Product DetailFront-Access Doors

We know you can't always fit all your travel gear inside your RV, that's why we built this enclosed, bumper-mounted cargo carrier. This beast is designed to hold everything from heavy generators to nasty, soiled clothes. Unlike other enclosed carriers, you won't have to struggle to lift items above your shoulders, then lower those items in through the top of the carrier. Instead, the front-access doors make loading and unloading easy. Just front-load your gear into the carrier, close the doors, then use the provided lock to secure it all. And, since this enclosed carrier keeps all your gear locked inside, you can make pit stops without worrying about anything getting stolen.

Use it as an enclosed carrier or an open carrier

Coupler lockLock to deter theft

Not every load is the same, but this enclosed carrier cage is built to handle all kinds, big or small, with or without straps. For larger loads like camping gear, sleeping bags, and coolers, you can pack everything in tight, filling the cage so there's no need to strap anything down. But if you don't need to fill the cage completely, just use some straps (sold separately) to keep your gear secure and prevent it from shifting around. Got something too tall for the cage? We've got you covered there too! Just use the provided hex key to remove the two retaining tabs from the back of the carrier, then lift off the top enclosure to turn it into an open cargo carrier. Once loaded, secure your gear with ratchet straps to ensure everything stays in place and nothing gets left behind on the road.

Video Transcript for How To Assemble the etrailer Cargo Carrier Cage

Hi, Jesse with etrailer. Today, we're going to be assembling the etrailer Cargo Carrier Cage. This cage is available in multiple kits that come with a cargo carrier that we've already verified fits well with the cage. However, if you already have an existing cargo carrier and are looking to add on a cage, just make sure that you have a 24x60 carrier and it has 20-millimeter square tubing on it. Either way, if you are assembling the entire kit or you already have your own cargo carrier, it's going to install essentially the same way. If you want to see how we assembled ours today, feel free to follow along.

Our first step of assembly today is taking everything out of the box and making sure that we have everything that's supposed to be included. So I'll go through everything here, starting with the two back panels, and then we have two gate sections. Then, we have our two side panels with the reflectors already on them, and our two top panels. Now, for our hardware, we have two retaining tabs, four connection bars, 26 bolts with 26 lock washers, two clevis pins, an Allen Key, and our coupler lock. Our first step will be building our back panels or our rear panels.

We'll have to connect the two to make them into one. We have two connection bars ready and four of the bolts with the lock washers slid onto them. So, we'll start with taking our connection bar, sliding it in to the hole, and then starting our bolts, we're going down into the bottom with the bolts. And this can stay loose for now, we'll tighten everything up when it's all together. Now, we'll repeat that process with the top one.

Slide your bar in and thread your bolt. Once that bolt's threaded, we can slide this connection bar and this connection bar into the other side. (bars clattering) These slid together into one. Just line up your hole and loosely thread on the bolts on the top and the bottom. Might fight you a little bit getting these lined up.

It's a good idea to just kind of squeeze them together. Get that bolt threaded in. (bolt scratching) Now, we'll tighten down all four of the bolts. Once we have all these pretty tight, we'll move on to assembling the two door panels, and those will assemble the same exact way. Nice thing about this included Allen key is it has the ball end on it, so you don't have to sit there and turn it and keep resetting it. You can just put it in this end, kind of cock it at an angle, and tighten it down all the way. Then, once you get to the point where you're trying to crank it down real tight, you can flip it over to the other side. Like I said, these assemble the same way. The only difference is you will have to lift this gate up out of your way to install the bolts and then again to tighten it down. It's a good idea, once you have the doors assembled, before we go and lift it and put it onto our cargo carrier, put your clevis pins into their holes. That way, when you're lifting it up into place, the doors aren't gonna come swinging open on you. (clevis pins clattering) With our cargo carrier already installed in the receiver, we're gonna just clip on our side panel for now. You'll see these tabs. That will be the bottom. (bar clanging) Then, you'll just wedge them in there, and those will stay there for now while we attach the other panels to it. Now, we have both the side panels on just clipped into place for now. We'll take our rear panel, which is going to be the panel closest to the vehicle. Get that into place. Just have to make sure that you're not pushing too hard where you're knocking those side panels off. So, I like to get one bolt started. These bolts are going in through the outside. There's a threaded nut welded onto the rear panel. Get that one started, then I'll get the top one started over here. Now, with those bolts holding everything into place, it'll be much easier to get our bottom bolts in. Now, it's time to install our retaining tab. These will attach to the rear panel and just kind of hold that in place using the angle on the bracket. Take that. We'll take some force to kind of push this down just to get everything lined up. So there's one here and then one on the other side. Now, with those two retaining tabs, we can tighten those down now, so I'll get those both tightened down, then we're ready for our next step. The gate panel installed the same way. The only difference is you have to slot it into these brackets here. So, just make sure you're centered with your cargo carrier and drop it down into place. Now, for our top panels, these will slide into place. The slotted ends go front and back. We'll set them on, and then we'll just have to line them up with these weld nuts. Both the top panel's in place, we're ready to get our bolts started. Just like everything else, you'll have to kind of work everything around to get it lined up right. Just get that threaded on, and then we will continue with the other three bolts. Once we are ready to tighten everything down, you'll see these holes here. You'll be able to slide the Allen wrench in, and that gives you the ability to tighten it down. (bolt clicking) Now, with everything tightened down, our last step will be to install our coupler lock if you choose to. So we'll just take our pin out that we installed earlier, set that inside, store it in a safe place in case you want to use it later. So, we'll just slide our lock in. (lock clattering) And then with the key installed, this should just thread right in. Now, with everything secure, that's gonna do it for the assembly of the etrailer Cargo Carrier Cage. My name's Jesse, and I hope this helped you out.
