Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

Very well made. I added some more bar tacks to bond the backing plate to the fender. It probably would have been fine as is, but for three minutes of effort I know that the two won't separate. I built a T out of 1" tubular steel to mount it to the trailer and there is no flex, once I welded it all together. Arrived clean enough to paint (but I still wiped it down with isopropyl alchohol before painting).Nice heavy gauge fender.

by:

Purchased these replacement fenders 1 year ago for a 20+ year old trailer to replace the original rusty ones. They were a perfect fit and welded on easily. Still looking good 1 year later.

by:

The photos on the website show the backing plate attached symmetrically to the fender. The ones I received had the backing plate attached at an angle (left side 4" from bottom of the fender to the bottom of the backing plate - right side 1" from the bottom of the fender to the bottom of the backing plate). Mounting the fenders symmetrically front to rear would create attachment problems. I am having trouble convincing Customer Service this is an issue.

I don't usually write reviews, but my experience working with etrailer.com has been exceptional! I like dealing with a company that has a real human being answer their phone and etrailer does that. I had ordered the wrong parts for a trailer and dreaded the return activities. Sharon O was very helpful and got the replacement parts sent out the same day we talked. She also sent me a pdf that I was able to print and use as a UPS label to return the wrong parts I had ordered. All I had to do was take the package to a UPS office. (etrailer.com even paid for the shipping charge and deducted the amount from the refund for the parts I returned.)

by:

Still holding up great a year later. I have yet to have any issues with Etrailer. Thanks for awesome products and customer service!

by:

You can weld or bolt on these fenders. I’ve opted to have them weld by my local muffler shop, I used two jack stands on each end to place and level. I like them and I would recommend to others.

by:

Package arrived promptly and without damage. Ordered the fenders with the backing already on.
Attachment was simple and easy with the MIG. Note that the backing that is on the fender is spot welded. It required further tack welds between each spot weld to keep it from vibrating. Overall, a good sturdy fender that should last.

Great product at a great price...

definitely use etrailer aagain

Still going strong!!! I dont really beat on my stuff. I was given a trailer that had seen better days, I rebuilt most of the mechanicals on it & its still serving me well…Thanks for the follow up though…

by:

Very high quality. Rebuilt a trailer that had been sitting on the ranch full of junk for 15 years. Had a mobile home axle and wheels on it. eTrailer had the perfect size fender. ready to paint...no prep needed.

Great! No Complaints after a year on the ranch.

by:

The fender was good quality & it seemed priced right.
The standard shipping was pretty quick. Only 3 days from ordering. And pretty much across the nation.
The packaging was a little lacking. Put in a box with no packing. Slight dented. But not enough to call them. Although one of the fenders I ordered a few years ago had to be sent back.
All in all … a great company to deal with!
Customer support is wonderful!

by:

As expected. Worked great for my projec t.

The fenders are working great! No complaints.

by:

Arrived as scheduled in excellent/new condition. Just what I needed for 1955 f100 project as these will be used as wheel tubs on bedsides for wider wheels/tires. Perfect fit for 18"x12 setup. Excellent tech info with customer service depth.
Thanks to everyone who was involved with my order.

by:

These fenders are solid and well built.
4 stars instead of five because I ordered a receiver hitch and it was packaged with the fenders and caused some minor cosmetic damage.
I also added some welds to the back plate as it was minimally spot welded in only a couple spots.

by:

Received quickly saved me about

by:

Wanted to paint and install prior to sending feedback. Quite satisfied. Well made fenders. Easy install. Look great. Sturdy.

As well as when I purchased the fenders and installed them. Ive towed this trailer 6,000 miles since install. Working quite well.

by:

I purchased a boat trailer with no fenders (the originals rusted out and were removed) and these turned out to be perfect. Very sturdy and well built.

by:

Fast Shipping, fits like a glove

by:

I’m so proud of my self on making the right choice and purchase from ETRAILER, large inventory, fast delivery, quality products and best of all competitive affordable prices
I ordered wheel fenders and they fit perfectly just a couple of coats of paint and done.
Most recommend for all your hauling needs

by:

Great communication! Well informed, and fast shipping! Thank-You!!

by:

Product is as described and fits to my trailer well.

by:

My purchase came quickly and the price was good.

by:

I think the fenders are fine . Seem to be well made and like how they look, unfortunately, I had to buy a third fender after I had a blow out on my trailer. Didn't fare to well when that happened at 60 mph. First picture is a before shot and the second is an after shot if you couldn't tell.

by:

I have not mounted these fenders yet, but they arrived on time and in good condition. They are certainly heavy duty and I am sure they will work well for this restoration project.

As always, the service from etrailer.com was excellent.

by:

The fenders were a perfect fit and much more heavy duty then the originals. I am very pleased. Thank you etrailer.

by:

They are as advertised.

Possibly, but we don't have any way of knowing what fenders are on your cargo trailer or a way to look up a VIN. Great question. As a general rule, when your trailer is loaded to it's full capacity, there should be a minimum clearance of 3 inches between the top of your tire and the underside of your fender. This should give you adequate clearance for potholes and bumps. If you want to get precise, on an underslung trailer (the springs are mounted under the axle), you should measure the distance between the bottom of your frame and the top of your axle. Add two inches to that measurement and you should...
