The installation of the Big Bed Junior is quick and easy. Just slide the load extender into your 2" x 2" trailer hitch receiver. A hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock (sold separately) is required to secure the Big Bed Junior in your hitch.

Erickson Big Bed Jr as Load Extender

To use the Big Bed Junior as a bed extender, simply connect the support bar to the short end of the extension bar. The Big Bed Junior extends 4' from your trailer hitch receiver, giving you plenty of space to carry your lengthy cargo. The height of the mast can be adjusted to level the support bar with the bed of your truck. Two integrated tie-down points make it simple to secure your load.

Erickson Big Bed Jr as High Load Mount

You also have the option of converting the Big Bed Junior load extender into a high-mount load bar. Simply connect the support bar to the long end of the extension bar so that the support bar is level with the roof of your cab. This makes it easy to transport canoes, ladders, drywall, and other long items above your truck bed, and it frees up space in your truck bed for hauling other cargo.

Product worked as advertised and as expected. See photos - the only way to haul 16' lumber in the 5 1/2 foot bed of an F150. My only complaint was the limited height adjustment. I have a Decked drawer storage system in the back of my truck so the cross bar was too low on its highest setting. As shown in the photos, I had to add an 8 inch riser to get up to the level of the bed. But it was easy and worked well with this new part. Be careful on steep driveways so that the hitch extension does not scrape. Good product - worth the cost.

Thank you for your review. If you need a bed extender that allows for more height adjustability, I recommend the Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Load Extender part # Y01149 which can be adjusted to 46 inches in height.

I use the bed extender several times a week, and this thing is stout! I got it to help load and unload my Solo Skiff. I am able to stand on the lower hitch part and rest the Solo on it. I also use it as a step into the hed of my truck, 3500 GMC. I love this product.

Bed extender working great after a solid year of hard use. Minus a little rust from salt water exposure, it is flawless. Excellent purchase.

Shipped sooner than expected. Sturdy rack made to last. I added a tail/stop light for additional safety. Got the light and trailer plug here also.

I use it as a rooftop extender on my SUV. Works very well when I need to haul a few long boards or sheets of plywood. Saves on having to use my trailer for small loads.

by:

Best one in its class and price range. Worked great for canoe and kayak transport. Does wiggle a little bit, but hey, what do you want. I would suggest that if you are transporting something with a decent finish, like other than a cheap canoe or kayak that you consider using a lengthwise cut hollow pool noodle or pipe insulation wrapped around, and secured with duct tape, the T to protect from rubbing and scraping during transport or load/unload. If your transporting lumber or ladders, who cares. But the padding will prevent any sliding as well. When the load is secured with tie downs, the rattling is negligible and very secure. Well thought out product and I would recommend this one as reliable and very price competitive. Oh, and the black powder coat paint makes it look cool too.

Works fine. Ive gotten it stuck on trees and buried the end in a dirt embankment and no bending or twisting. Price is right and would I buy it again, of course. Would I recommend it to someone, absolutely...the only problem is that my friends are such cheapos that they would rather dent their cars and trucks with loading stuff, than to spend such a small price for the item...go figure.

by:

The extender was long enough but loose in the 2x2 hitch reciever. It should be a little wider for a tighter fit. Definitely need a hitch sway bar bracket. The T-bar was also loose (same reason) when fit over the extender. I opted to use a 3" bolt rather than the hitch pin (not shown in this picture), to keep it from swaying, although not in a dangerous way. Also highly suggest adding the pool noodles for visibility, less slippage for items, and also to keep potential damage to tailgate if accidentally lowered. The 14" extender previously mentioned added to this should allow for almoat all tailgates to open. Vehicle is a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited (New style)

by:

Ordered the Big Bed Junior Load Extender to haul my 12-foot kayak easily in the bed of my small pickup instead of having to deal with roof rack saddles on car (plus just the effort of lifting and loading). Installation was very simple and straightforward, and as the picture shows, it definitely gets the job done. Four stars vs. five b/c I am surprised at how much slop there is in both how the parallel-to-ground L-shaped bar fits in the hitch and how the crossbar fits on top. May do some duct-tape wrapping to reduce the amount of play in these fittings. That said, have driven locally on a bumpy gravel road and over RR crossing with no issues; have not yet tested hauling boat at highway speed. Five starts plus for etrailer customer service and shipping on my order, btw!

Amazing product. We can carry 3+ kayaks on the bed of our jeep truck. Def worth the money

by:

I've used this several times now and have no complaints. It's very sturdy and well made, and the simple design makes it very east to disassemble and store in the back seat of my truck. I works very well for its intended use, and unlike some others reviews I have no issues with it seeming "loose" or rattling, nor have I noticed this while I drive. If it were any more tight-fitting it would be more difficult to put together and take apart, and that would be a serious flaw. I'm very happy with this product. It makes loading, transporting, and unloading my kayak a breeze.

by:

Just what we needed to transport our kayaks! The pic shows how perfectly they fit! Super easy to connect to hitch. Great product at a great price. Thanks for the fast shipping too!

by:

Love being able to take our big kayaks with us. How ever we got a blue ox tow bar from you. You didn’t catch that it was the wrong one for my maverick Blew out 2 bars in 9 months. Blue ox didn’t catch it till second one broke. On the right track now

Works very well transporting 2 pungo kayaks, easy to assemble, extremely durable, great price on etrailer. Shipping fast, arrived 1 day early. Would be 5stars but kit only comes with 1 hitch pin. Doesn't say anywhere on website, FAQs, or specs that only 1 is included. If I had known 2 weren't included I woulda have ordered at same time.

Purchased Big Bed Junior Tailgate Extender for my 2000 Escalade. Planning on hauling 12' lumber this summer to build a storage barn for my son. Support T ends up right at 11' from the back of the folded down vehicle seats, so it's perfect for 12' lumber. Would be nice if you had a split support piece that could be bolted on anywhere between the vehicle and the end of the 4' extension, so that another T upright could be attached. That way you could support shorter materials such as 10' pipe, trim, or lumber. Now it appears that I'll have to start with a 12' piece and then strap the shorter materials to it. Overall a very nice unit and reasonably priced. Am happy with the purchase.

Great product. Worked as described.

by:

The unit was made in China. The welds are poor and the long part of the two was misaligned when welded, not at 90 degrees. The misalignment causes the cross bar to sit at an 10 to 15 degree angle from normal in the horizontal or vertical mounting position. I weigh around 225 pounds and stood on the unit at the longest point, it creaked a little but it held my weight. Although it is rated for 350 pounds, I would be cautious if it is loaded to the max. It is easy to install, and stores in a minimum amount of space. I will use it to support 2 kayaks while most of the weight of the kayaks will be in the bed of the truck. It should have a light kit available for purchase.

Products are still doing great.

by:

This product arrived on schedule and in prefect condition. The construction looks to be high quality, and the price was very competitive. I have attached it to my pickup truck receiver hitch, and everything fits. I haven't tried yet to carry the canoe, so I can't speak yet about how it works under load and driving conditions. Once I have a chance to use it I will try to get back into this review and add something about how it works. From what I have seen so far, I think it will do exactly what I hoped it would.

Since first posting a review, I have used the cargoe carrier to carry my canoe to an area lake, including driving on the highway. It worked very well. No problems. I would recommend this product without reservation.

by:

I bought this product to carry a canoe in the over-head position on my Tacoma. The fit in the receiver was good and the wobble was minimal. The welds all look good, everything is straight and the 90's are true. I especially liked the added brace at the 90 degree joint on the main piece. The long tube on the main piece is double-walled for added strength. This extender is equal to or better than anything I've found online.

I like the truck rack and it works well. I wish there was an option to add a bike rack to the base frame. Then Id have the best of both worlds: a canoe carrier and a 2 bike rack with the same hardware. Seems that someone with your expertise could invent that combination.

by:

Just came today. Tried it out on my Jeep Gladiator and fits nicely. Extends my load area to 9 feet. Will be very handy for carrying long pieces of wood. Should be able to carry my 2 16' kayaks.

I have a Jeep Gladiator. It has a small bed and the extender is great for carrying items that stick out well beyond the bed. Ive used it to carry lumber and drywall up to 16 feet long. I also have a pair of 17 foot kayaks that I intend to use it with. Its a whole lot easier to load 65 pound kayaks in the bed with the extension rather than get more equipment to make overhead racks.

by:

Box destroyed during shipping. Pin location needs to be set back farther to allow more of it to go into the receiver. One poor weld on the T bar. Design nice, reflector nice. Should come with at least one pin for the top T bar.

by:

Works great!

by:

I like the product, but feel that the tube steel doesn't insert far enough in the hitch opening when the holes line up. I'm tempted to drill new holes to be able to set in more. It would be stronger that way.

by:

I found the Bed Extender to be substantially built. I used it to haul 2 kayaks before I decided on a cap. It did the job, with one nagging issue. The straight extender was reasonably tight in the receiver and presented no problem. when I put the vertical T on the extender I found there was a substantial amount of play in the fit, and it allows the t bar to wobble terribly. I had to run ratchet straps to the truck tie downs in order to keep it from swaying side to side. Ok from short distance to get lumber etc., but not good for long distance 300-500 miles with 2 kayaks on the extender.

by:

This is perfect for securely transporting longer items in my truck.

This experience has been a mixed bag. I’ll break it down.

The order:
Etrailer had exactly what I needed in stock. And when I found the same product locally for a lower price, they immediately honored their low-price pledge. They’ve been responsive throughout. 5 stars.

The product:
The product is sturdy, easy to install, and fits the description exactly. I wish it were a bit less wobbly, but I don’t think it will be a problem. Also, be aware that you will need to purchase a pin to connect the load extender to your vehicle hitch. The pin they include is only for connecting the extender arm and the t bar. 4 stars.

The shipping:
They don’t wrap, reinforce, or otherwise protect the product *at all.* Both of my pieces were sticking through the box when it was left on my doorstep, and there are numerous scratches through the coating and into the bare metal. But the product were at least shipped promptly and arrived on time. 2 stars.
