If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Double-Eye Diagram Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

  • Converting 3,500 lb Torsion Axle to Spring Leaf Axle on Boat Trailer
Hey Sam; thanks for the question and yes it is possible to go from a 3,500 lb torsion axle to a spring leaf axle on your boat trailer. You'll need to have new hangers welded on, as well as get leaf springs and, of course, the axle itself. For the hanger kit you can go with the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs - 3-1/4" Front, 1-1/4" Rear # APS4 which gives you 5 inches of distance between the center of the axle and the trailer frame. For 3,500 lb leaf springs you can...

  • Determining The Correct Replacement Leaf Springs For A 2021 Keystone Passport Grand Touring TT
You could potentially replace your leaf springs with a larger capacity spring but will need to match the length of your current leaf springs to avoid having to remove and reinstall the hangers and rest of the suspension system, which is a giant hassle and a lot more costly than just replacing the springs. If you have double-eye leaf springs you'll need to measure from the center of one eyelet to the center of the other. If you have slipper springs then you'll need to measure from the...

  • Info Needed to Pick Out Leaf Spring for Single Axle Trailer
Hey Brian, we don't have any springs that are the ideal length based on what you listed but do you happen to know what the axle capacity is on the trailer? That would be a good place to start to come up with best option but you will most likely need to move some of the hangers.

  • Replacing Slipper Springs Incorrectly Installed on 18' Boat Trailer With Double Eye Leaf Springs
Based on your images it does appear your trailer was built to have double eye springs rather than a slipper spring. For this you will need to measure your current mounts from bolt hole center to bolt hole center. We have the 3,500LB leaf springs which will provide you with enough capacity. We have them in a 23-1/8" # e59SR, 25-1/8" # e68SR or 27" # e97SR length. You will want to select the spring length slightly larger than your mounting bolt pattern. • Picking Out Replacement Leaf Spring for Montana High Country with 5,200 lb Axles
I don't have a way to look up what you would need but if you measure your current springs we can help point you in the right direction. We have 6k axle springs that will work great but we don't have any 5,200 lb options. So for a 26 long spring you'd want the part # e94SR, for 25-1/4 inch you'd want the part # e34SR, or 25-1/8 inch # e47SR.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Wesco Boat Trailer
For a 3,500 lb trailer axle leaf spring I would recommend the galvanized part # e68SR which is 25-1/8 inches long. Galvanized steel holds up a lot better to rust than standard steel and while this is a little shorter than what you have now worn out springs tend to flatten out and get longer over time. For a 2 inch square u-bolt kit then you'd want the part # CE23103 and you'd be set. To pick out an axle you would need to know the hub face to hub face dimension as well as the spring seat...

  • Should 4,000 lb Leaf Springs be Used on Boat Trailer With 3,000 lb GVWR
I do not recommend going with 4,000 lb leaf springs on your boat trailer with a GVWR a touch less than 3,000 lbs. It will make the ride bouncier than need be, but a 3,500 lb spring should do well, assuming when your boat is on the capacity is somewhat close to the 3k GVWR. To find the right length leaf spring you just want to measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes; leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you should go with ones that measure a bit...

  • What is Most Common Leaf Spring Length for 3,500 and 5,200 lb Trailer Axles
If you are picking out springs for a fabbed up trailer I would go with the more common leaf spring lengths as that will make picking out replacements in future a little easier. For 3,500 lb axles the most common length would be 25-1/8 inches like the # e68SR. In the 5,200 to 6k range the 25-1/4 inch length is the most common like the part # e34SR.

With that said, the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/8 inch Long # e68SR will definitely work as a replacement for you.
