Extruded aluminum, basket-style cargo carrier is lightweight and rustproof. Raised side rails help keep cargo in place while also providing limitless tie-down options. Hitch pin and clip included. The carrier is well-built and fairly easy to assemble. When inserted on the Jeep Wrangler it cleared the spare tire and tail lights. It did block the license plate though. I installed it with a e98856 which had the opening for the receive about even with the bumper. The rear door will not open with the carrier installed.
Pretty solid unit, lots of nuts and bolts. Instructions could use a bit of help. Make sure everything is oriented correctly before assembling. I also installed the brackets inside the unit instead of outside.I used stainless hardware everywhere I could. That's just me. The light kit, Rola LED Light Kit for Railed Cargo Carriers - 59516 along with the Trailer Light Mounting Bracket for 6-1/2" Oval Trailer Lights, Steel - Black Powder Coat - BK70BB is a nice add-on. It took some retooling of the upper rear cross-member to properly fit brackets and lights to my liking. No cob-jobbing here. removed the top rear cross-member, removed parts of the flange, the brackets and light kit bolted right up level and tight. Had to move a couple of brackets also, no big deal. Don't know if a flat bracket is available, that would be ideal. All in all I am very satisfied. Dealing with etrailer always cake. Check out the pictures.
Very nice carrier! Easy assembly! The only thing is it should come with flat washer.

Works great! Great product for the money!
Never assembled one of these b4 and it was a lot easier than expected! I read reviews first and did not follow directions either. I looked it over and it is easier if u install base first and use washers both top and bottom and put vertical braces on the inside. Will be more rigid. (Retired Mech. Eng)

Working great!
The fore-aft spacing between the pin location and the forward end of the carrier should be lengthened by a couple inches to provide better access for an open end wrench or pliers to tighten the pin nut. As-is it is very difficult to get a wrench in there to tighten the pin nut. Otherwise, I'm happy with the product.
I like it. Well made it seems. Very light. Easy to put together with a screwdriver and a nut driver. I have not yet used it.
Comes with a hitch pin
I love this cargo carrier. It's all aluminum (except for the hitch mount) and extremely well made.
I'll use it with my class B motorhome and my pick up truck when I need to take additional cargo.
The product I ordered is wonderful. Lightweight and is large enough to carry my scuba tanks and wet gear which I had NO intention of placing in my new Infiniti.
It arrived quickly and took about 40 minutes by myself to put together.
Customer service answered all my questions and the whole transaction was painless and professional. if I ever need another trailer, etrailer is the place I will purchase from.
a very useful device handy and was perfect for placing my wife's mobility scooter on it. survived Chicago winters.
Study and design for my needs!
Everything went together perfectly and it is really a nice thing
Lightweight and easy to attach and remove
Gary is really satisfied with the hitch and the cargo carrier
Thank you
Just what I was looking for! My main use for the cargo carrier is to bring the garbage to the dump. I will also be taking a long road trip so I plan on using it for all my luggage. It will be a great room saver in the car!
Nice and light
Did not receive all the parts to the carrier. The top rack was missing.
I'm a 62 year old woman. I put this together myself with not too much difficulty. You really need a socket wrench to hold the nut while you screw in the screws. I very much appreciate the lightweight of this as I can put it on the car myself. Very sturdy!
It has been a great addition to my Jeep Wrangler for carrying extra cargo when traveling. It is easy to assemble and install.
Easy assembly. Easy to understand instructions. Assembly took a little longer than I expected, only due to a lot of screws and bolts to tighten. This is my third purchase from etrailers, and I highly recommend them. Customer Service is great as well.
Easy to assemble and light weight. I'm not as strong as I used to be so that was important. Mostly want it for carrying items (like a gas can or bags of dirt) that I don't want inside my Jeep. Two things I think could improve it are 1) shorter screws to prevent scratching/affecting the cargo and 2) side reflectors.
Nice carrier. Instructions for putting together the unit are JUNK. Ignore the instructions and use common sense. Make sure you orient the top and bottom to install the reflectors. Install the supports and bracing on the inside of the unit not the outside as the picture shows on the box. Maximum support would be to install the supports on the inside. Keep all screws somewhat loose until you install all supports. Start in one place with the supports and work your way around the unit in order to keep all holes properly aligned. I installed the supports with the lines facing outward to match the lines on the top and bottom. Ace Hardware carries a bar handle (like used in placing 2x4 across a door). This can be attached to the name plate on the rear with 1/4x20 bolts and then use the battery powered light from etrailer to place a magnetic light on the rear of the carrier. That way, you can attach the light when necessary. Snug up all screws once the supports and bracing are in place.

Nice unit. Looks good and holds up well under use.
Product arrive ahead of scheduling in perfect condition. Assembly took about 2 hours ...lots of nuts and bolts. I like the design. Should be perfect for my application.
My order arrived on time as initially projected. Assembly took only an hour and was made easier by reading recent customer feedback. Prior customer feedback suggesting orienting brackets with stripes facing out while mounting on the inside, along with sequencing and only hand-tightening fasteners, all proved helpful. Initially aligning top to bottom frame with reflector double holes was key to starting off on the right foot. Presetting electric screw gun torque with a relatively light stop, helped to cinch screw without deforming aluminum frame or phillips head screws. Nice quality product and well packaged.

Product continues to work like a charm. Glad I bought the aluminum unit as its easier to handle and certainly strong enough.
Nice finished product, but involves a lot of assembly using small bolts and lock nuts. If I were to do it again, I would attach the hitch tube before attaching the upper frame to the lower frame. Following the sequence in the instruction manual hinders your ability to square up a screw driver which is needed to tighten the bolts and lock nuts. I had to run to the local hardware store to replace 4 of 8 bolts and lock nuts because I stripped the bolt head while trying to tighten them. Otherwise, a really nice product.

As good as when I bought it a year ago.
Used the carrier the first time over the weekend to haul some trash bags and recycling cans. Installing the carrier into the hitch was easy- the aluminum constructions makes for light work. The pin and clip worked great, and there was no play (that I could hear or feel) while driving.

Cargo carrier has worked great. Sturdy and done the jobs that I have expected of it. Thanks.
Only assembled, not yet used. There are a lot of nuts and bolts! Agree that a hex head instead of Phillips head would be better. Better yet, make it a torx head and include the bit! Other observation is agreement with others not to snug anything up until all assembled...then tighten everything. Also, would have been easier to attach the tongue to the bottom frame first (IMO). After assembly it seems to be pretty solid. I am thinking about rigging some kind of heat shield neat Subaru Outback exhaust just to be sure to prevent burn/melt of plastic corner and protect materials in carrier. Also will add reflective tape to back frame for additional visibility. Will report performance after 2000 mile move to Colorado.

Has held up well and I like the light weight aluminum. I never rigged any heat shield and there has been no issue in that regard. I added reflective tape to the exterior of the frame for visibility and safety. I am pleased with the product.
I like the product and would buy it again. However, one thing to be aware of is the location of your exhaust relative to the carrier, which may be an issue on long trips at highway speeds in the summertime when the exhaust is particularly hot. The plastic corner connectors on the carrier that were next to the exhaust on our Subaru Forester, and a plastic bin in the carrier, melted during a long trip we took last summer. One thing I do really like about the carrier is its light weight, which makes it so easy to install and remove. Since I don't have a truck, it's been very handy for taking trash and recycling to the transfer station.

It is a good idea to get a exhaust tip that turns away from the cargo carrier to avoid damage. If you have a 3 inch tailpipe you would need part # MF35180. For 2 3/4 inch you would need part # MF35179, for 4 inch tailpipes you can use part # MF35181, and for 3 1/2 inch you would need part # MF35178. These exhaust tips need to be welded on.

Used it quite a few times. I use a hitch tightener to eliminate rattles. Received several compliments on the light kit. All in all it has performed admirably. No issues with exhaust heat either. Get one.
