yeller one, but after 6 years it was time to upgrade to something better and I chose this because of all the videos and magazines and the Quartzsite rv show. I chose etrailer because of the customer service has always be great for me, thanks again everyone.
Easy to use. Love the fact you can replace the surge module. I bought an extra to have on hand (about $40). The surge protector being replaced by the Watchdog was a one and done. It was fried and no way to replace a module. Used a little over a year, so $300+ dollars down the drain.
After hard wiring this into my electrical bay, everything has worked as designed.
I like the App and the ability to track kWh and line voltage.
The Watch Dog is a great surge protector and ems. Installs easily. The toughest part was reconnecting to my distribution panel due to very tight space. Other than that all went well and is working properly. I really like that if I get a surge the Watch Dog will shut down and protect my camper but unlike the Surge Guard I will not have to purchase a new unit, just the circuit board at a much lower price than a whole new unit. Great job Huges Autoformers on the designing of this unit. I only wish I would have gotten this instead of the Surge Guard.
This device provides valuable information for awareness of power usage in our 30 Amp RV. This allows more efficient operation of the electrical supply so that we can manage 120 volt AC equipment to avoid tripping breakers.
We feel real secure in this product. Has always worked just as it is supposed to. Glad we purchased a product we can repair if blown instead of having to purchase a new surge protector after an event.
Just received the Watchdog Surge Protector yesterday afternoon. Plugged it in and seems to be working fine. Have yet to load the app but I anticipate no problem in doing so. Etrailer has been excellent in their communication and service.
Easily connects with Bluetooth. It has saved us on several occasions! Reverse polarity twice. It gives us comfort to have such a great product
Hardware looks sturdy and well constructed. Would like to have the face of the display aligned with the front of the connector, but I think I can remedy that. I'll unscrew the connectors, add some silicone grease to the O-rings (I hope that I find) inside, and put it back together square.
Software could be better. The one most important metric I'm looking for is peak Amperage when my A/C starts up, and I'm not getting a good number there. The display doesn't update continuously, and the peak power usage is just a moment in time, so I get a reading just before the peak and another reading just after the peak.
Would be great if the iPhone app was upgraded to give an option for "Peak Level" like is common on audio devices. That, or a line graph of the last minute or so, with a Y-Axis where I could find the Amps at the peak.
Two stars deducted for the lack of a vital software feature and a slightly sloppy assembly. For the money, I'd expect both.
Power Watchdog works as advertised. I love the Bluetooth connection to my phone that indicates power consumption. Installation was a breeze, other than the 50 Amp motorhome wire that is a tad stiff. Instructions were very clear.
After a year I have had no issues. Luckily I haven't had to use the protection, but nice to know it is there. I find that I use the app much more than I anticipated. It helped me track down an issue I was having with my converter. The Bluetooth connection is reliable and the app is straight forward and simple to use.
I use this surge protector on our 5th wheel. The BT capability allows me to monitor power usage remotely and ensure my trailer is protected.
The unit works great! It transfers power to the RV almost immediately!!!
The previous protector was slow to diagnosis the power supply and let it into the RV!!! Drove me crazy!!! ??
The WiFi App also works great,,, very Informative, the display organized well!
While we have yet to be in foul Wx, or plugged into bad power, and no real testing, given its performance thus far, I have to think this unit will protect the RV!!!

I wanted to add a surge protector with the emergency shut down after my Hughes Autoformer and this worked great. I chose this one since it had plug ends and could be easily disconnected if there were ever to be a problem with a in my electical compartment.
Have used a few times. No issues but haven't come across a malfunctioning power pedestal yet. App works well. Item is a bit bulky though and plug can rest on the ground depending on pedestal height.
Received the Watchdog in the specified time window . Took it camping the next day . It is plugged in and doing its job well as I type . Seems to be a great product !!!!

A must for any RV. The fluctuation in current levels is greater than you think and our surge protector gives peace of mind knowing that the electrical systems in our RV are protected. Our rig was plugged into a vacation home that we had traveled to and the 120 volt circuit consistently dropped below 104 volts at night and our watchdog kicked in to shut off power and then restarted when current levels rose. Love this protector, does exactly what it needs to do: PROTECT! This last summer we took a 4th month trip in our RV and ran into a lot of sketchy power posts, luckily this protector kept our RV safe. Heavy? Yes. Hard to store as the cable is vey stiff? Yes. Would I still use 100% of the time? YES!
