  • Lippert 1621HD
  • Upgraded Pin Box
  • Absorbs Road Shock and Reduces Chucking
  • Gen-Y Hitch
  • 30000 lbs GTW

This shock-absorbing pin box provides a smooth, safe ride while you tow your fifth-wheel trailer. The all-in-1 box has no air bags to refill or small parts to replace. 5.5K pin weight.

Features:

  • 5th-Wheel king pin box upgrades the existing pin box on your 5th-wheel trailer
    • King pin inserts into your truck's 5th-wheel hitch
  • Shock-absorbing design ensures a smooth, steady ride
    • Technology functions like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from trailer to truck and vice versa
      • Reduces chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion
      • Limits bounce and jarring up-and-down motion
    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Powder coat finish resists wear and corrosion
  • Simple, bolt-on installation
    • Mounts with existing bolts
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 30,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 3,500 lbs - 5,500 lbs
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • Average break-in period for hitch = 1,000 miles.
  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the king pin, which connects to the fifth-wheel hitch in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the king pin will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the king pin moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the pin's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Hands dow the best Fifthwheel hitch you can buy. I had this hith over a year now and is the best one i ever had.

by:

The site says free shipping. I am a week past the delivery date and I am spending an hours on hold trying to track my package down. Don’t waste your time with etrailer just buy it from the manufacturer and get better service.

by:

It definitely smooths out the ride and reduces chucking. Not entirely but a large amount.

by:

After about a year, and ~15k miles I’m very happy with the Gen-Y. Currently on a trip to Alaska and I love how when going over bumps I can look back and see the Gen-Y doing it’s job and absorbing the bumps without passing them on to the 5er frame.

by:

Installed on my 2018 Grand Design Momentum 395m 3 axle toy hauler. Immediate improvement with chucking. This should help with any FRAME FLEX that you hear so much about. Fingers crossed.

by:

I would rate it a 5Star, on the customer service and the delivery. I was also impressed that it was delivered on or very close to the date given at time of order.
Haven’t towed it yet with the new equipment installed. Will be towing it next week on Tuesday, looking forward to it. Will go back and leave comments on how it does.

I hope everything is ok with this replacement king pin. I am happy to help. Please reach out if you have any concerns.

by:

This hitch makes towing our 44ft toy hauler a pleasure

by:

Install went smooth. I'm 75 and with a small car jack on my truck tail gate it went very quickly. Blocked the pin end on bed so it wouldn't tip and jacked up the back. Got one rear hole lined up bolted and then just jacked up the pin end and put those bolts in. I will hook it up today and see how it sets. Might have to lower my truck hitch one notch if it sits too high - we will see. ( Momentum 395 MS/ F350)

by:

This pinbox fixed two problems I was having. I can know turn 90 degrees and I have up to 10 inches of clearance from top of bed rail to 5th wheel overhang

by:

Excellent hitch, rides smooth and quit e.

The Gen-Y hitch is very stout & well built. Fit & finish was excellent.
Installed myself in about 30 minutes.

by:

The Gen-Y gooseneck has been excellent! I now have approximately 12k miles on mine and it rides very nicely with very limited chucking and handles rough roads very well. I’d highly recommend that you contact Gen-Y BEFORE ordering to ensure you get the correct load rating product. Gen-Y and Etrailer have provided excellent customer and tech support! This product definitely frees up your truck bed and does require a precise line up to hitch.

by:

The box for the hitch was absolutely destroyed, the hitch has damage to the powder coat on most sides. Almost no packaging in the box, not sure how you guys pack these but this $[XX] hitch is beat up pretty bad. Really disappointed and i don't have time to had it repowder coated as i am picking up the new camper tomorrow with this hitch and now this one is going to rust.

by:

Shipping on this item was quick and packaged extremely well. The GenY hitch exceeded our expectations. We just completed a 600 mile trip. In the first 100 miles we noticed some stiffness, but after that it loosened up and on the return home we definitely noticed a difference. The hitch is very easy to hook up and as long as you are within a few inches the hitch will center itself and slide onto the ball. We towed with an F350 6 3/4 foot bed and I do not see any need for the 4 inch extension ball setup. A subcompact tractor makes 1 person install of the hitch a complete breeze. The angle is perfect. I ordered the GenY chains and mounting bolts and all worked very well.

by:

This hitch reduced chucking very well, I have a 2004 3500 Dodge Ram 4x4 Conestoga riding truck with very stiff suspension, the torsion action of the hitch definitely helps when crossing bridges and pot holes. The 5th wheel is an older Keystone Copper Canyon that is in great shape. I Have 12K miles with the new hitch.

by:

I provided the specs on my 5th wheel (Grand Design Momentum 351 MS) when ordering the pinbox. I had the Gen-Y pinbox mounted and used it for about 5-months to find later that the pinbox was not the proper pinbox for my 5th wheel while having Independent Suspension installed. I replaced the Gen-Y with a MoRryde pinbox while at MoRrdye. Not a good experience and a loss of funds.

by:

Great product. The fit and finish is perfect. The trailer tows so much smoother and the chucking is almost gone. The extra bed space is a great bonus.

by:

Invoices were confusing. They said I was getting two Gen Y hitches? Then when it actually came down to tracking it appeared I was getting the wrong one. Afte a few emails and phone calls, Will did get that cleared up. Then they shipped my chains to someone else and I got their package, an awning support bracket of some sort. Again a few emails and phone calls Will did get this cleared up as well and shipped the chains to me, but I had to make a trip to the UPS shipper to get the awning support back to them. Real roller coaster...

by:

I have towed now for a few thousand miles since changing to this pin box and honestly wish I had done this years ago! It tows so much better than my 5th wheel box did! Feels more stable, no more bucking and so much softer and better feel when towing! Not to mention so much less hassle dealing with a 5th wheel hitch!

by:

Simple design, very robust construction, made a vast improvement in towing ride quality.
Easy install by myself, Engine hoist, utility cart and motorcycle jack...ya I have "stuff".
I will need to lower my B&W slide about 2inches to get back to level towing. Calculator that Gen Y has for selecton is spot on , I was a bit worried as my measured tounge weight was 2700 +/- lbs 22% of GVWR (14,400) was 3168 so I ordered the 4.5k model
When hiched for the first time...indicator was in the middle of the green (perfect).
Very happy ... next Im adding shock absorbers to see if i can smooth the trailer hop a bit more.

by:

Makes life a lot easier l don’t have to remove my hitch from the bed of my truck to use it. Just flip the ball and there you go.
The gooseneck hitch actually pulls better than the 5th wheel hitch I had.
It is rather heavy so come up with a good plan for installing, I used the front end loader on my tractor which allowed me to do the install by myself.
Great product!!!

  • Can Gen-Y Pin Box Replace Lippert 1621 SHD 21K for Better Clearance
Thank you for the information and photo! I was able to determine that you have a 1621 SHD (super heavy duty) pin box rated for 21K. The Gen-Y equivalent is found as part # GY68GR for a 4.5K tongue weight or part # GY46FR for a 5.5K tongue weight. While these are excellent replacement options in and of themselves, if the clearance issue is between the cab on your 2021 GMC Denali and the box on the 5th wheel trailer we'll need to go with the MORryde Cushioned 5th Wheel Pin Box # MR24VR instead...

  • Correct Gen-Y Hitch Executive Pin Box for a 9,300 lb GVWR 5th Wheel Trailer
The shocks on the Gen-Y Hitch Executive will help to improve your start/stop ride quality while flat towing, especially if you are currently using an un-cushioned pin box from the factory. The part # GY46FR you're looking at has a tongue weight range of 2,500 lbs - 5,500 lbs which is quite high for your 9,300 lb GVWR trailer so we need to use the part # 325-GH-8040 instead which is meant for a tongue weight range of 1,501-3,000 lbs. Please note this pin box is a replacement for a box...

  • What is The Tongue Weight Range For The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box # GY46FR?
The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box # GY46FR does have a pin weight capacity of 3,500-5,500lbs. The pin weight you found on Gen-Y's website is on their worksheet for those who do not know their actual pin weight. They use a generic number 22% which I can tell you is an average number and as you have some 5th wheels which are going to have a higher or lower amount of tongue weight they go with a safe weight range on that form.

  • Determining The Correct Capacity Gen-Y 5th Wheel Pin Box For A Grand Design Momentum 397TH
Gen-Y's calculation for pin weight is a safe guess, but isn't the most accurate so the only way you'll get the correct capacity Gen-Y 5th Wheel Pin Box is to fully load the trailer and go to a commercial scale to measure the pin weight. With the 5th wheel trailer attached to your truck you'll drive on the scale so that only the 4 wheels of the truck are position on the scale. Write down this weight and then detach the trailer and weigh the truck again. The difference between these two...

My research indicates that your 2021 Heartland Cyclone 4007 is equipped with a Lippert 1621 pin box, but you'll want to confirm that for yourself by checking out the label on the pin box. If you can get me the serial number printed there, I can contact Lippert and have them decode it for me. If you do indeed have the Lippert 1621, the Gen-Y # GY46FR Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box would be a direct replacement for your existing OEM pin box.

Gen-Y uses the formula GVWR x 0.22 to calculate pin weight. The # GY46FR you were looking at is designed for a pin weight calculation of 3,600-4,599 lbs. Looking at the current 44FB the GVWR is 27,000 lbs which puts you at 5,940.
