Let me preface that I haven’t tried this in the wild yet so this is a review of my first impressions and perceived quality. I needed a spare tire for my SxS and thought the hitch would be the best option for what I have going on. I looked at all the other options, including the cheapos on Amazon but there were enough reviews about the tire mount snapping off on the freeway etc. that I didn’t want to chance it. I liked that this came with all the hardware and the hardware seems to be of good quality. It came packaged well, no scratches on the metal. It's hefty and I don’t think quality is going to be an issue. My one qualm, and it’s a nitpicky one, but still it bugs me, is putting a crappy sticker on a quality product. It was wrinkled and I actually tore it just moving around and the fact I could peel it right off after it was in the sun for a few minutes let me know it wasn’t going to last long (I should thank them for making it so easy to remove I guess) note to all brands, if you want your name on the product, make it look good and make it last. I attached some photos, full disclaimer, I did modify the mount, I wanted it closer to the machine and didn’t want it interfering with exit angles. I cut 4 inches off of the bottom tube and redrilled some new holes, hit it with some black primer+paint and the pictures are the final result. My spare is a 12-inch rim and it didn’t fit perfectly, especially because my machine, a ZfMoto ZForce 800, has 4/110 lug spacing so square, the triangle configuration was a no go and the top of the mount isn’t flush with the back of the rim. I did put some rubber mounting tape to minimize rattle and scratching but I think it will work for my purposes. The least of my worries is that this thing will break. It’s not going to, I feel confident about that.

This was exactly what we needed. It is very well-made and it sits nicely into the hitch with absolutely no wobble. The only reason I gave it four stars was because of the difficulty in aligning the bolts to attach the spare tire. They are free floating so they can be setup for a variety of tires. But this makes it very difficult to align the bolts and try to tighten at the same time. I solved this by making a paper template of the holes from my spare tire. Then I bought 3 jam nuts and 3 washers to secure the bolts into position before lifting the tire in place. Now that the bolts are secured in the right alignment it will be easy to remove and replace the tire in the future. It would be a very simple thing to add these instructions and supplies to the kit.

Solid material and product. My only issues are with the hardware that attaches the tire. If you only added one more nut to each lug, you could lock down the lugs before trying to mount a tire on them. Otherwise these will continually move around and make it very difficult to mount the tire. I had to purchase new carriage bolts, lock washers and multiple nuts to lock the bolts to a pattern that fits my tire. I couldn't imagine doing that on a busy highway without the studs locked in place.
Order was waiting on parts for a few weeks but I was kept well informed by the order team at etrailer. Since we have a tear drop trailer, this bent tire mount works great, just be prepared to rework the bolt system.

My RV wheel fit perfectly on the carrier and mounted without issue on the RV. I am satisfied with carrier.

Original order was lost . No fault of etrailer. Customer service at etrailer is top notch. Had replacement at my house within 24 hours of realizing there was a problem. Once again five star customer service

Perfect fit and all hardware was included. Shipment arrived on schedule and installation took all of 5 minutes. This is a well made spare tire holder,no more having to crawl underneath my 5th wheel to access my spare tire.

Well made and easy to install. I replaced bolts with 9/16 bolts with lug nuts that fit my vehicle.

Appears to be well made and quite sturdy. East to install and it came with all of the needed parts to make it work. The hardest part was putting the spare tire on the carrier and that is just because it was awkward, no fault of the carrier.

Good quality and heavy duty. First delivery was when I was out of town and the carrier was sent back to etrailer. I called customer service and they resent it with no extra shipping charge. Thanks again for the great service! I’ll definitely use them again!

above average because spanner does not fit lug bolts and large open wrench fits nothing

Exactly what I need but a few minor things which reduces it to between 4 and 5 stars. The retainers do NOT hold the bolts in place so they slide around while installing the tire. Quite frustrating. I used a lock washer and nut to hold them in place after adjusting to fit my tire. The multi-tool is pretty useless. Overall quite pleased with this purchase.

Just what I was looking for, a spare tire rack with a little extra room behind the tire for Gas cans.

Good product, came with bolts and nuts. Some don't.

Extra parts made the install a piece of cake. made all part the experience easy, including install/product review video.

The spare tire mount that came with our motorhome was not strong enough to securely hold the heavy spare tire. etrailer recommended the Mount-n- Lock HiLo Hitch receiver and the etrailer Hitch Mounted Spare Carrier and the combination worked out very nice for us. My husband and I are in our mid 70's and we were to do the instillation ourselves with the help the inclosed directions and some online videos. The hardest part was lifting the heavy spare tire onto the carrier.

etrailer could have done better on their description of this item. They do not address locking this item to your receiver. I ordered the 5/8" lock, which fits every standard hole on all the receivers I have seen. But, the hole on this item will accept only the 1/2" lock. now, I have to have a machine shop make the holes bigger, this is less hassle than trying to return my 5/8" lock for a 1/2" lock. Then I ordered the lock for the wheel and I saw the note about keyed alike. I mistakenly thought that the wheel lock and the receiver lock would be keyed alike for $[XX]. I was wrong, but etrailer should have noticed that I did NOT order any items that could be keyed alike and should have deleted that from my order or at least sent me an email to clarify my error. My rating is based on the fact that the holes for the lock should be larger to fit the more common hole size on most receivers or at least make that fact known in their video. they even have pictures showing a receiver lock on this item, another opportunity to say to use a 1/2" diameter lock.

Use it on my square drop camper for the spare tire and it works perfect.

My heavy duty pick up truck tire only 2 of the bolts will match the lug nuts. The tilt to the angle of the head makes it so it pushes in to the back of my vehicle. Needs to be more straight-up-and-down with the bigger tires.

I have used the tire mount for a year now. Even though the super duty bolt pattern will only let two bolts hold it to the mount, it has stayed secure.

I purchased a used class c motorhome with no spare tire setup. It was an easy installation onto the hitch, but very difficult putting the heavy tire on afterwards. I probably should have put the tire on first before placing on the hitch. Almost no movement or shaking, it’s very secure.

I was excited about this item. But after the install i tried to open my hatch back and found that it doesnt clear the tire carrier. Its an inch to far in. Im sure anyone that ordered this item would have the same problem. Its obvious that the carrier was never modified to correct this issue. It looks great but its useless as it is. I actually have to remove the entire carrier in order to open my rear door.

Depending on how far under the bumper the hitch receiver is, the carrier may or may not extend far enough to be able to open the rear hatch. On this spare tire carrier the hole closest to the upright bar measures 3.75 inches from the center of the hole to the upright. The furthest hole from the upright bar measure 6.25 inches from the center to the upright. You can use a part like part # Y02483 that will swing away from vehicle in order to give clearance to open the hatch.

I was very happy with the item. It's solid, well welded, all the tools I need plus the bolts and nuts included. I am especially pleased with the extra support piece that sits to support the upright tube that holds the tire and horizonal tubes that connects to the hitch. This fits my off-road small camper. I don't rock crawl, but I do go off road on all my road trips.

Very sturdy. Spare tire now accessible at rear of camper. Tightens down beautifully with attachments provided -no movement of rack and tire after installation. My only suggestion would be some method to hold the bolts in place while trying to place the tire on rack. The small retaining washers are worthless. I won’t take the tire off unless needed. It will be easier to remove the rack and tire as one piece for storage or to access the rear storage door when I’m at a campsite.

This worked great for adding a spare tire for our new teardrop trailer. I like the fact that the bolt provided holds the jack nice and tight in the bitch receiver. Well made product and great customer service from Paula! Thanks!

This is what I needed to make room in my trailer for more cargo.

Great product. One question do you have locking devices for the etrailer unit into the trailer 2" square holder and lug nut locks as well

We do! Part # e98892 is an example of a lug nut lock we carry, and part # e98880 is a hitch pin lock that should work with your spare tire carrier.
