Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

I was camping about 200 miles from home. It was our last day there and we were loading up. I noticed that the right-side front wheel was closer to the back wheel than it should have been. I crawled under the trailer and noticed a broken spring. The right side of the front axle shifted backwards about 4 inches and closed the gap between the front and rear axle. The original spring was no doubt cheap foreign steel. I ordered the above leaf spring from etrailer and of course cheap foreign steel, but this is the world we live in. I took a chance ordering it because my original equipment was 4 leaf's. All the other dimensions were very close. It actually worked out great. I only needed 1 but I bought 4 because I didn't want to do a half assed job. It is not a job for someone with minimum mechanical skills (you can really hurt yourself).

It is nice to know that if you need parts for your 2013 trailer, etrailer might just have it. For that

Got my package today, it was on time. Haven’t opened it up yet but as I went to pick it up seems like they just threw the package. There’s a big hole on the corner of the package when delivered and the leaf springs were sticking out. I’m sure no one stole anything from it as the U-bolts and hardware came in a different box next to it intact. But as for the leaf spring box, seems as if just thrown down and the leaf springs sticking out from it being dropped. I didn’t open it, I just picked it up from the delivery area.

I bought a pair of springs for my 5th wheel trailer as preventive maintenance. In 500 miles of travel they had flattened out. I order a new set from etrailer and changed them. I've had no issues with these springs from etrailer in the 10000 miles we've traveled since installation.

by:

My review of the actual product I ordered, 6K springs is one part. They are as advertised. Correct measurements, no surprises. The really impressive part is the service provided by etrailer. I placed the order on a Friday, early evening. It was on the road by Saturday early morning, and to my door Tuesday. This was the standard, free shipping mind you. Plus, I got updates on every step of the process, from the moment the order was received, until it was at my door. Top notch service. Strongly recommend doing business with them for any of your trailer needs.

  • Replacement Landing Gear and Equalizers for a 2008 Keystone Cougar 5th Wheel
Thanks for the pictures! Based on the weight of your 2008 Keystone Cougar 5th Wheel, you will want the item # LG-1 landing gear set. You are going to want to measure to be sure this is the right size for you. The two things you will want to measure will be the distance of the black outer tube of the jack and the distance between the frame clamps (this measurement can differ depending on where the weld stops are located). You'lll need to measure from the underside of top bracket to top of...

Adding the 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e34SR will only increase the height of your 2014 Grand Design Reflection 303 LS if your springs sit on top of the axle. The leaf thickness is 3/8" with an overall height of 1-7/8" so the difference will depend on what you have now compared to this five leaf spring. Since your axles are rated for 6,000 lbs. you will want to use 6,000 lb. leaf springs. We have a few options for 6,000 lbs., the correct one will depend on the length of your current springs (measured eye to eye). I have included those options below. The number of leaves won't make a huge difference, but fewer leaves can give you a slightly softer ride. So to replace your current 26 inch leaf springs, I recommend going with the 4-leaf option: - 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/8" Long # e47SR

These brakes are forward self adjusting like the Dexter you were looking at. For a cushioned equalizer I prefer the MORryde # MR27ZR. This will have slightly larger dimensions than your current equalizer but understand the shackles will take care of the width and the height does compress under load so it will be much closer to your vertical dimension....

The easiest way to gain two inches of lift would be with the Correct Track lift kit part # RR23QX which will give it a lift of 2-1/4 inches. Just going with a taller equalizer would not give you the lift you need. This kit does work with double eye springs. To pick out replacement springs I would need to know the length of your current springs. If the spring is 25-1/4 inch long you would want the part # e34SR. Or if 26 inches long part # e94SR.
