Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.
To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.
The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.
The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.
Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

This Weight Distribution System was purchased in conjunction with a tongue weight scale. Between the two, what had been an outright scary towing experience it now extremely pleasant in comparison. I recently installed the system and towed my show car in an enclosed 20’ trailer over 250 miles. I experienced none of the sway previously experienced during crosswinds or when semis past by. No more than I experience with just the truck sans trailer on the open road. I now feel safe, secure and confident. I have a short-bed, regular cab pick-up and tow a 20’ enclosed car transport, GVW of the trailer and show car varies between 6,000 and 7,000lbs depending on which car I’m showing and the supplies placed in the trailer.
The Fastway e2 is working great. It has made a big difference in handling and a smoother ride. We're very happy with this product and glad we got it. We gave it a 4 just because the install was a little more complicated than we thought. We are novices though, so it may be easy for others.
I’ve owned this about a year now. It seems to do its job. My only concern are the vertical L bars on each side tend to ‘lean’ and aren’t perfectly plumb even when we’ve tightened to indicated specs.
We have used the hitch almost six years without issue. Great hitch and amazing customer service after someone "borrowed" one of our bars without letting us know and forgot to leave us a note. When I shop for another hitch I'll be shopping for another Fastway E2.
Has worked real good for a first time puller. Self installed, with a little help from the pros, but easy hook up and go. Feels real nice on the road, but not real familiar with pulling a trailer without one. Much better to buy and install than the fortune the dealer wanted to charge me.

This hitch has been performing very well! It was pretty easy to install (once you understand the concept of weight-distribution). It does exactly what you’d expect and the quality is good. My only complaint is the metal tabs used to release the bars from the hitch; they are very thin and slippery.
Bought this hitch for a newly acquired 24’ travel trailer. I liked the idea of the simple flat bars that reduce sway and distribute load. Long story short my trailer ended up whipping uncontrollably and I luckily was able to keep it upright despite being up on two wheels (tandem axel). I will admit I was negligent in not hitting the brakes on my brake controller being new to the travel trailer world. However I setup the hitch exactly how the instruction manual said. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! If you insist on buying a weight distribution hitch with sway control buy one with a separate adjustable sway controller. Etrailer please don’t continue advertising this product as having any type of sway reduction. This product almost killed my family and I. BUYER BEWARE!

Im sorry that you had that experience, Ive been there myself, and it is indeed frightening! Let me begin by saying that the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution system does indeed offer a proven sway control component by the pressure exerted by the spring bars onto the trailer frame mounted brackets. In a good, better, best scenario, Id consider the e2 at the high end of better. So, given this, there are many things that could have potentially caused the sway occurrence you experienced, such as initial adjustment of the system, the way the trailer is loaded and using a system thats improperly rated for the trailers tongue weight which should include the weight of gear in the truck bed behind the rear axle. The setup of the system could be adjusted further for maximum effectiveness. Check that the trailer is being towed so that its as close to level as is possible. The tension placed on the frame brackets can be increased by tilting the trailer ball rearward. Increased tension equals more sway control. If tilting the ball rearward puts the trailer tongue below level, you can raise the weight distribution head on the shank by one set of holes. Improper loading of the trailer with too much weight in front of the axles can cause sway, but this happens more with cargo trailers. Having an improperly rated weight distribution system can lead to a swaying trailer. Weight distribution systems are rated for a range of tongue weights, usually a 400-600 lb spread. Ideally, youll want your trailers tongue weight which includes anything stowed in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle to come as close as possible to the midpoint of the systems effective range. For instance, this particular e2 system is rated for tongue weights between 400-800 lbs. Many folks neglect to include the weight of gear behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle when choosing a system, which can lead to an overloaded system. Ideally, for this system the trailers tongue weight should be around 600 lbs. These are the primary reasons for trailer sway, but there are other possibilities such as pavement condition, improperly inflated trailer tires, worn or damaged suspension components or something as simple as the occasional straight-line wind gust running perpendicular to the highway. Ive linked to our Weight Distribution/Sway Control FAQ article, which contains more information about the differences between systems, as well as additional information about how weight distribution and sway control work. As mentioned earlier, the e2 is a pretty decent system-theres only a few Id consider better. The Reese Strait-Line system, # RP66084 for tongue weights ranging from 600-1200 lbs or # RP66083 for 400-800 lb tongue weights. The Strait-Line is what Id consider top of the line, it will force the trailer to stay in line behind the tow vehicle, unless you make a deliberate turn. Another option that Id consider are the Equal-i-zer systems like the # EQ37120ET for an 800-1200 lb tongue weight trailer or # EQ37060ET for a 200-600 lb tongue weight or # EQ37100ET for 600-1000 lbs of tongue weight. This system operates similarly to the e2, but instead of sway being resisted at 2 points, the Equalizer has a 4-point sway control, with the tension being applied at the point where the bars attach to the weight distribution head and the point where the bars contact the trailer frame brackets. A separate sway control unit like you mentioned, such as # 83660 is considered an-entry level sway control, will resist mild to moderate sway only, it would not be super-effective on a 24 foot travel trailer. Great weight distribution system. Works well with my travel trailer. Install was easy and quick. I got it done within an hour.
I worked great. I like the round bar that is below the trailer jack post. so if I go through a low spot it will slide on the round bars and not catch the trailer jack.
All the parts were there, even though UPS destroyed the box and left it sitting at the depot in town and I had to go pick it up, myself!
I bought this weight distribution hitch for my 2,900 mile journey from CA to FL. I was towing a 20 x 8.5 cargo trailer containing all of my worldly possessions. Including 2 rather large safes and a Harley. I was pulling the trailer with my Ram 1500. I would not have been able to properly tow this big of a trailer without the hitch. I did have a couple of issues. But they were my fault and very easy to resolve.
The Fastway Weight Distribution Hitch with anti-sway works great. I installed Firestone Airlifts to my suspension as well. Very stable ride. The combination of air bags and WDH makes us feel a bit safer as well. It's fun to see folks on the highway who got it right, as opposed to those that didn't. This hitch may be load rated a little high for my set-up though - not much flex to the 8,000 lb. bars. We're pulling a 2003 Casita Spirit Deluxe with 2001 Isuzu Rodeo with only 205 HP...We are taking a two week trip next month. After, we will purchase a Toyota TRD Off Road Premium for the next trip - a little more HP and modern electronics! I think the Fastway the best setup for the money. We could have sprung for the Anderson system, but, why? This one does what is supposed to do. The only thing I would like to see improved is the noise it makes when turning corners sometimes. The bars make a pretty loud screeching sound. Like a large metal cattle gate with rusty hinges opening real slow. Any ideas on how to quiet this down? We're not supposed to lubricate. That would take the safety out of the anti-sway. Thank you Lisa D. for all of the time spent with me figuring out the best options for our needs.

The noise you hear is caused by the metal-on-metal friction caused by the downward force applied to the frame brackets by the spring bars. This friction is what provides the sway control. As you mentioned, lubricating the contact points would completely defeat the sway control feature. Unfortunately, the noise is just the nature of the beast with this type of product.

Working out well. I think I would order the 6,000 lb. Round bars if I had to do it again. The 8,000 lb. Bars ride a little rough. I now have a 2018 4runner for a TV and not using air bags. Much better in terms of HP and ride.
The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution hitch has been excellent for towing my 5000lb travel trailer, and was a good deal here on etrailer.com. The 2 way sway control keeps everything steady, and is the best I have ever used in my many years of towing travel trailers. The only problem I have experienced with it, is that when pulling out of Gas Stations or anywhere there is a small curb or gutter, it tends to drag. This usually causes the sway bar mount to get knocked out of alignment.

Still working great after a year and many miles.
The Fastway E2 hitch works great and was really easy to assemble. Just had a hard time getting the ball and nut on because there isn't a socket that fits in the location the nut sits. So we put a pipe wrench on the ball side. Other then that, this hitch is built well and you can back up with it all hooked up, it bolts on easily and serves 2 purposes.
The lady from etrailer.com that I spoke with was the best of all. She has the know how and experience to get me set up with the proper size hitch. Or I would have done the bigger is better thing.

Great price and easy to set up and adjust. This makes a huge difference in sway control in windy conditions. I have only needed to adjust the weight distribution a few times, but it is easy to do. Thanks for the great product!

We have had a year of great travel and our Fastway E2 weight distribution hitch has been great. I need to use a sleeve to fit the tongue to my receiver class 5, but that has been a minimal nuance. Checking the torque on the hardware is very important before each trip to maintain flawless performance.
The design of the system I don't like very much, the "L" brackets on the trailer hang down to low for my 4ft extention that I have to run, and they end up hitting any little dip in the road or when your pulling into a gas station, did try adjusting them up but I am at my max height right now and they still hang to low, I highly recomend buying a chain system this would eleminate the problem I am having.

If you buy a product that does not suit your specific needs Dont blame the product. Be smart and order something that works with your 4 extension. By the way the chain system wont make a difference in the height of your bars. Robert P.
Very happy with the product. It was a little stiff & took a lot of strength to get the bars up into place, but I hope it will loosen up in time a bit. It really helped to even out the weight of my truck to the trailer I hooked it up to. I was happy with the way the trailer towed behind my truck with this on it. This was my 1st purchase from e-trailer, the product was just as described & shipped very quickly. I was impressed with e-trailer & will be happy to do business with them again, if I need any future items.

The bars will be easier to get onto the brackets if you use the trailer jack to raise the trailer while its still hitched to the vehicle. Raising the rear of the vehicle a bit will take some of the tension off the bars, which will make them easier to move.
It was what was expected. To mount the ball correctly though you definitely need the special Proprietary socket for $[XX] (yikes) cuz a regular thin wall won’t fit. On delivery the box was shredded to the point where the shank was separated from the box but all the parts made it. etrailer needs to ship in a second stronger carton so this doesn’t happen. Just follow the well written instructions and your good to go.
Product arrived in excellent condition. Great tracking system. Arrived exactly on the day tracking system saids it would. Great service.

Easy to install, set up, and works beautifully every time. Truck drives better and feels more solid/grounded fully loaded with this system than it does alone (even better than pulling the old pop-up trailer)! Never get that push/pull of the trailer again!
During initial installation, I didn't have a loaded trailer or truck, so made some educated guesses on bracket and hitch heights. Took 1.5hrs doing it myself (including taking measurements, etc). On our first camping trip, with the trailer fully loaded and all 6 people and gear in the truck, I needed to raise the tongue brackets one hole, which took 10min. Since then it has never needed adjustment and every time I use it I'm thankful for how easy it is to set up and dead useful it is.
Lastly, the included shank was too short for my truck/trailer combo (needed an additional 1" of drop), so purchased a longer one at the same time.

Excellent hitch, works great!
This WD hitch works absolutely great .Was not difficult to install as long as you read and follow the instructions. Also they have a step by step video which is very helpful. It really made a difference and I felt more in control on the road.

Works very good at weight distribution and helping with sway control. Once you get it dialed in with the trailer it's consistent and pretty much fool proof. Not for someone feeble as getting the trailing arms up into the bracket can be a handful and requires some muscle using the included "helper". Carry a rubber mallet with you to get the trailing arm off the bracket and help get the pins in place and you shouldn't have any problem hitching up.
One year later, everything is still great. It handles the sway and the load very well. I wish it had an adjustment for the amount of tension like the ones with short sections of chain because I have a toy hauler and my load varies greatly and unloaded, I need almost no tension at all. It’s a trade-off because I don’t need an anti-sway bar when using this hitch. I can also park and maneuver the trailer without all of the pops and clangs that the hitches with adjustable chains have.
