Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

2013 Subaru Outback Wagon

Perfect fit for the Subaru Outback 2013. The instructions are a bit sparse, but this is the same as the Curt Hitch:so all the videos there work for this as well!
Quick tips:
1) The cut out in the fascia needs to be much deeper than 4.5". We had to unfit and fit the bumper 5 times trying to get it as close as possible - something close to 6". Furthermore, the instructions say it should be off center the center push pin tab, but in fact, it should be dead center!
2) You will need deep sockets (along with socket extension) to get to the bolts on the back. The bolts stick out quite a bit so it's not possible with normal sockets. We couldn't find a 14mm, so we opted for a 9/16th inch instead and that worked like a charm!
3) Plastic trim pry/removal tool is most essential.

Have not used the hitch yet, will post a review when I use it the first time.

After a year and a few tows, its been working really well! I cant say how I know, but the emergency chain hooks are really strong Highly recommend this hitch.

I ordered the trailer for my 2011 Subaru Outback and it was straight forward to install and works great. I put the car on some ramps on the back to make it easier to install. The instruction video was perfect and walked me through each step. Thank you for a great product.

2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Fast two-day delivery. I installed one very similar to this hitch receiver on my 2020 Subaru a few years back, so I knew the installation would be somewhat difficult. The 2016 Subaru Outback installation video was excellent and more detailed than the 2017 video. The hidden design is great, and definitely worth it. I now have a hitch receiver on each car, so if we are both on the go, we don't have to think about which car to leave for the other to hitch on the bike rack.

by:

Haven't actually used the hitch yet but the quality seems very good and the instructions were adequate to get the job done. Getting the bumper cover back on was the hardest part of the job. Impact driver helps a lot with removing the bumper bolts, along with PB Blaster. Took 2 hours start to finish and the cut on the bumper cover was minimal. Very happy I went with this one over the ones that require removing exhaust components and drilling into the unibody.

2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Installing the hitch was more involved than I thought it would be. But, the installation video on the etrailer website was clear and super helpful.Took me about two hours start to finish. make sure you’re looking at the bumper panel the right way when you cut the notch for the recieve (whiops).

The first hitch wasn't welded correctly and didn't fit the vehicle. The replacement worked perfectly. Excellent customer service got the new hitch to me and they paid for a return shipping label.

2014 Subaru Outback Wagon

Installation went very well on my 2014 Outback! Only thing I would mention is that the cutout for the hitch is dead center on the bumper, which other reviewers have mentioned as well. A 4" wide by 6" deep cutout did the trick for me.

Subaru Outback Wagon

This hitch for my Subaru Outback is constructed very well the holes lined up great the paint is perfect everything about wit spit on highly recommend this hitch. My wife and I installed this on June 21 took around 3hours we took our time the directions were perfect we cleaned everything behind the bumper when we took it off the install was very easy and the notching of the bumper I was worried but it ended up being easiest part just took a few extra minutes to make it look perfect. If your looking for a hitch for your Outback get it you won’t be disappointed at all I promise Thank you to etrailer for selling such a great product!

Already installed directions were easy to fallow hitch fit perfectly thanks

This receiver hitch is great, I had it professionally installed because I didnt want to take a chance on my wifes car, it works great and is a very sturdy hitch

by:

The e-trailer hitch is solidly built and my mechanic had no issues installing it. The item was well packed and it arrived within a week of when it was ordered. Customer service was excellent as well!

Subaru

Easy to install and very sturdy. The hardest part is getting the bumper cover back on the Subaru. It uses the existing hardware, so nothing extra is needed.

by:
2010 Subaru Outback Wagon

Perfect fit for my 2010 Subaru Outback. Over all between the instructions and videos the install went smoothly never had any @%$#&% slip out. Great product.

by:
2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

Top quality hitch that was very easy to install. I liked that a video about installing on my specific vehicle was available. My install easy.

by:
2019 Subaru Outback Wagon

Exactly as described. Install was very straightforward. I watched the video at least 10 times before starting. It took about 1:45 and I had no issues. The most tedious part was getting all the fasteners reinstalled. I did cut the notch deeper after reading the reviews. Thanks to all for the tips.

by:
2012 Subaru Outback Wagon

The hardest part about installing this hitch was removing the factory 1-1/4” hitch! Bolted up without issue.

Make sure to buy plastic connectors for the bumper cover… all of mine shattered when I removed it!

by:
2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

Shipped quickly and install was relatively easy, took maybe an hour and a half! Pro tip: take pictures of the bolts and plastic fasteners before you start removing the bumper, probably would’ve saved me a little more time putting it all back together. Highly recommend this hitch, and I look forward to many years of utility out of it!

by:
2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

Easy to install with the video. Great price for a great hitch.

by:

I haven’t installed it yet, but WOW!!! Etrailer definitely knows how to ship heavy items in boxes… Heavy stapled cardboard box with the hitch pinned in by a stapled cardboard divider. Everything arrived in great condition. I am confident I won’t have any problems getting this hitch installed…

by:

My order was processed promptly and delivered within three days of when I placed it. The hitch is in great shape. Very good service and information from etrailer!

by:
2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

Hitch came quicker than originally anticipated. It was protected well for shipment. Looks very nice with the matte black paint. Looks like very good quality and all welds look very clean and smooth. Hopefully the installation will go nice and smooth! Videos on etrailer web site are very helpful showing the installation. Thanks etrailer!

by:

It was a couple three hours of work, partially because I'm a notoriously bad direction follower. The toughest part was getting all those plastic pop outs back in their holes and a couple of runs at cutting the proper notch from the bottom of the bumper fascia. All in all the completed hitch looks like it belongs there.

Web page was so easy to use and product suggested fit perfectly. Great web page, great customer service and quality products. A combo worth sticking with.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2019 Subaru Outback with Bike Rack
There are really two main types of trailer hitches for a 2019 Subaru Outback, visible like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98847 and hidden like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e42TR. The visible hitch means you can see the cross tube under the bumper and the hidden means you can't. That said, there is a benefit to the visible as you don't have to pull the bumper off so it's much easier to install. If you're handy, the hidden option is what I recommend since you have...

  • Installation Difficulty of etrailer Trailer Hitch on 2019 Subaru Outback
Thanks for the nice words, and on a scale of 1-10, the installation difficulty on your 2019 Subaru Outback is rated a 10 for the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e42TR. This is somewhat subjective, of course, and we have it as a higher rating basically because you have to remove and reinstall the bumper cover and bumper beam, and any time there is a hitch where a bumper removal is required, the difficulty scale is raised. That said, there isn't anything about the install that it requires...

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2018 Subaru Outback
The best hitch for your 2018 Subaru Outback is going to be the etrailer Hitch item # e42TR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 400 lbs maximum tongue weight so you will have plenty of capacity for a bike rack. I really like the etrailer hitch because of its hidden design. The crosstube will install behind the bumper leaving only the 2" receiver visible. This not only looks better but it also helps...

  • Will EcoHitch or Curt Hitch Have Better Clearance for 2012 Subaru Outback
The information I have says the # 306-X7162 has a ground clearance measurement of 10-1/2". The Curt # C13410 has approximately 12" to 12-1/2" of clearance when measured to the bottom of the receiver. I'm not 100% sure how accurate the EcoHitch information is since we haven't measured it ourselves. Based on the installation and where the receiver position any difference in ground clearance appears to be negligible. The main difference between these two hitches is going to be the price....

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2011 Subaru Outback
That sounds pretty sketchy. Never heard of a conversion kit with bolts that will make a hitch fit a car it's not designed for. The hitch you were looking at Item # 306-X7267 only fits the 2015 - 2018 Subaru Outback so using different sized bolts isn't going to help when the holes don't line up. If this isn't what you have and would like to send me a part number so I can verify it'll fit you can either email me directly or post it in the comment box below. For a similar style hitch that...

  • Is There a Receiver Like the etrailer # e42TR With Additional Steel Connecting The Receiver to Tube?
We do have the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7601 which uses more steel to connect the crossbar to the end of the receiver on your 2017 Subaru Outback. This receiver is also made in the USA and comes with a limited lifetime warranty like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e42TR.

  • Parts Needed To Tow a Small Travel Trailer With Electric Brakes Behind a 2014 Subaru Outback
It appears you have it figured out on your parts. My only alteration on the parts would be using the Curt Easy Mount Bracket # C58000 to attach 7-Way # ETBC7 rather than the Mounting Plate # 18136. This is due to having the hidden cross tube on etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e42TR and the Curt Bracket # C58000 will attach to the end of the receiver to hold the 7-way. Here is the list of parts I recommend with the other bracket. etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e42TR T-One Vehicle...

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2019 Subaru Outback For Carrying Electric Scooter
So for a hitch on your 2019 Subaru Outback to carry your electric scooter, what you want is one with as much tongue weight as possible (tongue weight being the most weight the scooter and carrier can weigh when installed in the hitch). Good bumper clearance is also important, as is ground clearance, and the best possible combination for that is the following hitch: - etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e42TR The # e42TR hitch fits your '19 Outback and has 600 lbs of tongue weight capacity,...

  • Is the Flint Hill Goods Wheelchair Carrier Compatible w/ a 2017 Subaru Outback?
Yes, they are if your 2017 Subaru Outback has a 2" hitch installed like item # e42TR. The Flint Hill Goods 30" x 50" Wheelchair Carrier item # FHG77ZR requires your vehicle to have a 2" receiver. It looks like the carrier weighs 80 lbs and your Permobil M3 weighs just below 400 lbs so you'll need a hitch with a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs. The etrailer Hitch item # e42TR is custom fit for your 2017 Subaru Outback and has a 600 lbs maximum tongue weight. I really like this hitch because...

  • Hitch Cargo Carrier and Cargo Bag Recommendation for a 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon
Thanks for reaching out, Tony! I recommend going with the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # e98874 because it has both folding and tilting features to make it easier get into the back of your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon. Then for a bag, I really like the CargoSmart Cargo Bag # CS34FR since it's water resistant and comes with an easy strap system for securing the bag to the carrier. • Which etrailer Hitch Fits 2012 and 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon
Hey Edward, so the etrailer hitch part # e25TR that you referenced only fits the 2024 Subaru Outback of the two vehicles you mentioned since vehicles change quite a bit over years and hitch fits only last for a few years. For the 2012 you'd want the part # e42TR instead. I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.
