Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

The install is closer to 90 minutes and you will need a second person to hold it up while putting the screws in. I am eating it 3 stars because for some reason the tolerance between the muffler and the hitch is very tight and the muffler will occasionally rattle against the hitch and produce an audible and annoying rattling sound.

Jack, we do have a FAQ that can help in eliminating the hitch rattle. Please see it below.

This is the right hitch for my 2008 Honda CR-V but the left side bracket is slightly bent either from manufacturing or shipping (that side bracket had torn through box). You can see the passenger side bracket is straight but the driver side one is not in these photos. I couldn't line up the holes no matter what I did so I will have to return this one for another one that is straight.

A week ago etrailer told me how to fix the bent arm. The side arms are softer than they look. Once I did that it went on easily. Good hitch but poor packaging = 4 stars.

Easy install holds the bike rack it was intended for well. This is the 2nd hitch I’ve ordered both were delivered in good condition and had all the correct hardware. All in all a good purchase.

Absolutely NOT a 40 minute job. Closer to 2 hours. If you are putting this on a CRV that's parked outside, rustbelt, or more than about 5 years old, you will encounter SUUUPER rusty bolt holes. You will need a tap, oil, and patience. It's very tedious work.

This will take you an eternity of fighting with a tap to clean out. This took at least an hour to clean the 4 bolt holes alone. You don't have great access to the holes, and if you don't have a tap and die set, it won't be easy to clean. These frame mount holes are rust pockets.

Second, the tow rating on this vehicle is 1500 lbs. There's precious little point in having a class 3 hitch when you'd be a fool to tow that much with this.

Far better option, despite having to enlarge the body mount holes, is the class 1 hitch part number C11555. That doesn't use these rusty frame mount holes. Not only is the C11555 hitch cheaper, it will be far easier to install on an older CRV that's been exposed to salt or water.

Hindsight being what it is, I immediately regretted purchasing this class III hitch after seeing how much work it would be to clean those threads out. I even looked prior to purchase and was deceived at how much rust was on the threads. It doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence in towing knowing this is bolted to an old frame like on my 2011.

You will need 2 people to easily install this, and it was nigh impossible to properly torque 1 of the four holes without fully removing the exhaust.

I undid three of the exhaust hangers, but on the AWD version of the CRV, there is a sway bar in the back that limits how far the exhaust can fall. None of the videos show an AWD version with the sway bar.

So I nipped up the bolts as best I could, but 1 of the 4 was nowhere near the 49 ft lbs needed, and there's nothing I can do about that. I was able to get maybe 30 ftlb on it, but I locktited the frame bolts.

Strongly consider getting C11555 hitch, which will be lighter, easier to install despite having to enlarge the hole slightly, and likely to work just as well.

Easy to install (with a second set of hands), fits flush and looks clean. Took a few bikes out with a new hitch rack on day 1, very happy with it so far.

by:

Installing the trailer was very easy using the video provided by etrailer.com. The video saved me time and effort since my 2010 CRV required the holes be tapped prior to installation. This warning was provided in the installation video. The product exceeds our expectation. We use it to pull a kayak trailer.

by:

It got here when expected, but the box was broken and parts of the trailer hitch are outside the box. I hope the small pieces are not missing. We won't know until my husband opens it (it's his b'day present). I am also hoping that the the parts that came out of the box are not scratched or damaged.

by:

The product looks great and will get it installed soon.
However, the package it came in was very poor for the weight of the unit. It was torn badly and when I picked it up. The level III hitch almost hit my foot. If it had would have surely broke it. So packaging was very poor.

by:

Well built hitch. Comes with install instructions that are clear and easy to understand. Easy install as advertised! I will buy from eTrailer again!

2011 Honda CR-V

Arrived quickly after purchasing and all the parts were in place. The installation was straightforward and the video helped. A two person job in my opinion. Hardest part was holding the hitch in the right place to get the screws in. Very sturdy and happy with the product! 2011 Honda CRV

One of the best companies for responsiveness, product quality, giving directions on how to install. I will be ordering from this company again.

Ashley was very helpful ordering my class3 hitch. She also reassured me that this hitch will fit without drilling. Awesome customer service! Thanks Ashley!

Great company beautiful hitch easy install and away we go thanks etrailer !!

by:

Easy to install and has held up well for my uses. More rust inside the receiver than I would like to see after a year.

by:
2011 Honda CR-V

Well made and fit perfectly. Video showing how to make your own tap was very helpful. Cleaning threads in weld nuts is by far the most time consuming part of the install. Make sure you are cleaning the correct weld nuts required for attachment! I cleaned 2 that were not needed. 2011 Honda C-RV

by:

Installation was was easy but you should do it with 2 people.

by:

Finally made time to put it on and after difficulties with the bolt holes on my vehicle being badly rusted I got it on. Looks great and feels very solid. Fairly easy install. I highly recommend spraying and cleaning out your connections ahead of time as mine were very corroded.

by:

Great product great price great service EZ install and wiring too ! Thanks again.

by:

you guys did a great job the packaging could be improved because the hitch broke through the cardboard box.

by:
2010 Honda CR-V

Easy to install, works great with my hitch-mounted bike rack.

by:

My 2011 CR-V only has 55K miles on it (2023), so the rubber for the exhaust hangers was still easily removed. This hitch, like at least 3 others I've installed from E-trailers, was perfectly aligned, all hardware I need was included, and simple to install. Needed a bit of help to initially lift it and get the bolts started, but very straight forward install.

Overall good experience with etrailer.com and with the install of this hitch. First the not-so good. Hitch arrived w/o mounting hardware and instructions. There was a tear in the box so its possible it fell out. etrailer responded the same day and sent out the hardware. The hitch itself did have some scratches on it, some down to the metal. I've done a few of these inexpensive hitches in the past and have found the powder coating doesn't hold up well if you live in the rust belt (New England) so prepare to wire brush it and coat it with Rustoleum once a season.

Now the good. Installation instructions were simple and easy to follow. All the holes lined up and the hardware was the proper size. The hitch is sturdy and is a perfect fit for my 2011 CRV.

I do have a couple of install tips. If you're not familiar with dropping the muffler it can be tricky. I had to look it up. Basically spray some soapy water on the mounts and work them off with your hands and a screwdriver. I was able to rest the muffler w/o having to support it. The nut threads on my car were rusted and I could not thread the bolts in. I picked up a tap on [online vendor] for $[XX] and tapped the threads on all 4 bolts to fix that problem.

  • Trailer Hitch Weight for a 2011 Honda CR-V
I'd be happy to help! All of the hitches for your 2011 Honda CR-V weigh relatively the same when it comes to the different classes, and while the Class I hitches definitely weight lighter I recommend using a Class III hitch since they have a 2" receiver and can handle a wider variety of accessories. Out of the hitches listed below I recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch # 75547 since it's a Class III hitch with a weight of about 27 lbs. Here are the rest of the hitches: Class I Draw-Tite -...

  • Is OEM or Aftermarket Hitch Better Quality for a 2011 Honda CR-V
Hey Judy, thanks for reaching out! The quality of OEM vs aftermarket hitches is usually pretty comparable. The pricing on what you're looking at seems to be okay, but what you're likely going to see is a pretty big price tag on the labor involved in the installation - that's how they really get you. An aftermarket hitch like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e39AR will save you a little on the hitch side of things, which you can then turn around and give to a local trusted shop to...

  • What if Bolt Holes Don't Line up With etrailer Hitch on 2008 Honda CR-V
You're right in that during the shipping process, trailer hitches will sometimes come "flexed" so the bolt holes won't completely line up, and that is something that can happen with any hitch, including the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e39AR for your CR-V. There are a number of remedies for this, and all require flexing it back into position. I have added a link below to a help article called "My Trailer Hitch Doesn't Fit" which has some really good options of things you can do if...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2011 Honda CR-V
Of course! I recommend using the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e39AR for your 2011 Honda CR-V because it's a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver plus it has the clean looking matte black finish. The 2" receiver means you have access to more accessories and the matte black finish looks cleaner and is more durable than the standard glossy black finish we see on all of the other hitches. Then for a bike rack I really like the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU84FR because it's compatible with a wide...

If you are just wanting a 2-bike carrier then I would look into Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # HLY94FR. This is a very versatile bike carrier that has adjustable cradles to attach onto the bike frames, thus making it compatible with many different styles of bikes including children's and women's bikes. It does not interfere with the wheels so it will also work with bikes that have fenders or baskets. This bike rack is also very lightweight at...

You said receiver and hitch, though that is one and the same, which is what I believe you were asking. Then if you were planning on doing some towing and needed a 4-way wiring harness the right fit for your '10 CR-V is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55106.

  • Best Hitch for a 2011 Honda CR-V
I pulled the manual for your 2011 Honda CRV. It says your vehicle tops out at 1,500 lbs for towing capacity so paying extra for a 4,500 lbs capacity hitch like item # 75547 doesn't make sense. Adding this high of a capacity hitch won't give you anymore than the 1,500 lbs your CRV is rated for. The best hitch for both value and ability is going to be the etrailer Hitch item # e39AR.
