I am happy with door springs and they were easy to install. I installed them on my snowmobile trailer which had a heavy door that I struggled with every time. Now with one hand and little effort the door is easy to close and and open. I would give this a 5 star but the screws holding the pulley tight on the bar keep slipping which means making an adjustments several times a year.

Overall, after one year, I am still very happy with my purchase. I had to adjust it one time when the pulley screw loosened about the main shaft but, that was it. Others have noticed this improvement they are looking forward to adding it to theirs as well.

Thanks so much Ashley for the great job you did getting that product out during the Christmas season. I did the installation today ,I just finished it. All I can say is if you can follow directions and read it's very easy to install. I found the product to be as good as the OEM. I will attach pictures to show you installation, and so that you can rest your little mind that I included the safety straps and closed . Thanks again for your help.

First, shipping was really fast. After I ordered I received a email saying my order had already shipped. I ordered on a Tuesday and was able to install my equipment during the weekend. I have a smaller 6 x 10 trailer and I only utilized 1 torsion spring which gave me a back up spring for reserve. After installing the unit with new tension cables my ramp door works smooth and I’m really happy to have my trailer back in service again. etrailer understands the importance of getting customers product out as soon as possible. I thank you for your professionalism and will recommend your company in the future.

Great price and fast shipping. Packaged well and has everything you need besides the wrenches rods to wind spring. Very easy to install. Since I had been brackets already it took me about 45 minutes including taking the old one off. And I already had the rods to wind spring up which is a must. Thanks.

I've installed about five door springs so I have the process down. it's good to leave extra pipe when you cut it down to size. This leaves wiggle room for additional adjustment.

You need to watch the cable angle when the door is closed. It should be as close to perpendicular the wheel as possible. If there is much angle it can rub on the ribs on the winding wheel and damage the cable. My new trailer from Cargo Mate/Continental was improperly installed and they cut the pipe too short. I could not adjust the cable angle and it ate the cable.

Check the cable with the door open as well to insure it's not too close to the door opening where it can rub. The Cargo Mate/Continental trailers have the ramp cable mounting tab constructed really far outward.

This is really not ideal for the way spring kits are designed. It really should be inwards about 1/2" more. This causes you to really need to do an installation with perfect leeway or the cable will have too much would angle when the door is closed or it will rub on the ramp opening when the ramp is down.

I find using a pair of Vice Grips is handy for getting the cable winding pulleys wound tightly to avoid having any slack when the door is closed. If you have any slack the cable can bind up and ruin the cable.

I used two old wheel barrow axles to make winding rods. No place I know of will sell the winding rods. When winding the springs stand to the side of the rods so if something goes wrong you are not in the path of where a rod could be thrown.

My door closer called for winding ten times but nine actually worked perfectly. Ten spins of the spring caused the ramp door to float some. The dual spring sets up are much better because if one spring breaks the other will prevent the heavy ramp from free falling.

Periodically check the cable when the door is closed for stretch. If the ramp is down on uneven ground and something heavy is loaded it can cause one cable to become out of adjustment where it needs to be tightened.

Great, I already have posted a review so I wont add more about the product or install. I will say that you need to be aware that the mounting points on the ramp MUST be set inward at least 1/2. Im not sure what specs are in the directions. One of my trailers is a a Forest River trailer and they did not correctly mount the ramp cable mounts in the correct spot. These trailers go by the names Continental Cargo and Cargo Mate out of the Waco TX plant. If you own one of these trailers the cables may rub on the door opening and cause cables to break. I do not recommend buying any Forest River trailers for this and many other reasons.

Recently purchased this trailer ramp dual spring to replace my single spring. The original spring roller from factory snapped. Cut to fit it to 75 inches. Perfect replacement. Instructions very detailed and right on. Install time with spring adjustments 1 hour. Delivery was fast and product was priced competitively. Very happy. And dual springs just make more sense.

After a year of wear and tear, working perfectly. Remember oil the springs at least monthly

I have had swell results with etrailer. I am always confused why the customer satisfaction survey comes so soon. The spring is still in the box and had just arrived 3 hrs before the email to review it. I have to say the packaging is wonderful and hope the product is as good

I am happy with the way my door ramp works. I think I should take another turn on the springs to relieve more weight. I had a medical situation and have not gotten to it but the springs have plenty of lift left in them. Sure am happy with etrailer and will continue to shop with them for my towing needs

by:

Great product. Awesome price and accurately described. Used this to replace a spring in my car hauler that had lost one of the cables. Door opens smoothly and installation was a breeze.

Still doing great after a year!! I cant believe the difference it makes in leveling out the door and making it easier to open. I use the on a car hauler, which we use to store our summer toys. But we have used it several times to actually haul cars and the springs have held up perfectly!

by:

I installed the dual spring assist for my ramp door and I am very pleased as I have a bad back and was wondering how much longer I would be able to keep hauling my collector car. I live in a remote forest area and can't drive it without destroying all the work I have done to it.
My trailer is older but it works well for me.
Now I plan on updating the brakes and hubs next.
I updated the lights with LED's and suggest everyone to do the same.
Thanks, Don Parry

by:

The ramp door on our toyhauler was so extremely heavy to lift or lower. We removed the coil springs mounted at the hinges and install this lift system. Now my 7 year old grandson can raise and lower the door. It took about 2 hours to install.

by:

I didn't realize how much tension my old spring had lost until I installed this new one. My ramp door is heavier than most because I had to add a 2' flap for my 10' long custom. It was a strain to raise my ramp door before, but now I can raise it with one hand and have to hold onto the handle to keep it from slamming shut. After 1 year, it still as strong as when installed. This is a top quality spring and the included instructions made installation easy. I would and have recommended this spring to friends .

Part was delivered on time, and as described. Alex was super helpful and very polite. Look forward to using E-trailer in the future.

by:

Good product. Well packaged. Arrived very quickly. But came missing the hardware set. After a little back and forth with etrailer I was sent the missing hardware at no charge. They took care of the problem and for that I commend etrailer. The 5 Stars here are for how well etailer handled this issue. I would have demoted M-3 (the manufacturer) for mispacking the set, but that's not the fault of the seller. Thanks etrailer for good customer service.

by:

Bought a year ago installed on a trailer I made myself. works flawlessly.. I was worried because one of my buddies has a brand new trailer and his wires are always popping off his springs I have never had an issue and I use my trailer door 7-8 times daily through the summer. Could not be happier with this product

by:

Ordered a new pulley system for the trailer door. Arrived, in perfect condition and on time, actually a little earlier than I expected. Price was best price I could find and the part is a good quality part. Very Very Happy with this purchase and the whole experience. Will advise family and friends about etrailer for any of their trailer needs. Also, all the folks I spoke to were knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely nice.
Thanks for the part, quickly. You have definitely won my business for any trailer parts needs.

by:

The product was great. I up grated my enclosed trailer ramp spring with this dual spring. Now it don't take2 people to put the ramp up. I am so happy!! Shipping was fast and accurate. I will be back for more parts.

by:

The spring kit was installed without any problems. It is a quality product. No problems after about a year's time in use.

by:

I've used various trailer locks over the years. But this Master lock is the best that I have ever used.
Easy, secure, and gives you a better comfort level.

by:

This item is a must for a pool down trailer door it is impossible to lift without this product night and day difference one hand open and close compared to two guys open and close . Also thank you for your fast delivery and support

Constantly happy with etrailer. I purchase many products a year from them for a small fleet of enclosed landscaping trailers. Recently had a door spring assembly fail and had a new one dropped off today (2 days earlier than expected and quoted by the website) Now I can get the trailer back up and running by Monday!

by:

Absolutely best spring replacement you can buy. Very easy to install. Just make sure you’re careful when using the extension bar for tightening. Still working great after one year and weekly use.

by:

I needed this part for one of my maintenance crew trailers that runs daily. I was very impressed with how quick I received the new spring assembly, and so were my guys that had to lift the heavy door for a few days. The installation and instructions were easy to follow and the price was very reasonable. I now have a company to go to for all of my trailer needs. Thank you etrailer.com !

by:

Complete kit, no alterations or additional parts needed. Totally bolted into existing structure. Will use e-trailer again in the future.

by:

Easy installation. We welded our mounting brackets to the door header. We just took our time and had no problems.

  • Recommended Replacement Spring for a Conventional Ramp Door Spring for an Enclosed Trailer
Jared, the Replacement Cables for Conventional Ramp Door Spring # M339FR is not going to work with the Conventional Ramp Door Spring for 8' Wide Enclosed Trailer # 362SA8207 but it does work with the Conventional Ramp Door Spring for 8' Wide Enclosed Trailer # ERS160D96 which is the same thing but has a higher weight capacity.

  • Are the Bracket/pulleys Adjustable on the Conventional Ramp Door Springs part # 9500468
Yes they can. The Conventional Ramp Door Spring for 8' Wide Enclosed Trailer - Dual Spring part # ERS160D96 that you looked at is designed to accommodate a wide range of door openings. You can use the same attachment points your current door spring uses and have the added benefit of dual springs and cables. Any excess you may have on the cross tube can be cut to accommodate your trailer.

  • Weighing Door Ramp to Pick Out Ramp Door Spring
The way you weighed your ramp door is an accurate way to do so. Yours weighing 154 lbs would be an accurate figure to use when picking out a ramp. The part # ERS160D96 would work well for this as it has a capacity of 160 lbs which would work great with your ramp.

When installing a spring assist on your 8.5 foot wide trailer I recommend The Conventional Ramp Door Spring for 8 foot Wide Enclosed Trailer - Dual Spring - 250-lb Capacity # CB250D96SHD. This will work for you 8-1/2 foot because of where the springs actually mount. This dual-spring setup lets you easily open and close the ramp door on your enclosed trailer and eliminates the risk of it freefalling. It will fit trailer doors between 80 inches to 96 inches wide. It has a sturdy steel construction...

  • Replacement Left Hand Drum for M-3 Dual Ramp Springs
We actually carry the replacement left hand drum # DRUM-M-3LH which is for M-3 Dual Ramp Springs # ERS120D81 and # ERS160D96. Since this can be a tricky installation we do recommend that only someone with experience (like a local garage door company) do the install. If you have a different spring that we don't carry then you'll want to reach out to that manufacturer for replacement parts as these aren't necessarily universal pieces.

  • How to Correctly Position Ramp Door Spring for Installation
The spring with the black cable drum should always be mounted to your LEFT, standing on the inside of the trailer looking out. This is very important for proper operation. Dual spring systems, like # ERS160D96, have a red-coned and a black-coned spring so pay close attention to the colors. If the system is mounted upside down, the spring will grow in diameter when the system is wound. If the system is mounted properly, the springs should grow in length.
