Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

So far so good, should last for years. No degradation that I know of, happy with product.

by:

So far based on visual inspection and install I am super pleased with these springs. I have not gotten to tow with them yet but I’m sure they will not disappoint. I had to get them to increase the clearance between the axle and Frame of my car trailer due to me upsizing to a 6000lb 3” diameter axle. I purchased 2 at first because I was not sure this would work for what I was trying to do but once they were finally delivered I installed that night and ordered 2 more for the other axle.

by:

Incredibly knowledgeable of my situation because I had no idea what I needed! Very personable, immediate response deliveries fantastic

by:

I haven't installed them yet, but the product looks correct. However the packaging was a bit disappointing, all 4 leaf springs were seemingly dumped into a square box, although there was wrapping paper, they were not individually wrapped, this allowed them to rub against each other and chip the paint.

The box must have needed to be taped in transit, as the leaf springs appeared to have been bulging out the sides. I would have expected a rectangular box that would have fit these items better.

by:

Junk don’t buy then! They don’t last 1000 miles before braking and bending. Old springs where 10yrs old will 100k miles on them. The are total junk and they don’t have a warranty so you will be out all your money when this crap brakes!!!!

by:

I have a 2021 Grand Design 303 RLS whose left side weighs approximately 1000 pounds more than the right due to kitchen slide out and provisions loaded. Left side sits approx 1" lower, even with Sumos added. Camper came with 2600# springs, the e94SR was depicted as a direct replacement for the Dexter 072-097-02. It is not. Dexter spring is approx. 3/4" shorter in length and 2 1/4" shorter in height. The e94SR will upset camper geometry and change axle alignment which will scrub tires. It also won't install without longer U-bolts, which I don't remember mentioned. I need a spring of identical geometry to current spring, but with 3000# capacity to balance out the left side of camper.

by:

This is second set and first broke after only a few hundred miles. They blamed me stating I didn’t install it right but that is a lame reason for the springs to break! One failed and caused the other to twist so if this happened again then there is no way it is my fault as I had them installed at Rv shop. I watched them torch the hell out of the bolts XXX# plus as that’s was highest torch wrench would go.

by:

They made my trailer a lot more stable and able to handle a heavier load. Very easy to install and I really like the grease zerks to extend the life of the springs and shackles.

by:

Boxes where torn up and taped but all good , got one side on and really like how they lifted the trailer and work nice , next is the brakes , Thanks

by:

We upgraded t heavier spring capacity to go full time these springs have held up great through some very rough roads across the US

by:

Springs were promptly shipped and look great.

by:

great service an good parts

by:

Box arrived looking like it had been thrown off of a truck, it was destroyed . The lippert control panel that was thrown in with the heavy axle springs was damaged. Will not ever buy from this company again

Marc, it is suggested that you go up to 6k springs using the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles # e94SR. These springs have the same 26" measurement, have 1 3/4" wide leaves, and a 3k spring capacity.

Thank you so much for all off the information! All of the things you found mean you need the 33" Wheelbase MORryde Rubber Equalizers for Tandem Axle Trailers # MR87ZR. Since your current leaf springs are 14+ years old that would explain why your wheelbase is measuring a little wider. Over time leaf springs will wear out and extend a little so 14 years will definitely do what you're seeing. To replace your leaf springs the closest we have to what you're looking for is our 6-Leaf Double...

Since your axles are rated for 6,000 lbs. you will want to use 6,000 lb. leaf springs. We have a few options for 6,000 lbs., the correct one will depend on the length of your current springs (measured eye to eye). I have included those options below. You will want to get the leaf springs that match the length of your current springs. 25-1/8" Long - 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles # e47SR 25-1/4" Long - 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles # e34SR 26"...

We can tell you how to determine the correct replacement 6,000 lb leaf springs for your 5th wheel trailer, though don't have a way of knowing specifically what is on any one trailer. It's pretty simple though, as all you have to do is measure the length from center-to-center of the spring eyes to get the right fit. Keep in mind that springs elongate and flatten a bit over time, so you can go with ones that are a bit shorter than your measurement. For example, if you get a measurement of...

MORryde does have a suspension upgrade kit that I highly recommend. It comes with 1/2" thick shackles, along with wet bolts and bronze bushings. You will want to choose a kit based on the length of your current shackles. For 2-1/4" you need the # MR46ZR and for 3-1/8" the # MR76ZR. For replacement leaf springs you will need to know your axle capacity along with your spring eye to spring eye measurement. Your current leaf springs will be slightly elongated since they flatten over time so...

  • Lift Kit for Trailer with Tandem 5,200 lb Axles
The easiest way to gain two inches of lift would be with the Correct Track lift kit part # RR23QX which will give it a lift of 2-1/4 inches. Just going with a taller equalizer would not give you the lift you need. This kit does work with double eye springs. To pick out replacement springs I would need to know the length of your current springs. If the spring is 25-1/4 inch long you would want the part # e34SR. Or if 26 inches long part # e94SR.

  • Correct Replacement for 26-1/2 Long Leaf Spring
It's not uncommon for new trailer leaf springs to measure shorter than the old leaf springs they are replacing. The reason for this is that leaf springs stretch as they age. Therefore, I do think the 26" long leaf spring options we offer will work for you. In order to find the right one you just need to find your axle capacity; part # e77SR for 2,000 lb, part # e22YR for 4,000 lb, or part # e94SR for 6,000 lb. For new u-bolts, we have the 2" Square Trailer U-Bolt part # SP01-160.

Hi Wes, Yep, if you'd like you can definitely go with the 6,000 lb capacity, 26" long 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles # e94SR. It's not going to hurt anything, though the ride will be a bit stiffer compared to the 4,500 lb # e27SR leaf springs. If you're okay with that though, and like the added robustness of the 6k springs, you most certainly can do that.
