This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, near the spare tire compartment.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

2009 Toyota Highlander

The wiring is fine and is correct, but this 2009 Highlander that I bought it for needs a converter box and trailer fuse as well. This info wasn’t available on the etrailer website. I had to search YouTube and some forums to figure out why my brand new wiring harness wasn’t working. I then had to find and purchase the converter separately. It would be nice if the info was readily available on etrailer. I think U-Haul was actually where I found the instructional video on how to do the converter box. Etrailer should definitely not put customers in a situation where they need to go to their direct competitors website for info

Needed better instructions on install for my vehicle. Had to call for support help that was unsure himself. Wiring access was in compartment with spare tire. Had to remove for access. Once access the wiring was easy.

by:

This wire fit perfectly in my 2019 Highlander but I was never able to use it. I didn't realize that I needed the factory tow package for this to work, the label wasn't on the listing at that time. I ended up having to purchase one without the factory two option.

Perfect fit for Toyota Highlander. Easy to install.

Toyota Highlander

I installed this product on the Toyota Highlander I inherited from my sisters estate. I purchased a 5' x 8' trailer to pull behind it. I discovered the wiring harness was too corroded to work. Found Hopkins Custom Fit wiring harness on-line, it installed easily and works well. I just keep the harness in the back of the car and feed it out the back hatch to connect to the trailer. Works good!

2015 Toyota Highlander

Connectors match factory harness on my 2015 Highlander, but, of course, it is missing the strain relief, protection and gromet. External flat plug is an exact match so it will fit the factory bracket, but the plastic mount (HM48595) they make for this is better, just get a couple of stainless steel screws and nuts to attach it and you won't have a rusted mess like the factory bracket. I ended up splicing the external plug onto my factory harness to replace the factory plug with a broken off ground pin. This seemed the simplest way to keep all the factory strain relief, etc. Would have preferred the splice not be under the car, but I'm hoping adhesive lined heat shrink will protect the solder joints adequately.

2008 Toyota Highlander

So easy. and I found a useful [online] video. I love that I can leave the wires in the storage compartment inside the car and just run it under the weather stripping on the rare occasions when I need it. Trailer wires have always tended to get rusted out in my experience. super easy!

by:

Very happy with this product and would definitely recommend ordering from this dealer. Product arrived on time and well packaged. It was as described and it worked perfectly. I give this a 5 star rating

by:

harness was plug and play and install was easy. One trick I would says is just remove the plastic base trim at the door latch and then lift up the storage tray to get the plug. No need to remove the whole tray and such.

by:

This wiring harness came in really fast as well with the hitch but I made the mistake and ordered the wrong one so I'll be returning it for a refund. I don't expect any issues with that either!

by:

Very helpful with ordering the correct one & the lights too! Hannah was efficient ! Arrived early !
Thanks Hannah!

by:

Easy enough to install. Turns out I did need the light control module (dealer gave me bad info)

2012 Toyota Highlander

Love my new trailer hitch. Installation was easy...took bout 1/2 hour.

by:

I have received two orders from etrailer and have been extremely pleased with their responsiveness...fastest I have ever seen for this type of product. I would recommend everybody to use "etrailer" for items they need. Ron Buske

by:

Very easy install, I watched a video on youtube

by:

Part showed up late, estimated shipping date was incorrect. Paid 2 day shipping to get stuck with a part I can't use

  • Which Hopkins Wiring Kit Is Needed to Install A 4-way On 2010 Toyota Highlander Without Factory Tow?
Since your 2010 Toyota Highlander did not ship with the factory tow package you will need the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141845. The Harness # HM11141825 is only a replacement section for the 4-way connector. This must have either the factory section or Hopkins section included with the Harness # HM11141845 to operate. As long as your trailer does not have electric brakes or require some sort of charge line or reverse wiring you will only need the 4-way flat to...

  • Troubleshooting Loss Of Trailer Running Light Function On A 2019 Toyota Highlander XLE
Hey Johnathan, Since you've already checked the fuses and found everything was fine that leads me to believe that the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness # HM11141825 has an internal short. I recommend unplugging it from the factory connector and then turn on your running lights. You can then test the factory connector using a circuit tester # PTW2992 to see if the signal is coming through. If it is then we know the # HM11141825 just needs to be replaced. If the signal isn't coming...

Here's what you'll want to do to easily determine if your 2015 Toyota Highlander has the factory converter for trailer wiring. Check out the install video link I attached and fast forward to the 4:00 minute mark. This is the portion of the install video for the # C56217 that covers installing the needed fuse to activate the converter box of the kit. • Trailer Wiring Harness for 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE
Installing a 4 pin trailer wiring harness is a plug and play proposition on all models of your generation of Highlander. Since your Highlander doesn't have the trailer package, you'd want to use # 118449 which installs using the two connectors under the cargo floor right at the threshold for the rear hatch. The kit includes the converter assembly, the trailer connector that plugs into the other connector and the fuse that would need to be installed in the fuse box in the engine compartment....
