I cannot yet figure out how to remove the plunger pin from the old ASCO breakaway switch to allow this one to be inserted. I will likely be returning it.

Before you return it, I wanted to reach out and give a tip. Please see the question link below. We have had this question before and the answer along with the drawing will help.

by:

Coiled cord when extended is a little shorter than I thought it would be. However, overall happy with the product. Definitely a neater solution than dragging the wire rope all over that I had before.

Very fast delivery and good customer service follow up from Martha O!

by:

much better than a steel cable hanging all over the place.

by:

I definitely prefer this over the long wire that RV manufacturers/dealerships usually include.

by:

Absolutely perfect!!

by:

Will put it on today.

by:

As described.

by:

I like these no more looping cable in and out of chain links to keep other style from dragging.

by:

I didn't work as expected. It was the wrong type to fit into my breakaway switch. I wish they were of a standard type.
I will be using it in the future with a compatible switch on another trailer.

This item is compatible with most but not all breakaway systems.

Never used it. It may be used some day.

by:

as described..works well.

by:

Very simple item all trailers should have - complements safety cables like C80176 - Replaced both the original safety chains and breakaway cables on two new trailers. The convenience is well worth it.........

by:

The Fastway Zip Coiled Trailer Breakaway Cable was exactly what I needed to replace the standard breakaway cable which started to become worn. This cable should stay completely out of the way for as long as I own this trailer.

by:

As always I recieved my merchandise in a timely manner, ans it was exactly what it was advertised to be. I have purchased a couple thousand dollars of etrailer parts and I am always very satisfied whith their service and the very courteous and helpful staff they employ. I will continue to buy all my trailer needs from etrailer in the future. Thanks so much.

by:

Replaced the standard cable with this one. Really like that it has a carabiner instead of a simple loop, doesn't dangle close to the road, and has a high visibility protective coating.
It's much less likely that I would forget to disconnect it, which is why I needed to replace the original in the first place!

by:

Great product! Don't have to worry about wrapping up breakaway cable to prevent dragging the ground anymore!

by:

This coiled cable is so much easier to use than the wire our emergency brake switch came with. No tangles and so slipping around the safety chains

by:

A little too short for use on my 5th wheel hitch. I have yet to try it.

by:

Worked as described. Having a clip on makes using the break away very convenient.

by:

just what I needed , now the breakaway cable will not drag again. Thanks

by:

Excellent product, I was worried about it fitting but it was a perfect match to my brake module. My second time getting this, the first one is going on 3 years with no issues.

by:

Great product! Much better than having a steel cable hanging loosely between the trailer and tow vehicle. Easier to attach to the tow vehicle as well. A simple solution to correcting this issue.

by:

Just as described, great product. At full extension (4'), it's tight, so make sure it is the appropriate length for your application.

by:

No complaints

by:

The product is as expected, but the service from etrailer was not so good. Need improvement in shipping

by:

Every trailer needs one of these!

  • Replacement Coiled Breakaway Cable Options For A 2020 Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro 19FD
Since you have a 4' breakaway cable any 4' coiled cable can be used. You can use the Fastway # FA80-01-2204, which will come with the plunger as well or the Fastway # FA80-01-2140 if you're plunger is still is good shape, you'll just hook the split ring on the cable end through the hole on the back of the plunger to connect the two together and the carabiner can be attached to the tow loops on your hitch when towing. I've attached videos below for both of these cables to show you how they...

  • Installation of Fastway Zip Coiled Trailer Breakaway Cable
Yes, the Fastway Zip Coiled Breakaway Cable # FA80-01-2204 has the pin that inserts into the switch. When you pull the pin out of the breakaway system it will engage the brakes. Then after inserting the new pin they will disengage. Doing this with the trailer plugged into the truck can cause a back feed to the brake controller and possibly damaging it. So make the switch with the trailer disconnected from the truck. When towing you'll connect the cable to your tow vehicle using the...

  • Replacement Pin Recommendation for Fastway Weight Distribution System
The only replacement pin I can recommend for a Hopkins breakaway kit is the part # HM20012. If you wanted the coiled design of the Fastway kit you'd need to replace the switch too with the part # FA80-00-2040 and you'd be set. While the pins aren't all universal between brands we've found that the switches are.

  • Correct Length of Breakaway Cable for my Artic Fox 22G
Basically in some towing setups when you make a sharp turn you can as you said stretch the cable going to the breakaway switch with the 48" standard length breakaway cable. If it were to be pulled to much during a turn it could pull out of the breakaway switch and cause you trailer brakes to lock up. If you are experiencing any tension on that cable at all during turns switch to the Fastway Zip Coiled Trailer Breakaway Cable part # FA80-01-2206 this is 6' long and will help to ensure you...

  • Can the Fastway Zip Coiled Trailer Breakaway Cable # FA80-01-2204 be Used for a 5th Wheel
Since the Fastway Zip Coiled Trailer Breakaway Cable # FA80-01-2204 is basically a universal fit I don't see any reason why you couldn't use it for a 5th wheel application.

  • Trailer Brake Breakaway Switch & Cable
Since your travel trailer has onboard house batteries, the break away brake will be powered by those. To replace the breakaway switch and/or cable I recommend the Fastway # FA80-00-2040 which includes the tongue mounted switch. If you have the switch and only need the lanyard I recommend the Fastway # FA80-01-2204. I have this same line attached to my travel trailer. I like that the coiled line keeps it away from the ground and the large carabiener clip makes it each to hook on to the...

  • Is There A DOT Regulation For The Strength Of Carabiners In A Brakeaway System?
I am not aware of any type of DOT regulation regarding the strength of a carabiner on a brakeaway system. We install brakeaway systems like the # FA80-01-2204 here at our shop in Missouri very frequently and this has never come up as an issue. In general, the only regulation for a brakeaway is that it must be sufficient to apply the trailer brakes for at least 15 minutes if pulled. All of the brakeaway cables and carabiners we carry will be of sufficient strength for this purpose.
