Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise

Today we'll be taking a look at the Brophy Hitch Adapter, 1 1/4 to 2 inch trailer hitch receiver with a 5 inch rise, part number HT5R. The Brophy Hitch Adapter is going to allow you to convert your Class I and II 1 1/4 inch receiver to your 2 inch receiver, allowing you to use any 2 inch accessory. It offers a 5 inch rise, giving us more ground clearance here at the rear of the vehicle for our accessories. We're using a cargo carrier with our adapter here today, but it's also going to work great for your bike racks or any other 2 inch accessories. Now please keep in mind when using this adapter, it does cut your tongue weight capacity in half. It is not recommended for towing use, so no ball mounts. This is a much more economical solution than having two bike racks or two cargo carriers for multiple vehicles and it's definitely cheaper than purchasing a different hitch.

In addition to the rise, it gives us a 7 inch extension. It's also made out of a sturdy steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it's going to stand up to the elements. It has a 300 pound weight capacity. It's an extraordinarily easy installation. We've got our adapter plugged into our 1 1/4 inch receiver and our accessory plugged into our adapter. The pin and clips are sold separately from the hitch adapter, so you'll need to pick some up here at etrailer.com.

Here at the adapter end, we've got a PC3, this is going to be our 5/8th pin and clip. Here at the hitch end, we've got a PC2, that's going to be our 1/2 inch pin and clip. That's going to complete our look at the Brophy Hitch Adapter, 1 1/4 to 2 inch trailer hitch receiver with a 5 inch rise, part number HT5R.

  • 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch Adapter For Bike Rack On A 2011 Toyota Camry With The Draw-Tite 36416 Hitch
Hello Richard. We do have an adapter, the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R which may work very well for you. This will go in to the 1-1/4" receiver on your Camry and give you a 2" receiver with 5" of rise. It is very important to note that when using this kind of adapter, the weight capacity of your hitch will be reduced by 50%. This means that your Draw-Tite # 36416 hitch will only be able to carry 150 lbs of tongue weight. This is including the weight of the adapter (8 lbs) plus the weight...

  • Recommended Hitch Extender for Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch and 2 Inch Bike Rack
The Draw-Tite # 24857 for your 2008 BMW is only rated for Class I. This means the only options to have your bike rack fit are the # HTAD or the # HT5R that are compatible with Class I hitches. You will limit the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of your hitch to 100 lbs because the adapter will reduce the hitch's tongue weight by 50%. That new 100 lb capacity will need to include the weight of your bike carrier as well as the loaded bikes. I also recommend using a hitch lock like # e98880...

  • 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Inch Hitch Adapter With Rise That has Most Clearance
The 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter with rise that has the most clearance from the pin hole to the back of the adapter is the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R. This adapter is approximately 3-3/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the adapter. So there is nothing that is 4 inches with a rise, and the use of any adapter will reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. So for example if you had a 2019 Buick LaCrosse with...

  • What is the Bumper Clearance Measurement of the Draw-Tite # 24920 and the Curt # C11406?
Great questions! When choosing between the Draw-Tite Hitch 1-1/4" # 24920 and the Curt Hitch - 1-1/4" # C11406 for your 2019 Honda Fit, the bumper clearance measurements we have are the result of our install team's specs when they install the hitches on different vehicles; the manufacturers don't provide us with that information. The great news is that we have both bumper clearance measurements for both hitches when installed on your 2019 Honda Fit. I've attached the install videos that...

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount for 2017 Ford Mustang
There is a potential way for you to haul an electric wheelchair with a 2017 Ford Mustang, although there is not an adapter that is going to work. The reason for that is there is just one 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter with rise that works with a Class I hitch, and that adapter, the Brophy # HT5R, has a 5 inch rise, which doesn't meet your needs. Additionally, the use of any adapter will reduce the weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent, and since there are only Class I hitches with a...

  • 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Adapter for Bike Rack on 2008 MazdaSPEED3
We have exactly what you need, although technically the adapter will not turn the Class I hitch into a Class II hitch, it will simply give your 2008 MazdaSPEED3 a 2" receiver. The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R will convert your Mazda's Class I, 1-1/4" receiver into a 2" receiver and will also give you 5" of rise. This adapter will also reduce your hitch capacity by 50 percent, so if you had the Draw-Tite # 24816 hitch, for example, its maximum tongue...

  • Is there a 2 inch Hitch for a 2012 Toyota Camry?
Hey Jim! I checked with all of our vendors and I am sorry but the only hitches available for the 2012 Toyota Camry are class II ones with 1-1/4" receivers like the Curt item # C12107. This hitch has a 300 lbs tongue weight capacity but you'll need to use an adapter like the item # HT5R for a wheel chair carrier. The issue with any adapter is it cuts your hitches capacity by 50% so you're only left with 150 lbs to spread out amongst the chair and carrier.

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2000 Volkswagen Passat Wagon With 4-Motion
Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11076 is a confirmed fit for your 2000 Volkswagen Passat Wagon with 4Motion so long as you do not have the 4.0L W8 engine. If you do have the 4.0L W8 engine then we would not have a trailer hitch for this vehicle and you would need to reach out to your local dealer. I have attached an install photo and video for you on a similar Volkswagen Passat Wagon with 4Motion.

  • Hitch Adapter to Raise Bike Rack
There are no hitch adapters that offer just rise for a 1-1/4" hitch. What bike rack do you have? If it is one we carry we may be able to find you something to convert it to a 2" rack, or there is also the possibility of a new rack with a shank that has rise. If you let me know what rack you have I may be able to find a solution for you.

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver For a 2019 Subaru Impreza Sedan That Accepts 2" Hitch Accessories
I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24960 with a Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R for your 2019 Subaru Impreza sedan. This receiver is custom fit for your Impreza and will fit properly. It does have a 200lb capacity rating which reduces to 100lbs with the adapter. • Would Hitch Adapter HT5R Clear Rear Bumper of 2017 Honda Accord
From the center of the pin hole of the part # HT5R to the back of the upper hitch opening tube measures 3-1/2 inches. You would need to have less than 3-1/2 inches from the pin hole on your hitch out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper. When we installed the Curt hitch part # C11681 that you have installed on your 2017 Honda Accord we found that the dimension in question was 2-1/2 inches so the adapter would fit and work well.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For Carrying 2" Bike Rack With a 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid
I recommend using the Hitch Adapter # HT5R with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36643 on your 2022 Toyota Camry. This adapter has a 5" rise that will help you gain additional ground clearance for your bike rack to clear driveways and curbs. The adapter will reduce the weight rating by 50% lowering the receiver tongue weight from 350lbs to 175lbs. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118763 will give you a 4-way connector. The Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R can be used with a Class I hitch like the Draw-Tite # 24920 you have on your 2018 Honda Fit but there is an important catch: the use of an adapter will reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. What that means is that the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of your hitch will be reduced to 100 lbs so themost your cargo tray and its cargo could weigh is 100 lbs. • Is There a Class III Hitch for a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 Sedan
I do have an option for you but the only available trailer hitch option for a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 Sedan is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11701 which has a class I rating. Unfortunately, they do not offer larger class III rating for these smaller vehicles. That said, you can use an adapter to obtain the larger opening but keep in mind it will reduce weight capacity. For this, I recommend the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise part # HT5R.

The only other option is to change your trailer hitch receiver to the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit # 75717 which is has a 2x2 receiver and is designed for your 2012 Hyundai Tuscon. • Availability of Adapter for 1-1/4 inch Hitch that Gives a Rise 2 inch Hitch Opening
We do have the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R which fits 1-1/4 inch hitches and then gives you a 2 inch hitch opening 5 inches higher. This appears to be exactly what you would need but you have to keep one thing in mind. These adapters cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent due to the added leverage and movement.

If you have a Class I or II 1-1/4 inch hitch installed on your 2012 Mazda 3 like the Curt # C11383 the hitch adapter part # HT5R will fit it and work. You should note though that when you use a hitch adapter like this you cut the capacity of the hitch it is installed in by 50 percent. So you'd only have a 100 lb tongue weight capacity. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your vehicle out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper. If that dimension is less than 3-1/2 inches this adapter would clear. • Can Hitch Adapter Be Used with Class I 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Hitch Receiver
Since the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver 24659 you got for your 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix is a Class I hitch I don't recommend using an adapter like the Brophy # HT5R because it reduces the weight rating of your hitch receiver by 50% and it causes more movement while going down the road. The Draw-Tite hitch you purchased has a tongue weight rating of 200 lbs so by using this adapter you have 100 lbs to work with, both for the rack and your bike. Technically you can do this...

  • What Do You Recommend for Adding Rise to Have a Higher Ground Clearance for a Cargo Carrier?
I have a solution for you. When it comes to hitch adapters that provide rise to your trailer hitch for your cargo carrier, we only carry adapters that add rise for 2-inch hitch receivers. However, with that being said, we do carry adapters that enable you to carry 2-inch accessories on a 1-1/4 inch receiver that add rise. For that route, I recommend the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" # HT5R. In addition to allowing you to use 2-inch accessories on your 1-1/4 inch hitch, the Brophy adapter...

  • Class I Hitch Compatibility with Cargo Carrier and Bike Rack
You are correct that your 2016 Honda Accord Touring Sedan can be fitted only with a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch, such as Curt # C11496 or Curt # C11681. Both hitches require the use of a support strap # 18050. Class I hitches have to be used with Class I accessories items, also the 1-1/4-inch size, to avoid having to use a hitch expander like # HT5R or # HTAD. Also, note that only 2 bikes can be carried on a Class I hitch even if the rack holds more than 2. The trouble with such...

  • 2 inch Hitch Adapter with Rise Availability for a 2000 Toyota Camry
As long as the hitch installed on your 2000 Toyota Camry is a Class II hitch like the part # 36336 you can use the adapter part # HT5R which will give you a 2 inch hitch 5 inches higher than the opening of your hitch. For a locking hitch pin for the 2 inch portion of this you would want the part # e98880. You should note that when you use an adapter like this you end up cutting the capacity of the hitch in half.

I do have a recommendation for you as Thule only offers the Replacement 1-1/4" Hitch and Backbone Assembly # 753370902 for changing your Thule T2 Classic 2" to a 1-1/4". You can use either a Straight Adapter # e43YR or Rise Adapter # HT5R to adapt your 1-1/4" hitch to carry the 2" bike rack. Do note that the adapter will reduce the tongue weight rating on your receiver by 50%. So if you have a tongue weight rating of 350lbs you will have to stay 175lbs or below for the adapter.
